It's not about what he said in the past, it's what he says in the future

I know he's a hypocrite, but that press conference was pretty un -nerving. Hopefully, he learned something about himself...and others, and moving forward he'll be a better, more tolerant person.

I don;t care about other people's affairs. Its their personal business, but this didn't strike me as something sleazy. Where his marriage went wrong, who knows. Maybe it was his fault, maybe it was her fault, maybe it was their fault. Or just maybe it was no one's fault. Maybe it just ran its course. This notion that marriage has to be forever or its some kind of failure if anything less than happily-ever-after is kind of rediculous. People change, our lives change. There's a difference between a sleazy affair and falling in love with someone else. I think this was the latter.

I have much more respect for him after that press conference. It was nice to see some humanity for a change. Usually we get the same unctuous apology and simultaneous self-pat on the back. the same raise the family values banner high (even though i paid a hooker to change my diaper), the same stoney face wife standing there clinging to her perks. This was pretty real and honest.

He's fucked. Not so much because of the affair, but he took off while on duty. He can't recover from that politically. Personally, I wish him happiness...and I hope when the dust settles he can see the world in a better light.

Hmmm, something seems fishy to

I don't know anything about him, this is the first I've heard of him or read anything he's written....but something seems off. I always suspect anyone who paints in cartoonishly broad strokes that seem designed for a particular response. That's the feeling I got reading his piece. I get the same feeling from Anne Coulter. It all sounds more like show business than ideology.

I think conservatives are very suseptible because they tend to be dumb or uneducated or so rigid in thought that they want to be spoon fed what ever it is they want to hear. This guy, Coulter, to me they sound like P.T. Barnum conservatives. Its a cottage industry for them. Maybe they really are conservative, maybe not. Maybe they don't really have an ideology (my guess), and they just know the buttons to push and how to package the whole thing up for maximum effect and profit.

How much do you want to bet by the weekend the "dear friend"

will be anywhere a camera is nearby working the story like a pack mule. We'll find out just how "dear" a friend this is.

Mike Jones has already surfaced? I think he should just publish a list of politicians he HASN'T screwed. It would be much shorter.

When she surfaces, and she will very soon...

...I hope she's like Charo.

Although the gender non-specific "A dear friend" sounds suspect.

This can't come as a surprise to anyone. It was written all over his wife's face when she said he went away to "write." You could tell under the Stepford calm she was seething.

John McCain should be just about ready to go on Fox News and voice his disappointment.

"Instead, unbelievably, people seem to be listening to deranged neocons "

Who's listening to them except their cable news crowd and talk radio audience? And let's face it, Bravo probably does better with their various Housewives shows than the cable news shows.

I think the general public has pretty much tuned out the Republicans at this point. They're playing to their bloodthirsty, rancorous base and nothing more.

The President has struck the right tone throughout, he has a thorough understanding of the complicated US/Iranian dynamic and I highly doubt he's going to let Republican dinosaurs bully him.

If they want it they have to fight for it.

This could be make or break time for them. If they're willing to shed blood the Waffen SS (great analogy there, by the way) will crack. This country wasn't born out of civility and niceties, we had a fight on our hands for it.

If they have reslove the Supreme Leader may very well be run out on a rail. If the fold there won't be another opportunity for a long time.

cbeenthere

It was wondered whether she was "going soft" on choice when she said that. It blew over quickly, but that was the initial reaction.

re: marc22309

You didn't read my post, obviously. I don't think anyone's rights to choose should be restricted, including the doctor's.

My point was that abortion as an issue is being defined by two very extreme camps. The Pro Life movement has become psychotic in my opinion, but the Pro Choice movement seems bloodlessly disconnected from the ethics involved with this very complex issue. THe fact that they get angry when "ethics" is even brought up is telling. During the campaign when Hillary clinton said abortion should be legal, safe and rare (as did Obama) the Pro choice camp's attitude was somewhat frosty. some accusing her of waffeling.

If "We really wanted a girl this time" is your reason to abort, please, be my guest and do so. Just don't be shocked when most people find that reason pretty appalling.

The only discourse in this country now is two extremes shrieking at each other with the vast majority caught in the cross fire. Thats never beneficial to anyone. By the day, the Pro Life movement is becoming more and more frightening. The Pro Choice movement, epecially, now should be more reasoned. Read some of the posts on here. That's not the way to win people over to your cause.
