  • a disgrace

[Read the article: The decider says he hasn't decided]

Its amazing how his puffed up image as a macho cowboy has completely faded. Now he just seems impotent and ineffectual. His visit to Viet Nam was compared to Clinton's trip there in 2000. Clinton was surrounded by crowds, he debated politics with communists, he accompanied two sons searching for their father's remains. Hillary shopped in the markets and bought silk shirts and blouses. Her picture hang throughout one of the shops. The shop owners were waiting for Laura Bush to show up. She didn't. We were told the crowds responded warmly to the President. We're told they waved at his motorcade. Not quite the same as Bill Clinton's up close and personal approach, to say the least. One of the few public appearances Bush made even seemed vaguely insulting, he went to a church service at a formely Catholic church. The only thing he seemed to accomplish there was shove his religion in everyone's face.

Now he's back to deal with Iraq, a diaster of his own making. For all of his "Mission Accomplished" bravado these last 4 years, he now seems bored and uninvolved. It's like giving your two week noticce and just showing up for those last days before moving on. His presidency has been a complete and disatrous failure, and he doesn't even have the courage or decency to try and somehow correct the mess he made. What should he do about Iraq? "I don't know, I'll think about it." is his attitude. He make public appearances going to church services, appoint his Christian cronies to completely innappropriate posts and he'll leave his historic mess for the next president to clean up.

I've said it before, he was pleted with eggs on the way in and he'll be pelted with eggs on the way out.

I think in any culture in any region when you choose to tape a dildo to your arm and wave it around in front of a movie camera you should expect to live with the end product.

I think all of the people sueing should do a panel discussion on ali G's show. They can air their complaints there.

  • he sounds like...

...he should be in a padded cell next to the Joker, Two Face and the Mad Hatter.

It would be hilarious to see this psycho battle it out for the nomination against Rudy in his Marilyn drag and McCain trying to weasle out of his vast history of double talk. Let the circus begin.

  • The world is a little less cool now

[Read the article: Goodbye, Mr. Altman]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

There was no one else like him no matter how many tried and tried to imitate him. How is it possible to list my favorites? Even when he was off he always created a work of interest. among my personal favorites: McCabe & Mrs, Miller, Nashville, Buffalo Bill and the Indians (magnificent and vastly under-rated), A Wedding, The Caine Mutiny Courtmartial, 3 women, The Long Goodbye, Thieves Like Us...

Its sad to see him go, but I'm glad I was able to experience these great films when they were first released. I remember seeing Nashville back in 1975 and it was truly unlike anything that had been done before. Although a work very much of its time it still resonates 30 plus years later...and it still has one of the most profoundly affecting endings ever. You could feel the joy his work gave him.

We will miss you Mr. Altman.

  • the real problem

[Read the article: The Michael Richards apology]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I was kind of confused when I saw the Michael Richards clip in the comedy club. His appearance on David Letterman just confused me more. My initial responce to his comedy club antics was that he was not enraged. He seemed like he was doing Kramer. He would calm down and say things like, "These words, these words..." I have a feeling it was an attempted comedy bit gone hideously wrong. He appeared to be "on." If George Carlin or Chris Rock had done the same thing we would have "gotten" it. They're very talented and we would see the irony, much like Borat. I don't think Mr.Richards is a very talented comedian. His appearance on Letterman was just plain odd, as though Jerry Seinfeld made him do it. His remarks made no sence.

I'm not sure I believe Michael Richards is a racist, but that doesn't mean I don't think this incident illustrates a different problem. Ten years ago we had Andrew Dice Clay gaining fame with a non-stop torrent of obscenity. These days humor, more and more, seems to come in the form of ugly racism, anti-semitism, homophobia, bigotry. Its all wrapped in "irony." Some talented comics can make it work. Most just seem ugly and mean-spirited. Just watch any of the comedy specials on HBO (with white or black comedians). Rather than rush to brand Michael Richards as a racist, maybe its time for americans to take a good hard look at what they find funny.

This is the same warmed over junk that people rejected in the November elections.

...why am I not suprised that leech has attatched herself to this latest non-event. If Chris rock or George Carlin had done the same thing would anyone else have noticed...not to mention any of the comedians you see these days? Richards tried to be edgy and shocking and he flopped. He appologized, accept it or not...story over.

  • Why do I have a feeling...

  • Odd isn't it?

[Read the article: "Civil war," "new phase" or just stayin' the course?]

Clearly, the November elections were a strong message that the American people want a new policy direction in Iraq with the objective of bringing our people home sooner rather than later. How does the bush adminstration respond? Repackaged "stay the course" and "fight them there so we don't fight them here" nonsence. Sloganeering is all this administration is capable of. If the administration and the conservatives continue to stay their course they may be in for a real shock and awe come 2008.
