Original article: Bush's policy quagmire

"Benchmark" is that like "Roadmap"?

Yesterday I was reading accounts of George Bush's press conference. Last night I was able to actally see it for myself. In all the reporting one thing has not been mentioned: the President was aimless, befuddled, uncomfortable and seemed to be completely in-over-his-head. The only thing to come out of that queasy and impotent appearance was the nuvieling of "benchmark." Karl Rove and the PR hacks have simply substituted "stay the course" with "benchmark." Its the new meaningless catchphrase that has as much meaning or substance as cottoncandy. Remember "the roadmap"? I do. I remember George Bush and dick cheney and Colin Powell repeating endlessly "the roadmap", "the roadmap", "the roadmap." Do we even know what "the roadmap" was? It was a whole lotta nothing, just like benchmark.

There was something different yesterday, though. Bush seemed almost quietly paniced. "Benchmark" wasn't boomed or brandished like "the roadmap" and "stay the course." It seemed as though Bush himself knew he had stayed to long at the prom and it wasn't working this time.

But Bush says he has "thought long and hard about this"

He must be exhausted.

Thank you Condi

If ANY Republican tries to turn this into a last-ditch get out the vote issue...well the Democratics should immediately counter with an ad feature that clip of Dr. Condi referring to Mark Dybul's "mother-in-law."

The fag effect

George Bush is already making campaign appearances stressing the need to protect marriage from activist judges. The same sex issue will connect far more than Iraq with the people Republicans need to turn the tide in their favor. Many of these races are very close. This ruling in New Jersey could not have come at a worse moment, and personally, I think it will push to elections to secure both the House and Senate for the Republicans. I hate to say that, but gays right now are just below Osama on the hate-o-meter in this country. Maybe not in New York, or Chicago or San Francisco or LA, but out in the heartland this gives the Republicans their ace up the sleeve.

who cares?

At this point does anyone really care about the Saddam Hussein verdict? In fact there is the very real posibility of a surge in violence, rioting and mayhem spurred on by the verdict's announcment. That will look great 2 days before the election. I don't see it as a plus for the Republicans. More and more people have come to the comclusion that this whole Iraq misadventure was based on lies and has been one of the greatest foreign policy disasters of our history. Sending Saddam to the gallows when alot of people wish this war had never happened will most like not stir very many people.

what's worse?

Taking money from porn producers and adult broacasting companies or taking money from big oil companies hell-bent on keeping us dependant on middle east oil supplies to their own great profit?

Once again, this country shows its fanatical and frankly, downright creepy obbession with and fear of anything sexual. As for me, I'm far more afraid of the big oil companies and drug companies buying control of our government for their own greedy gain.

"John Waters calling for Kathrine Harris..."

I think she might end up with a very interesting career post-election. You know she's not going away.

Original article: Kerry's words, Bush's war

Dick Cheney never served in the military. Neither did Mehlman himself.

Let's be honest. Ken Mehlman COULDN'T serve if he wanted to...which I doubt very much he would.

In a perfect world, a day before the election Tammy Duckworth would take off one of her legs and smack Tony Snow right in his unctuous face with it. Living in chicago I'm not in Ms. Duckworth's suburban district, but I see her commercials. She does not exploit her injuries at all. Had a Republican in her situation been running I have a feeling things would have been far different.

She better worry about...

Obama. That's the real train heading straight for her.

The President disrespects the troops

When will President Bush applologize for smirking in his tuxedo while doing a skit about not finding any weapons of mass destruction? Why aren't news organizations showing that fottage over and over? John Kerry failed at trying to be glib at the President's expense. Bush, on the other hand, backed his "joke" up with video clips of himself looking under rugs, etc. He has no excuse.

If I lost someone in Iraq I would demand a public appology from him personally.

Maureen Dowd

I enjoy reading Maureen Dowd's columns, but everytime she appears on tv she acts like a bimbo. I can't for the life of me understand why she does that. Maybe Stewart and Colbert were simply reacting to her goofy behavior.

Original article: The antiwar GIs

However, what is truly frightening is the American public's acquiescence in the rampant militarism that is sweeping this great nation.

Bring back the draft and you'll see the rampant militarism fade mighty fast.

I don't give a FUCK what you think!

"I have always asserted that the homosexual community is not satisfied with being tolerated or just left alone. They want their lifestyle to be affirmed by those who refuse to do so. They want their activities to be more than accepted, they want them to be cherished by everyone. "My, what a wonderful ceremony. Aren't bob and Jack just the perfect couple. And Bob, what a lovely bride!". This will never happen on a widescale basis, but that does not stop the agitators."

I don't care what YOU or anyone else thinks of me. I do expect to be treated with the same respect as everyone else. The same respect that I give to others. If "in-your-face" means mentioning my partner or putting his picture on my desk the same way that anyone else would mention their spouce or person they're dating...then I'm god damn in your face.

Talk about wanting to be "cherished by everyone" I've been to more weddings, christenings, anniversaries, funerals, etc. that are all designed to require me to "cherish" some personal aspect of other people's live.

So FUCK YOU. How in your face is thar?
