"If you want to be a Democrat these days, you can be for almost anything, but victory in Iraq is not an option."
It really is amazing that the President continues to make these rediculous statements in the face of the thouroughly rotting situation in Iraq. Even more amazing is that he continues to make these statements while it is being widely reported a change in strategy in Iraq will most likely becoming after the November elections...a change that will acknowledge "victory" as defined by Mr. Bush is NOT an option.
While I'm being amazed I'd have to say Sen. Lieberman's camanding lead in the polls also leaves me in a state of amazement.
Maybe the dollar advantage, the fear-mongering and ugly smear tactics, the genius of Karl Rove and the foaming at the mouth Christains aren't enough this time. For years now the american people have been subjected to this. The borish bullying of the Republican party, the constant negative screeching of Limbaugh and his hideous ilk, the threats of the christain nazis has over the years lead the country down the path that has ended here. (the constitution frayed and soiled, a nation - despsite the tough talk - that can't defend itself against terrorists or natural disasters, a foreign policy that has not tarnished but trashed our standing in the world and an immoral and deadly war that is turning worse by the day).
You know, maybe people are just tired of it.
If elected as an independant Lieberman will switch parties. that's my guess. If the people of Connecticut want a Republican Senator they should vote for Mr. Lieberman because that is exactly what they will be getting. The Democrats should consider this race as a Senate seat lost.
I have no use for George Bush or anyone in his administration, but the spectacle of the President of the United States telling a glaring lie on national tv while our soldiers are being killed in an immoral war of his own delusional choice was absolutely pathetic. Watching Tony Snow trying to squirm his way around "stay the course" in every dishonest contortion he could muster made me want to wash my hands.
How anyone can honestly justify their support for these people is beyond me, but they do.
I would like to know how many troops we've lost and how many have been maimed between the first time Bush said "stay the course" to his pronouncement this week that he never ment "stay the course."
...to fit all of those dinosaurs. Are those gas bags even relevant anymore. When was the last time Rush Limbaugh has gotten any attention beyond his drug problems, hauling his limp dick off the the Dominican Republic and ridiculing a person suffering from Parkinson's? Sean Hannity is nothing these days but a bad wig. They appeal to a simple-minded group of fanatics (unfortunately there are still a number of them). They were a fad, and now they're like break-dancing: silly.
People wondered why Bush and Rove seemed gleefully confident. Well they expected their "stay the course" flip-flop to pull the rug out from under war critics two weeks before the election. It didn't flip, but it sure flopped. I think that damaged them big time. The press conference yesterday in Iraq with Gen Casey (obviously) lieing about conditions there made them look really bad. They planned this mutual masturbation session with conservative shills in a tent on the White House lawn, and it happens the same day Limbaugh cruelly attacks Michael J. Fox. It also makes it look like the Republicans only care about their narrow base. Everyone else is left out of the tent.
I think their time is up.
Our fearless (Mission Accomplished, "Bring it on!") leader is now pussy-whipped by Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki. Maliki is now setting the aganda? Our troops will be target practise as long as he deems neccessary?
The President will send more troops if General Casey needs them. How many, 50,000, 100,000? Where will they come from? Will there be a need for the draft to fuel this disaster with warm bodies until he can slink away and claim some faux victory? Is this the same Gen Casey who only this week (with shifty, darting eyes) said "Iraq is not awash in sectarian violence"?
After years of arrogance and contempt for anyone who dared question his policies and judgements concerning a disaster that has grown worse by the day and now he expects us to show him sympathy and understanding?
He should have "stayed the course." At least then he just seemed out of touch and delusional. In the last week he has exposed himself for what he really is: a petty, venal, dim-witted opportunist. Nothing more.

If the Republicans pull off an upset and retain both the House and Senate (and I'm inclined to believe they will) don't blame a grand conspiracy or rigged voting machines. blame the person next to you on the bus or at work or at school or at the gym, the store, on the street...
The sudden transformation we've seen from the President will hit its target. A possative ruling in New Jersey over same-sex mrraige will send hoards into the Republican column. Make no mistake, on November 8 scores of people who complained, raged and fumed will suddenly say in that whiney voice, "I voted for the Republican. We should give them a chance to straighten things out." I can't tell you how many times I heard THAT in 04.
