the hypocritical double standard
[Read the article: Open the closets on Capitol Hill]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]OUT THEM ALL. they are making and passing judgement on their fellow citizens in the most profound of ways. How anyone one who is gay can aligin themself with the Republican Party is an absolute mystery to me. Any politician who hides their identity for cowerdly, or worse, hypocritcal, reasons should be out. ANYONE running for office should be OUTED. Harsh? You bet. I grew up in a virulently conservative neighborhood on Chicago's southwest side. I wasn't swishy or effeminate, but I was different. Believe me, it wasn't easy. Everytime I walked out the door there were people waiting to shout things and threaten me. There wasn't a day in my life when I would EVER compromise my self dignity to hide shamefully in a closet.
These people seek PUBLIC lives that impact the private lives of others. That so many of them hide in their closets, lining their pockets and workin actively to harm those individuals exactly like them is horrendeous. OUT THEM ALL.

chickenhawks...even the straight ones
[Read the article: Open the closets on Capitol Hill]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"the issue of chicken hawks should be debated if only to either deny it's existance or make it clear what gay culture thinks about it."
Yes it should be discussed right alongside the issue of middle-aged and older men who continually sniff after teen-aged girls. I'm sure most gays are as put off by it as most staight people are. And seeing as how in our culture we are innundated everyday by relentless images of teenaged girls as sex objects, I feeling confident saying this problem is predominantly hetersexual.
Every discussion of the Foley scandal and a tremendous percentage of articles mention the Studds scandal in 1983. However, I find it odd that when mentioning Studds no one ever mentions the man standing next to him being reprimanded at the same time: Dan Crane, the Republican congressman who got caught having a relationship with a 17 year old FEMALE page.
It seems like there is an ugly double standard here, and once again gays are viciously demonized.
Remember it was Lotlita.

the whole picture
[Read the article: With the GOP in free fall, the White House hopes for safety in terrorism]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The Democrats need to present the whole picture. The disaster of Iraq and the misguided policy that caused it. The crumbling situation in Afganistan. The failure in preparing for and dealing with Katrina. The Tom Delay and Abramoff corruption problems. Warrentless spying and the general trashing of the constitution...and Mark foley as the poison cherry on top. It all adds up to a total failure of lies, corruption and ineffectiveness.
I don't give John Kerry great point on humor, but he came up with a line on Bill Maher's show that every Democrat should use to throw cold water on the terror issue: "If the Republicans couldn't protect us from Mark Foley then how will they protect us from terrorists?"

OUT ALL OF THEM
[Read the article: Scapegoating gay Republicans]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I don't even know where to start!
"Neither was fully out, if "out" entails an unequivocal public confirmation of one's orientation."
That means they want it both ways. Even Mark Foley himself wasn't the sad closet case that was originally presented. He's had a partner for years (a doctor, no less) that he actually brought to functions and junkets. These people are leeches sucking at the tit of everyone who paved, and is paving the way for gay rights.
"When [my boss] found out about me, we never had a direct conversation about it, but I knew his attitudes about it ... And I know that when he did find out, his exact quote was, 'Yeah, so what? He did a damn good job.'"
A damn good job of supporting th GOP's toxic and relentless gay-bashing?
"According to the two gay former GOP staffers interviewed by Salon, Trandahl and Fordham are not alone. There are other gay Republican staffers, and their default stance in the Bush era is a more relaxed version of the military's policy of "Don't ask, don't tell." Both staffers say homosexuality wasn't an issue for the members of Congress for whom they worked."
In other words, stay in your self-loathing closet and shut up about it. I would like to know the voting records of these staffers bosses and if they support the GOP's anti-gay platform.
I say out every last one of the fucking hypocrites. Then let's see how big that tent really is. And they should be shunned and despised by the gay community.

Enough with THIS bullshit!!
[Read the article: Scapegoating gay Republicans]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"An office-holder could certainly claim that was exactly what he was doing in employing someone he knew to be gay, but who was not living an openly gay lifestyle."
I've had it with the attitude that its ok if you're gay, but that "gay lifestyle"! oh no, not that!
I'm gay. I live the gay lifestyle which means, my family knows, my friends know, my co workers and employers know, my neighbors know, the straight people at my gym know. It doesn't mean I walk down the street in leather chaps or dressed like Rita Hayworth (if someone wants to, great for them).
If that's the dreaded "gay lifestyle" and rubbing people's nose in it, fine. Then I'll grab you by the back of the head and really rub your nose in it. It IS my life and I'm not about to hide in shame to empower bigots.

Foley is no pedophile, but to deny the link between gay men and young boys is to deny the history of homosexuality - in fact, NAMBLA exists to this very day...

if this isn't a wake up call nothing is
[Read the article: White House: It's "silly" to ask whether Bush was right on North Korea]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"You need to give presidents the benefit of the doubt when national security is involved."
Isn't that a huge reason for why we're in the mess we're in right now? The congress, the press and a large segment of the public have given this idiot and his ammoral adminstration the benefit of the doubt for too long. We're living with the consequences of that benefit.
