The true media

Its people like Glenn and Amy who keep the light burning and hope alive. Only inches separate the D's and R's in a spectrum that is miles long. I think I will vote Nader instead of Obama this time. I guess it won't matter much as I live in a blood red state.

Fighting back

Glenn is right. Just imagine how the Republicans would have gone after Obama if he was the one with the Keating 5 proble or if he was the one who cheated on his wife to go after moneybags. They would have shred Obama to pieces in a New York minute. They know how to go after the strength of their opponents and make it a liability -- just recall what they did to Kerry. Some 527 out there must hit McCain hard on his ethical lapses again and again till it becomes the talk of the MSM the same way Swift boat turned out to be.

Great article

Thank you Avi Steinberg! I read the whole article with great interest and not skim I like I do most other. The melancholy end is so telling. Indeed we all are screwed if McCain wins.

Thank you Glenn

For the first time in years we have the contours of a vigorous liberal/progressive media with journalists like Amy, Glen, Rachel, E.J. and others. There is one important difference between the L/P media and the conservative media -- L/P analysis is based on facts and the other side is based on twisting the facts. MSM just acts as an amplifier to the conservative media, too scared to be called liberal.

Glenn, your articles are precise and incisive, keep up the good work ....

PUMA says to Obama, "You are wrong, we are stupid"

Joan is right, Obama needs to polish his speaking style while on TV one-on-one. I saw Keith Olberman interview Obama last night and even after Keith supplied several soft ball questions Obama failed to land any punches on McCain. Don't keep saying Americans are not stupid, many are. Just look at the PUMA morons, they are ready to cut their nose to spite their face. What I don't understand is, if they are willing to vote for McCain, how come they supported Hillary in the first place. I suspect these PUMA morons are not really Hillary supporters, they are republicans trying to make trouble.

Take the fight to them, not enough to just fight back

Yes, Obama is starting to fight back, ever so slightly and a lot of people already seem to hope that will continue. But just fighting back is not enough. If all Obama is going to do is respond, even quickly, to the McCain/Palin sleeze attacks we will surely loose come November. Obama must take the fight to them. Expose their hypocrisy. Make fun of Plain wanting to study the mating habits of some fish. For the bridge before being against it. Lying liars and the lies they tell.

hear hear

It is a tragedy there are so few Glenns in the media. Only in the US there is so much obsession about the private life of politicians. What matters is their honesty in public life, their policy positions, and their ability to get his/her promises implemented. It is high time MSM comes out of its preoccupation with sleaze or sycophancy and learn a thing or two from soft media like The View or David Letterman.

No pity for Sarah

Sarah did not even blink when the ticket was offered to her!! But Joan is right, McCain and his people made a cynical and sexist play and lost and now wants us to believe it was all Sarah's fault. They are doubling down their contempt for everyone else with this onslaught against Sarah, who by the way richly deserves everything that is coming her way from McCain camp.

Hope is in ICU

I would like to keep hope alive, but history of last two years or for that matter last 16 years is not very encouraging. Progressives must never let up. There is lot to be done. Nothing significant will get done if we start worshiping those in power.

Elections have consequences

The results are not in yet, already the wolves are out warning Obama he must abandon his supporters, he must follow the policies that were rejected -- heads I win, tails you lose.

We need to keep the so called blue-dog Democrats from pulling down Obama. For that we have to rely on Joan, Glenn et al. Keep them honest, keep these blue-dogs on a leach, alternative media is our only hope for that to happen.

David Sirota (1:55 pm EST)

Excellent post David....

What is the point of voting for Obama if the progressives who elected him are to be ignored? We must coalesce into a potent political force and keep Obama from being pulled too much to the right.

Voters have rejected center-right, get over it

Republicans have been painting Obama as a far-left socialist while McCain is main stream i.e. center-right. Therefore, the only conclusion they are entitled to if Obama wins is that the country has moved sharply to the left. So, they need to get over it and stop harping on the myth that the country is still center-right.

Keep hope alive (not really)

I guess the hope we were asked to keep was the hope of electing Democrats over Republicans. This is just the first disappointment, there are many more to come. A whole slew of closet and open neo-cons are getting ready to "serve" as Obama's national security team. Gitmo may be closed, but a whole new system is being devised to keep Gitmo alive here in the mainland. Iraq war may recede slowly, but will not go away. More civilians in Afganistan will have to get ready to die. If HRC becomes SOS she will get a chance to keep her promise to nuke Iran. Well, at least we will not have any partisan rancor. Keep hope alive, keep hope alive, and elect more Democrats to do the same old thing. Change has come in the form of who is going to do the same old thing.
