McCain Runs for Bush's Third Term? Yeah, pretty much.
[Read the article: John McCain runs for George Bush's third term]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Good title, and I think it fits. In fact, McCain might out-Bush himself. McCain has the ego and mindset for it.
In fact, McCain is so much like the status quo on steroids that it might keep him from winning the election. NO matter who the Democrat is.
But, war won the elections in 2002, 2004, and even 2006. The public is tired of Iraq, but if the administration gets us into a new war, maybe against Iran, there might be a rebirth of patriotism which will put McCain over the top in November. I can't believe it's not lurking someplace in White House strategy.

Geraldine Ferraro needs to continue to speak out.
[Read the article: Geraldine Ferraro still needs to apologize]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Geraldine Ferraro told the simple truth when she said Barack Obama is where he is because he is black. Here's why.
The black population is concentrated in some states more than others. It is also concentrated in the Democratic party. The black population, quite naturally, turned out in those states to support a black candidate in very great numbers. That is certainly why Obama carried South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and will almost certainly carry North Carolina and some other states in the upcoming primaries, He will also carry signigicantly black areas of Pennsylvania.
In addition, the democratic party is essentially liberal--on race and almost every other issue. Most white liberals have a guilt complex, it appears, when it comes to race: it is fine for black folks to take pride in their race, but white folks should not do so, and certainly not vote for anyone because they are white. A lot of those people want to vote for a black candidate wherever possible to demonstrate they are not prejudiced. In addition, since the mid 1980s, urban black "culture" (Rap and Hip-Hop music, urban street language, and fashion in particular) has been sold to the public, especially young folks, as worthy of emulation.
These factors, taken together, I think have accounted for a significant percentage of the white vote which has gone to Obama in the caucuses and primaries.
I hope Geraldine Ferraro will continue to speak out on this subject, and confront and refute the kind of comments in Mr. Conason's column.

If McCain wins, it won't be because of the Iraq War.
[Read the article: The Politico claims the Iraq war will help McCain]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]John McCain may or may not win the Presidency. And he may win despite his dogged determination to continue the fight in Baghdad.
People need to realize and remember the Surge was instituted to cut casualties and make our stay in Iraq more palatable to the american public. It was not meant to set the stage for anything beyond a symbolic reduction of troops prior to the 2008 elections. I think it has succeeded in making people think the situation is improved. I am happy that so far the public is not convinced we should stay there.
McCain might have more success in winning if his support for the war signifies determination, responsibility, a steady hand on the wheel, and sticking to his guns--no--matter--what to a public who rightly feels no politician can be trusted anymore.
Myself, I think the administration might play an Iran War as the trump to elect McCain. If the President gets us into a new war with exactly the right timing, the public will feel this is no time to change policies, and McCain the warhorse will be very attractive.

MCain worries Al Quada will attack?
[Read the article: McCain worries al-Qaida will attack to keep him out of office]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]McCain is hoping like hell Al Quaeda will do something during the campaign to stir up the flag-wavers and help get him elected.
I'm worried too. I think the 911 attacks helped the Republicans win so many elections since 2001 that the White House will start a new war in the hopes of electing McCain this year. A Tonkin Gulf sort of incident properly timed might rouse the public to accept an attack on Iran and elect McCain "the experienced pilot and prisoner of war" to lead the country in a new conflict.
Joking? Anything which can go wrong will go wrong.

McCain's "journey to the presidency"
[Read the article: "Journey to Freedom"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]John McCain's sojourn in Vietnam as a Prisoner of war was an ordeal for him and his family, and an american hero. But is that really any reason we should elect him President?
NO.

Obama's black nationalist and white lefty advisers
[Read the article: The crazy uncles in Obama's attic]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Another pro-Obama article, but at least we now know something more about Obama's past and his associates. Ayers and Dohrn are not just liberals. They are radicals, as apparently is the Rev. Wright. Same was true of Alinsky, who was not mention in the article. One of the radicals even visited Trotsky's home in Mexico. The only thing good about Trotsky is the hammer that killed him. Stalin wasn't all bad, he exterminated a lot of original bolsheviks.
I predict the Republicans will go easy on Obama, and if the past is any indication of the future, so will the mainstream media. So far, everyone who has told the truth has subsequently apologized and removed themselves from public view. Its like commie re-education camps, but then that is what The Cultural Revolution and political correctness of Chairman Mao was/is all about.
And if Obama is not exposed, and the exposure isn't accepted, he will be the next President.
One thing is pretty sure, though. If Obama doesn't make it this time, he never will be President. The paint on the image just won't last.

Puerto Rico
[Read the article: Getting ready for the long, long haul]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]What we really need to do in Puerto Rico is set the island free as an independent country. We do not need a fifty-first state located offshore in the Eastern Carribbean Sea. Especially one which will be the poorest state in the union and guarantee two more Liberal democratic U.S. Senators.
One of the real failings of the Republicans while they controlled both Houses of Congress and the White House was theirrefusal to grant independence to Puerto Rico. And this failure occurred in a White House which went to war ostensibly to spread world-wide freedom and democracy.
