Being a line worker with maybe a high school diploma was a pretty good deal for a long time. Best deal possible for them. Now faced with the prospect of losing their jobs they're terrified as well they should. But asking, really telling me, to pay for their healthcare when my benefits are being cut and the premiums rise 15% year after year and me with my stupid post graduate degrees is starting to sound unconscionable.

Sorry but life is hard get a helmet. I am tapped out. I am not in a position to pay for the healthcare costs for UAW workers who in between layoffs and cutbacks for the last 30 years until the cost of labor is now no more than 8% of the total manufacturing cost, both got a pretty good deal and should have seen the writing on the wall.

Personally, I don't care if they go broke and fail. And neither should you because this won't fix anything it will only delay the same outcome. Another 10 years of undereducated UAW workers making a great living off their high school diplomas while you and I dig a little deeper to pay for their union mandated healthcare costs. We should be so lucky.

But I pay NOW, right now, $9,000/year for 'healthcare' before service one is delivered to me. Then there's a copay, deductible, out of pocket. At best, at BEST, my PPO pays nearly 50 cents on the dollar. And now that my eldest has aged out - a 23 year old fitness freak has the option of paying $4800/year for 'health coverage'.

So if you want universal health care then make it truly universal and don't bother to politically cherry pick particular industries. Because if you do, the rest of us not so fortunate to work for companies going broke are going to lose ALL benefits.
