Cold feet?

I think Obama has been vague and lackadaisical toward health care reform because he doesn't won't to go down in flames with it. After all, Hillary Clinton, who got real specific way back when, suffered severe criticism, hostility and right wing rage which put the Clinton White House in a precarious position. There is a lot of resistance out there from people on Medicare who hold the attitude that they've got their insurance and nobody else matters. In fact, the people who have insurance from their employer definitely don't want reform for the same reason. The selfishness of Americans is appalling. There's nothing but the unknown in it for those lucky enough to have it, and they don't want it jeopardized by what they perceive will be governmental penny pinching and restrictions. Of course, they forget that insurance companies are the world's very worst penny pinchers!!!

Obama is a realist

Obama doesn't want to sacrifice his presidency over the public option...there is too much resistance out there with opposition from people having insurance from their employers as well as seniors on Medicare. Persuading selfish Americans to actually think about the long term and whether employers can continue providing insurance which goes up in large leaps each year is a task even Obama can't accomplish. This president sees the handwriting on the wall. He understands it would do no good to insist on the public option only to have the whole reform package go down in flames which is what I think would happen.

The media has reported every outrageous Republican lie as if it holds merit, over and over again. Repeat a lie enough and it lives in the mind of unthinking Americans...unfortunately, there are gazillions!

Not only un-American but un-Christian

Joan, you got him told!!! How the un-American right wing can look at themselves in the mirror is beyond me. Their condoning the use torture in interrogations, their desire for unbridled capitalism in which business is allowed to run the country into the ground, their lack of empathy for the poor, their shameless use of the lie, and their stance on the separation of church and state demonstrate just how un-American (even un-Christian) they actually are.

Egregious greed!

Yep, let's yank medical insurance from the Congress. Why should they have insurance when so many millions of Americans who work hard are not provided insurance by their employers. Greed and selfishness seems to pervade Republican thinking on most issues. As for me, I don't want to watch our society go downhill because Republican cultists who worship the dollar and who hate government don't want to spend a few dollars more on taxes.

Good tribute

What a perfect title for this article! Swayze had star power galore. He was both handsome and not-so-handsome at the same time and utterly likable. August and September have made me wary. Every time I sit down to the Internet, I worry that we will have lost someone else. Of course, that's life, but it is sad all the same.

Racism to some extent but mainly hatred of taxes

It is not a good idea to cry racism at every turn, and, yes, there is rampant racism aimed at Obama, particularly in the red states. However, I think many of the more strident attacks are being whipped up by Beck and Rush who have gotten rich off it. While no one should have expected Obama to turn the economy around overnight, many have grown tired of waiting for their personal fortunes to change. Hence, we are hearing more negatives.

The wingnuts, on the other hand, stay angry and loud, and while I believe that racism underlies much of their hatred, the majority of it seethes within all the time, regardless of color. They hate government...it's a knee jerk response because they don't want any constraints on making a living or doing as they please...though they want to tell us how to act even in our own bedrooms. They utterly despise taxes and that is their chief concern.

Regulations should have happened yesterday!

I don't understand why the White House waited so long to shoot for new banking regulations. Obviously, the time was ripe months ago after the meltdown and before the recovery began. Now, the right wing has staged something of a comeback with the health care debate (facilitated in great measure by the media). Geithner has not served this president well at all and perhaps that was his plan all along!

Texas sleaze!!!

What a sordid and seedy state of affairs in Texas. Even the civil area of law is compromised...the insurance companies have their way in the state. I suppose the CCA can't bring themselves to do what's right...it's just not in them.

A revolutionary proposal

How about showing average women (not pubescent teens) who have some meat on their bones? Why should we have super skinny and overly ample models? It would be so refreshing to see healthy looking women on the runway!

Entirely Revolting!

I'm for freedom of speech but Rush is pushing my tolerance to the breaking point. How can he be allowed to mouth off all this rot? There are people who have been fired for less and Rush keeps getting away with it. This comment was not even remotely funny...it's just crude, tasteless, and, of course, vicious.

Most of us don't speak toddler...perhaps his right-wing audience understands what he meant in his cryptic speculations about Hillary. Not only is he disgusting, his listeners must be the lowest of the low to find him entertaining. They seem to be very attracted to bathroom humor...the coarser it gets, the more they like it.
