  • Radio Talk Show Devotee

[Read the article: Salon Interview: Camille Paglia]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

A steady diet of Camille Paglia would skyrocket my blood pressure. I don't like anything about her...her cutthroat lacerations aimed at people under discussion offend me to distraction. Apparently, she has been listening so much to talk radio it has fouled her political vision. And her assessment of the Mark Foley scandal was completely driven by her own lifestyle choices. Unfortunately, she did not see the hypocritical aspects of the scandal. Why would Mr. Foley sidle up to the right wing who lurch away from gays, and why would he sponsor legislation aimed at pedophiles when he can't keep his mind off congressional pages? For her to castigate us for being appalled at the hypocrisy is incomprehensible. And what reasonable Democrat would find Bill Clinton's dalliance with Monica worse than the charade of Mark Foley! Pullease!!!

And poor Condi.....she did not receive proper training in Mideast politics. We should all want her to succeed because it is important to feminists. Condi's tenure in the world diplomatic arena was doomed to failure before she even took a step outside of America. She is a creature of the Bush Administration...they call the shots. Success is impossible with Bush at the helm...she does his bidding and it is insane. Period.

Every time Salon does an interview with this witch (pardon my name-calling) I go away gnashing my teeth. Some of her points may be good but she is so abrasive, all I can remember is dismay at her supercilious condemnation of anyone and everyone!!!

  • TV, the November Surprise!

[Read the article: Pew poll: GOP cuts Dems' lead]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The images on the the evening news of Bush prancing around the stage with fans hollering and screaming have closed the gap. For two days, or more, we see a smiling Bush and very little of Democrats at campaign events. This kind of thing has a subliminal effect on voters. I watch CBS evening news and dear Katie gave Bush free campaign advertising for two days straignt. It made me wonder if the GOP had paid off the CBS editors!

When the Kerry gaffe and Iraq verdict of Saddam are factored in, we get a Republican upsurge...I am furious with the media for the slighting of Democratic candidates, for not placing them in a more positive light along with Bush. I don't feel confident about winning the House and I certainly don't the Senate.

  • Noble Savage

[Read the article: Diary of a turkey killer]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Raising a turkey, befriending him and then eating him is not something I care to read about. I skimmed this article to see if the turkey was actually killed. I am very sorry I read it. I am not vegetarian and will have turkey but I don't care to read the gory details of how our noble savage writer dispatched her turkey. Perhaps Jeffrey Dahmer might enjoy such, but not me.

  • A Loose Cannon

[Read the article: The last neocon]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

McCain appears a loose cannon...on the one hand, he can be completely rational and then the next minute, he is spouting militaristic drivel. Such a person is untrustworthy, no matter how sincere he is, which is debatable.

If I thought that more troops would help Iraq, I suppose I would be for it. America is responsible for the chaos in that country and we bear some responsibility for helping it to stabilize. However, we have spent a great deal of time, money and lives there and it is getting worse. There are so many parallels with Vietnam in the Iraq debacle. When Pres. Johnson took a strong military stance in Vietnam, America believed that we could win the war. However, more and more lives were lost and more national treasure was wasted. After a sustained effort, it became obvious that there would be no winning in Vietnam. But despite our withdrawal, we managed to recover and prosper.

There are some differences between Iraq and Vietnam...mainly, we didn't seem hell bent on alienating the rest of the world as Bush has done. And we had a draft back then. Is McCain suggesting we reinstate the draft? He should be drawn out on this point and castigated for more pie-in-the-sky rhetoric unless he wants a draft. And again, would more troops do any good! I for one believe it would be throwing good money after bad. It is painfully clear that an outside party cannot straighten out Iraq...the Iraqi's must do it themselves...they will fight it out until another Saddam emerges and perhaps some semblance of order will be restored, or the country will split into several nations with several Saddams. Democratic principles will not unite Iraq...the people are segmented into fervent religious groups making it impossible to unite it through democratic processes. Probably only brute force can get the people to settle down. In fact, our withdrawal might even speed up stabilization. Whether it does or not, our presence there will serve only to stir things up.

And the most important thing is for Bush to shut his mouth!!! "Axis of evil" jargon inflames the whole world. His presidency has failed and the very least he can do is refrain from making the situation worse! I am so furious that this foolish man has placed our country in this maddening situation.

  • Personal Responsibility

[Read the article: So long, Paris]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The last I heard, people are responsible for their own behavior and while Paris is certainly scuzzy, Spears did whatever for her own reasons. The fact that we can't get away from the blight of Paris Hilton is in part due to the media continually feeding her insatiable need for attention, this article included.

  • Noxious Side Effect

[Read the article: "These people should be court-martialed"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The Christianizing of our military is one of the noxious side effects of the Bush regime. I hope Weinstein is able to be effective but I doubt it. We'll have to endure religious bigotry until Bush is out of office and then perhaps it will die down. It infuriates me that this nincompoop has had such an negative influence on our basic constitutional guarantees. Besides practically bankrupting our country with a senseless war and discarding the Geneva Conventions, he has befouled American principles in every respect.
