Original article: I'm so bored with O-B-A-M-A

Fickle is the media!

Obama has been the recipient of much snarky news coverage lately. Anytime McCain says something ugly about the Democrat, the media lap it up. In fact, most of the coverage over the last few weeks, including this article, have been negative toward him. In that respect, I think there has been too much coverage of Obama; however, McCain seems to be getting a great deal of coverage, especially his ugly suggestions that Obama is a celebrity. The media's love affair with Obama seems to have passed and I fear they are gearing up to give him a terrible time this fall after the conventions. I have always believed that the fascination with Obama was media driven and that his candidacy was made possible by the media because they believed him either to be the most exciting candidate because of his color or the one to be more easily vanquished by McCain. It is quite possible that all the ugly coverage of Hillary is going to be thrown at Obama now. What the media create, they can certainly tear down if they so desire. I wouldn't be a bit surprised!

This same poll showed that a majority viewed Obama's ads as positive and McCain's as negative. If that is the case, why aren't the media telling us about this finding? Obviously, they aren't reporting this because it would say something good about Obama and they are not about to do that.

The media and sex!

Democratic candidates seem to have a penchant for the ladies and Edwards is no different. Women throw themselves at these politicians and I suppose they find it difficult to resist. I'm torn between revulsion at Edwards for lying and the sanctimonious finger-pointing of the press which loves to jump on infidelity...any story involving sex. I was an Edwards backer until he endorsed Obama after Hillary had a big win and I am happy that I was already turned off the guy before this hit the fan.

Original article: Johnny, I hardly knew ye

Personality flaws come with the territory!

To know a politician is to know a smooth talker and myth builder. This is true for all of them. How can we be so deluded in this day and time as to expect perfection from anyone, let alone a politician. While I didn't buy the storybook marriage of Edwardses...he was simply too handsome and she, a little too pudgy for a fairy tale partnership, I did think he would have better sense than to cover up a silly affair which any intelligent person should know to avoid if he planned to run for president in 2008. However, this is a human story and foibles are intrinsic...on the other hand, the lying is what grates.

When are politicians going to learn to say to the press that affairs are their own personal business, neither denying nor affirming their existence. Personally, I think that Edwards should have never described himself as narcissistic. To stray once hardly falls in that category. A clear pattern of such behavior is another story, but there hasn't been any speculation about that, yet.

At any rate, I was turned off Edwards when he endorsed Obama after one of Hillary's big wins. It was a reiteration of the Richardson endorsement and was so obviously timed as to be laughable. That turned me off for all time...his affair is too typical to have influenced my opinion of him but the insanity of building a song and dance image of his marriage when such a skeleton lurked in the closet is downright Shakespearean in its personality flaw.

Liukin was impressive!

I, too, watched the women's gymnastic all-around hoping that Nastia Liukin would prevail. Her style is exquisite and I would like to see delicate artistry rewarded. While athleticism is very important, graceful execution should prevail over less artful performances of equal difficulty. It gets tricky when difficulty gets factored in but Liukin had both. She deserved the gold!

The cutting back and forth to swimming was irritating...I'm all for the American swimmers; however, the gymnastics is what attracts me to the Summer Olympics.

Poor and biased judging in gymnastics is discouraging!

The uneven-bars on Monday was a sham and for NBC not to comment about the unfairness and inadequacy of some of the scoring would leave me totally frustrated. I don't like NBC anymore than the next guy, but they were correct to point out the distorted and unfair judging going on in gymnastics! The vault scores also were outrageous. The Chinese athlete who fell on her knees certainly did not deserve the bronze!!!

Bolt should learn to respect his opponents!

Bolt's behavior out on the field when he turned back and slowed down to make fun of his opponents before the race was over was completely uncalled for, showed poor sportsmanship, and is very offensive. Celebrating when the race is over is perfectly okay but to mock opponents in a race is outrageous. I don't even like Bolt now though I do admit the man can run. Bolt needs to learn some manners.

Original article: Isn't she lovely?

I hope America was watching

I confess that I did not like Michelle but her speech last night made me very proud of her! The speech was well written but in particular it was well delivered. I hope that America watched it...the polls this morning are not showing any impact; however, it is premature to say she hasn't had a positive influence on this election with this speech. Michelle looked beautiful and the family scene was very compelling at the closing.

I wish the convention had not gotten off to such a slow, lifeless start...I'm afraid too many may have switched channels before the really good parts began. Nancy Pelosi's speech was awful...trite...poorly delivered, but above all, boring. None but die-hard Democrats would have suffered through without changing channels.

An unequivocal endorsement for Obama

I think Hillary's sendoff for Barrack Obama was fabulous on the whole with only a few minor complaints about the content. Hillary was sincere...she is an advocate for herself, her party's stated goals...and Obama. It was a gracious speech, an unequivocal endorsement for Obama.
