Democratic rebellion

The defeat of Lieberman can be viewed as a Democratic temper tantrum...the lefties and old-line Dem's have become more and more frustrated with politicians who sidle up to Bush and "collaborate" with the enemy. This is how we see Lieberman. He is disliked because he appears a traitor...his moralistic finger-pointing at Clinton brought this senator into focus and we didn't like his attitude. He could have easily kept his opinions less strident but he chose to condemn. This caused many of us who wouldn't have known who he was to actively dislike him. His sanctimonious rhetoric is mistrusted and his alignment with the Neocons has made him a target. I just don't like anything he stands for...why shouldn't Democrats express their disapproval of a politician by defeating him at the polls. Isn't that what Democracy is all about...electing a person who represents our point of view.

The claim that Democrats eat their own is dramatic and hyperbolic. Lieberman lost touch with his Democratic base---it's as simple as that.

Keep the show---bury the snacks

The first season of The Closer was fantastic, very creative. I still like the show but Kyra's penchant for sweets has gotten a little outsized. Too much reliance on her neurotic tendencies and not enough on her interviewing technique. This show should definitely not be nailed shut! It is one of the better new offerings.

Fairy Tales

I don't think religion is hard-wired because if some of us don't believe, then it is not hard-wired. Perhaps we are hard-wired to make sense of things and when we run up against something we can't understand, we chalk it up to God. But that only applies if we are intelligent...of course, there are profoundly retarded people who don't require answers, therefore, even the latter assertion flies out the window. Unfortunately, it is a human tendency to believe that if our answers give us solace, we must defend them to the death; otherwise, we must face the possibility that this is all there is and that is truly frightening to some of us. If we would consider that there is no meaning in life but what we make, then it is feared we would do all manner of heinous things because we would face no punishment after we died, never mind that if we do heinous things, somebody is going to get even. Chaos will ensue say the religious. What is really chaotic is actually the horrible things that the religious do in the name of their religion. I have come to consider that possibly the darkest aspect of the human psyche is the tendency to believe in a religion because we perpetrate such evil with these beliefs. Bin Laden probably truly thinks he is a good man.

I guess the point here is that religion has come to be used as a political tool by the various powers for their own ends. By the way, not all conservatives are religious and this group in power in this country strikes me as not very Christian at all because Jesus would certainly not be encouraging us to kill those terrible terrorists in Iraq who were never there in the first place until our dear leader stepped our feet into that country. Oh well, I am a rambling, furious agnostic who wishes the human species would begin doing a little logical thinking rather than have their cords pulled by the likes of George Bush.

Good, well-written article

I enjoyed this article very much because it allowed me to see into a world I have had the good fortune not to experience. I have to wonder if the swell of humanity doesn't contribute to a loss of appreciation of life. People begin to appear like bugs rather than people. We used to talk about the population explosion and keeping numbers down...now we have television shows on quintuplets and sextuplets. Violence is associated with over-crowding as well as socio-economic factors.

Democratic Bumbling

It is disheartening to see a passionate candidate languish because Democratic leadership wants to portray a moderate stance in order to attract swing voters. Democrats are chomping at the bits; they're impatient with centrist politicians who sound just like Republicans. The question here is whether the DNC is misreading the will of the people...is the clumsy windmill engineer really a lost cause or should a little effort be spent to groom him to be a winning politician on his own terms.

Original article: The Olbermann factor

The other half of America

I haven't been a follower of Keith Olbermann because I have largely given up watching or listening to broadcast news out of frustration...frustration at the protection of Bush and his policies I have witnessed coming from the mainstream news. The press helped Bush push us into the Iraq debacle; it helped get him get reelected with its intense coverage of the Swift Boaters, etc.,etc. The internet serves as my news source---I can control the noise a little better there.

It is reassuring to know that the media is becoming interested in the other half of America which clearly voted against Bush.

Bush and Cheney are scary...they blithely step all over the constitution to achieve their ends and they are wrong in their approach to terrorism---completely wrong. Their macho ways are disgusting, juvenile, and, yes, unAmerican. They have made more enemies for America rather than protect us. How the public can give Bush high marks for fighting terrorism is mind boggling!

Good for Olbermann...I'll tune into his commentary.
