So Hillary supporters are Republicans? This is unbelievable!

Not everyone shares your viewpoint...it's as simple as that.

I agree that disrespectful, supercilious attacks on Clinton supporters will not help Obama or convince us to back away from Hillary. It actually hardens our resolve and makes us feel less like embracing him.

Your personal attacks are insufferable. I am disgusted by this supercilious, vindictive retort and frankly am not impressed by it in the least. Offer your opinions all you want but it is unjustifiable to slap people around in a personal manner.

Your post is a personal attack all over again! Anybody who doesn't see things your way is a dumb ass. You said it yourself. This is exactly the kind of intolerance and disrespect that is going to hurt Obama's chances. Obama cannot win in November without Hillary supporters coming to his camp. It's that simple. So Obama supporters should learn to be halfway civil in their enthusiasm, especially toward other Democrats!!!

  • The demographics might be worse in the general election

[Read the article: "There's a pattern emerging here"]

Numbers speak for themselves and the numbers back up Hillary. As far as the argument that primary demographics do not portend what general election demographics might look like, I agree except that the picture may be even worse for Obama. There are real challenges for Obama to overcome and I'm not sure that he can. Obama was virtually unknown until 2004. He simply has not built up a strong rapport with Democrats because he has not been around long enough.

  • Uncle Fester - Numbers don't lie!

Here are some figures from CNN from statements by Hillary and before you discount them because Hillary offered them, the figures were common knowledge on election night.

"Exit polls from Tuesday's primaries in Indiana and North Carolina show Clinton won about 60 percent of the white vote in both states. That percentage is down from the Ohio primary on March 4, in which Clinton won upwards of 65 percent of the white vote. Meanwhile, Clinton garnered 63 percent of the white vote in Pennsylvania on April 22."

These numbers were reported on CBS and other sites on election night. You can discount them if you want to, but they are truthful!

I agree that the comments are polarizing but not any more so than calling Bill Clinton a racist by Obama supporters and playing the race card by the Obama campaign.

Your ugly, uncivil tone is outrageous. I suppose I must have struck a nerve for you to strike back like this. Some of Obama's worst enemies are his friends who attack, belittle, and personally offend other Democrats. Obviously, my figures scare you a little or you would use a more civil tone!

  • Demographics are facts!

[Read the article: Was Hillary channeling George Wallace?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Hillary spoke facts...numbers, demographics which are suggesting that whites working people have been increasingly voting for her. She is telling the truth just as polls on all the primaries have shown over and over again. Democrats can rant on and on about her...say she is a racist, whatever, but the polls are telling Democrats the facts even though Obama supporters are upset by the polls or believe that Hillary is making up the statistics even though she isn't.

I don't know where you are getting you stats but the ones I have read say his bounce was minimal as far as white working class voters go. Sixty percent went for Hillary in this latest round and that was down from sixty-five percent in Pennsylvania. I suppose the five percent drop is something but it is not a dramatic drop.

What is really at play now is the media reading last rites over Hillary. But the press has consistently been favorable to Obama. Yes, it did bring out Rev. Wright but that was only because it exploded on Youtube and the media could no longer suppress the story.

  • Respect and courtesy

[Read the article: Can Democrats learn to talk about race?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Respect and courtesy have been in short supply all over the web and particularly at Salon. I have been called stupid, a dumb ass, a Republican, a dork, and a racist right here on these pages. Actually it has been worse here than anywhere else. After being told that I am full of shit and deluded by several posters, I pondered whether to quit reading Salon and whether to cease commenting. I think the aim of some of these people is to run off dissenting opinion because perhaps it is threatening to hear other ideas. Rather than listen, weigh, and respond, many have decided to blast off with both barrels in personal attacks. In the end, I decided to hang around because even Salon's editor has been abused and had her job threatened for stating ideas that displease many Salon readers. However, I am still furious at the personal nature of the attacks against me, Hillary, other people who share my opinion, or anyone who dares say anything remotely complimentary to Hillary or skeptical about Obama.

I have always felt that Democrats are exceptional people... tolerant, inclusive, fair, and insightful. My opinion has been sharply challenged for the last few months and I don't know whether I will be able to go back to Camelot, so to speak. Perhaps that is as it should be but my eyes have been opened.

  • Race a huge factor in November

[Read the article: Racism on the trail]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Of course race is going to be a huge factor in this election. It is naive to believe that America all of a sudden has become color blind. As for Democratic racism, it is there but not as prominent as among Republicans. These Democrats, many of them silent on the subject, will vote for McCain. Amazing. Leave it to the Democrats to figure out a way to lose this election.
