Amen! I do wish the media would get back to covering serious issues, discussing them in terms of the candidate, and helping the voters make an informed decision. But what do we have instead? Chris Matthews in his rage against the Clintons pontificating on and on about this and that, railing about political correctness, and offending every thinking individual out there who would like some dignity in the process of political commentary. All the interrupting on this type of show is horrible to listen to. Around our house, the magic wand is immediately reached for and we go to the Animal Planet, Health Channel...anything to get away from all the noise.
I guess the fighting is to be expected in such a close contest, but it is important to come together when it is all over. Actually, I wish Edwards would win it and put the Democrats in territory which is not so risky! Obama and Clinton have their electability issues; it is frightening. Another four years of Republican governance is sickening to think about!
I can't believe that there are Democrats saying they can't vote for Hillary if she is the candidate. Of course, they should vote for her...Do we want McCain or Romney or any Republican in the White House again? They have dragged this country down so far, it is incredible. McCain insists that Iraq is absolutely necessary...Romney, too. It is so disheartening to see political rancor get in the way of good sense. Hillary is a Democrat...she is not perfect, nor his Obama!
No, I do not believe that a black candidate will be elected...not anytime soon.
There seems to be a tendency right now in mainstream news to blast Pres. Clinton for getting into the election business. This is absurd and a juvenile notion that candidates are not supposed to use their leverage whenever it is possible. How dare Bill Clinton campaign for his wife! This makes the playing field unfair and in her favor, they whimper.
It is important to note that perhaps there are many Americans who feel more comfortable about Hillary with Bill Clinton at her side. It is certainly not a detriment to me. Clinton proved himself to be a hard-working president, a good president despite the Lewinsky side show. Certainly, it is no drawback to have some intelligence back into the White House. After all, we have been without it for eight years.
It is unknown whether Obama truly represents something other than business as usual. I have my doubts. His lack of experience, plus his reluctance to really take a stand on things do not convince me that he is a better alternative to Hillary. Particularly, galling was the praise he gave Reagan...now that infuriated me and it is hard to make me trust him now.
I don't know why I get all caught up in the Clinton/Obama match-up. I have been and still am for Edwards who is more of a Democrat and who represents my point of view better than any other candidate.
Being an Edwards supporter, I feel very confident that I will vote for Hillary if Edwards drops out, not because I necessarily like her better than Obama, but because I think she stands a better chance to win in a general election. I do not believe that the racists in this country will allow a black man in office...every good ole boy and girl would show up at the polls to keep him out.
I was disappointed in this article. More Clinton bashing...let's have some objective perspective for a change on the subject of Bill Clinton.
Bill Clinton is an asset to Hillary's campaign. I just love the way he puts his political insight into words, but I am an Edwards enthusiast and will be voting for him.
It is a terrible truth, but race is still front and focus in this campaign and the media can be prime instigators in the phenomenon. However, with the all the racial prejudice out there (we are still up to our eyeballs in it), it is difficult not to mention it. And even if the media neglect to bring it up on some occasions, the commentors on the websites start the racial slurs which are often shocking.
This country is disappointing. With all our high-flying talk of democracy and equal chance, the rampant dislike of blacks, gays, and Hispanics is an underlying theme and becomes a big calling card for bigoted Republicans to garner support. It is all coded, of course, but there is no doubt about it. Usually, it is couched in terms of not paying taxes, taking welfare, wanting hand-outs, and closing our borders. However, the crowning slur involved Hurricane Katrina. After the Katrina disaster, there were a complaints amongst the right wingers that the people in New Orleans were unwilling to go back there to clean it up! Incredible!
With this kind of backdrop, I fear Obama doesn't stand a chance in a general election. It is possible that Hillary as a woman doesn't, either. In many ways, I am disappointed that Hillary and Obama did not sit out this election so that the Democrats could stand a better chance at the White House. As it is, I fear we are going to get another Republican because the Democrats again managed to wrest defeat out of the jaws of victory.
I am so sick of Bill Clinton bashing. The press blathers on and on about race and then blames Bill Clinton for it. I despise the media. I think they want another Republican in the White House and are doing everything in their power to stir up a racial divide among the Democrats, plus ensure an Obama nomination so that the Democrats will lose. I feel this way and I am not even for Hillary. I am an Edwards backer.
