Katie Couric's interview was structured to suit conservatives. The family values' theme was transparent and hypocritical on the part of Katie for the reasons stated in the article.
I don't know why CBS tries to pander to these conservatives by biasing their interview to please them. I suppose that because they are a distant third in the ratings, they feel they must act like Fox. Fox viewers, on the other hand, wouldn't watch CBS News for any reason...they want bias...they want reassurance from the press, and as long as any news organization tries to be non-biased, they are going to be accused of liberal bias. It is an epithet they throw at the press in knee-jerk fashion in order to manipulate news content when unpleasant facts come out about their favorite right-wingers and/or right wing initiatives.
It is interesting to get the perspective of Bud Cummins. If he is a bit gentle on the Administration, it understandable since we should not expect him to incur the wrath of a Republican machine which is all too willing to get even.
Bush, if he had any respect for the rule of law and no culpability in the firings, would have asked the Attorney General to resign immediately. He backs him...even insults our intelligence by contending that Gonzales will be successful in explaining his prevarications before the Senate.
This Administration has assaulted the American way in ways I would not have expected. I didn't think Bush would make a good president; I knew he would be conservative. However, the utter incompetence, the sinister ruthlessness, and patent corruption and cronyism has taken me by surprise. It is shocking... his entire tenure as president. No one is more ill-suited to lead this country!!!
Camille Paglia's presence on Salon, I suppose, is meant to be a foil to all the progressive writers on the site, but her twaddle reminds me more of Imus...offending for the sake of offending. I wish Salon would give her the boot for all her insults to our intelligence, our dearly-held values, and our core beliefs. Because I doubt her sincerity and because I feel she is simply writing for effect, I dismiss her points. She is playing a game with us and I don't like being the brunt of her joke.
Salon seeks to give us a range of subjects and I appreciate that, but I draw the line at being jerked around and manipulated by a fraud, like Camille Paglia.
I didn't want Imus fired because I am a softy and when people apologize profusely I am a sucker for it. With that said, I have to admit I never saw his show. One time I caught a snatch and immediately changed channels. I knew he wasn't for me. If I had seen his show, really knew what he was like, heard his outrageous utterances, I, too, might not be so forgiving.
Actually, this whole thing is very disturbing because Imus's defenders are so shockingly wrapped up in him. They, more than Imus, scare me for various reasons. To begin, the attacks on Sharpton and Jackson strike me as rank prejudice. Yes, these reverends have done some things that are not so nice, but they serve a very important function in the black community and only the most close-minded refuse to understand this. Secondly, the First Amendment arguments further infuriate me..."I can say whatever I want to and you have to take it because I have freedom of speech and if you don't like it, you can change channels." These are childish arguments which have been intelligently addressed here by others and by the author of this article. And the last but most important reason...I am offended by the unwillingness of Imus devotees to briefly step inside the shoes of another race, to see an issue from another's vantage point, or simply to have the honesty to admit that if someone called their daughter a whore, they, too, would want the SOB fired.
It really bothers me that racism is so alive and well!!
Gonzales's lack of memory obviously has occurred to protect George Bush. There is no way that anyone's memory short of Alzheimer's could be that bad when it comes to meetings in the White House.
Shades of Watergate? Without a doubt! Lost and deleted e-mails, "I don't recalls," taking the Fifth, all are lame and transparent ploys to hide the true facts and to keep attention off the president.
I suppose Bush is going to get away with his destructive shenanigans since he has only one more year in office, but he will not escape the judgment of history. His is a presidency of incompetence, blatant and profuse lying, disrespect for the rule of law, torture, domestic spying and, perhaps worst of all, imperialism. We will recover in time but Bush is going to leave lasting, negative consequences for us to grapple with for years to come.
This article borders on being sensational itself and a wee bit hypocritical. Perhaps it was meant to be a joke that Edwards was in the shampoo aisle, but actually it didn't come off that way. Instead it implies a purchase which hints at some kind of hair fixation.
Of all the candidates, Edwards is my first choice. He has run on unequivocal grounds and I like his platform. He suits me just fine...hair and all!!!
