  • Wounded but not dead

    [Read the article: Shipwrecked]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Don't count Bush out. The people in this country still do not see the bungling in this administration. In a Gallop poll today only 49% said that we shouldn't have gone into Iraq; that was down from 59% a month ago. Half of the American people are brain dead!

And all Bush has to do is snap his fingers and those moderate Republicans will be right back in Washington telling him how to get back on track.

As for Fitzgerald, I'm not counting him to indict Rove or Libby. Somehow these neocons lead a charmed life!

  • Bush's play acting

[Read the article: Libby takes the fall]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

We're going to see more feigned concern from Bush while his cohorts distort the importance of this disgrace on Fox, Limbaugh, etc...the entire right-wing propaganda machine. Of course, Bush has known for some time about Libby and Rove's efforts to destroy Joseph Wilson's credibility...but I'm not convinced he understood or now understands that their actions were illegal and reprehensible. He simply lacks the character, insight, and depth to comprehend the ramifications of such dissipated behavior...after all, he has built his career on it...he is a hypocrite to the core.

  • Republican Obfuscation

[Read the article: GOP senator: Wilson is to blame for Plame's outing]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Sen. Kit Bond's take on the Plame outing will characterize the Republican stance on this matter. The Republican machine is going to minimize and downplay Administration tactics to attack Wilson while Bush is going to look very serious and tell Americans that his White House is allowing the investigation to take its course. Bush is very good at sounding concerned while his minions do the dirty work.

  • Typical Halliburton

[Read the article: Gulf Coast slaves]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I am so sick of the name Halliburton! Katrina has become another way for this company to enrich itself with Cheney's blessing. It is a sad day when undocumented aliens are let go before being paid.

This country has lost its soul under the Bush Administration!

  • Access and corrosion

    [Read the article: Woodward's disgrace]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Bob Woodward, Judith Miller et al. partook of the power of access. Woodward sold his soul long ago when he began hobnobbing with all those powerful folks...traveling in such illustrious company can be corrosive to journalistic ethics as well as humility.

  • GOP recipe for deception

[Read the article: The rules of debate]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

While Bush lays on the sweet talk, Cheney skewers the prey with sophistry---the press reports, dutifully, word for word everything he mouths with absolutely no comment on the falsity or mindbending logic that went into making the claims--- and the public gets so hypnotized with the repetition their brains shut down.

  • American depression

[Read the article: America's tipping point]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Mr. Englehardt's article gives hope. But will Americans actually throw these rascals out in the 2006 elections? It is going to take a change in Congress for us to see the Bush agenda turned back. Republicans are stalwart on keeping tax cuts. They'll cut out any and every program before they'll give up those cuts and heaven forbid that any pork is shaved off!

What is just now dawning on the American people has been apparent to all who opposed the war from the very beginning...changing political ideas in the Middle East is extremely long term and will be met with the utmost resistance. Bush in all his arrogance thought he could waltz in there and do whatever. What scares Americans is the billions of dollars the war is costing and will continue to cost, and when one adds the billions that Katrina will require to rebuild, only the most fanciful can sit at ease in the maelstrom.

  • Miracle pills

[Read the article: Life: The disorder]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Sometimes these medications can work miracles on irritability and anxiety. Yes, their side effects can be unpleasant but the personality difference is worth the taking.

  • Jennifer

[Read the article: Our Jennifer fixation]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

They don't make a machine that measures how little I care!

  • Rap

[Read the article: Prayin' hard for better dayz]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

This is a fascinating article. I have refused to let rap into my world...absolutely hate the repetitive sound of it as it blares from cars with open windows...don't know, haven't even wanted to know, what it is saying---so, it was interesting to read about it from this perspective. Camille Peri has deftly opened a window into it without my having to listen to its drone. Thanks...now I am a little less ignorant.

  • Feigned tolerance

[Read the article: Jews and the Christian right: Is the honeymoon over?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Conservative Christians have their own goals...they seek to flood this society with their beliefs and eliminate anything with which they do not agree. It would take only a slight shift in leadership for their so-called tolerance of other faiths to turn into a crusade of "onward Christian soldiers."

Any alliance with them is purely a ploy to get their way and to get enough power to tell everybody what to do at every level!

Tolerance to them means believing as they do. After all, in many of these denominations, only Christians will go to heaven...this is a core belief which is truly frightening!

  • Iraq Plan

[Read the article: The only way out]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

This makes too much sense for us to try. No, we've gotta be macho, prove we're in charge, stay the course, by God.....America doesn't cut and run...besides Bush and Company never had any intention of leaving Iraq when they set out on this debacle!

  • Egregious Futures

[Read the article: Betting on bird flu]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

There is something repugnant about betting on bird flu and terrorism—I don’t care how much money there is in it. Greed being what it is, futures market on terrorism would drastically increase the likelihood of it happening!

  • Snake

    [Read the article: Jolting Joe]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

When I have seen Lieberman throwing kisses to Bush, my blood has boiled and I have not forgotten how quickly he turned on Clinton during his Monica troubles. I don't like the man in any way and I am not sure he is to be trusted within the party. As far as backing someone else, Weicker seems much more sincere, reflecting precisely my views on Iraq and the Democratic senators who gave their okay to the idiotic invasion. But...actually actively sending money to someone other than a Democrat, even Lieberman, could be destructive to party efforts to attract a broad base. I am content with letting the chips fall where they may; however, I would never give to Lieberman's campaign!
