  • Obama the NIMBY attitude

[Read the article: Update: Michelle Obama disagrees with me]

I don't tend to speak for other people, I know my place as a white woman. But in all the years that I have been involved in community and neighborhood politics I have never seen or heard such an openly anti community, in this case anti African American community, words as Mr. Obama's spoken by an advocate or public official for a community.

Below is the most despicable part of the Rezko mess, even after Rezko's projects went under Obama defended Rezko and used the NIMBY attitude that low income housing projects fail because "urban crime, demographic changes and social factors". Clarifications the reasons are not complex Mr. Obama, it's when the developer and his consultants (yes, you as the attorney structure a bad project). Folks, all that Obama is saying is that it was the tenants and the neighborhood's fault. Who were the tenants? Very low income African Americans. Now, you tell me how the misquoted fairy tale words of Bill are equal to this?

Folks, I have heard this kind of language from the most horrid of anti affordable housing, anti low income and yes racist opponents of affordable housing, but never from a public official or community organizer.

    Original from Sun Times article.

Q: Many Rezmar government-financed housing deals have ended up in legal battles, including foreclosure. Several Rezmar buildings are now boarded up, and others are in need of major repairs. Taxpayers have lost millions of dollars on these deals. While Senator Obama has called Mr. Rezko a legal client, campaign contributor and a friend, there's ample evidence that Mr. Rezko was a slum landlord. Was the senator aware then that Mr. Rezko's projects were deeply mired in physical and financial problems? Does the senator think it is fair to characterize Mr. Rezko as a slum landlord?

A: Housing partnerships in which low-income-housing tax credits are syndicated frequently struggle financially. The reasons for the problems such partnerships struggle are complex but frequently include urban crime, demographic changes and social factors outside the control of any developer or owner. Senator Obama was not otherwise aware of financial and physical problems attributable to misconduct by Mr. Rezko

Someone who used the community for political gain is not tranformative, not an idealist and not an agent of change. It's that simple. MLK would not have uttered these words.

C'mon face it you are tired of us cause we had: better music, better inspirational voices, a better war, better clothes (you keep brining them back), cheaper pot and sex with no consequences. So lets see you guys came up with "retro", "vintage" and "hippster". If you are tired of us, invent your own generation and stop copying us. Oh I forgot, you have text messages and My Space...yippeee. Get off it we coddled you, pampered you, over priveleged you and now you whine.

  • Why I refuse the Obama fanatics

If you don't support Obama we will send you to the reeducation camps. Hypocrisy and idealism make a dangerous cocktail: demagogues. True believers are not my cup of tea. All idols are false. If you want to serve somebody go to a church and leave politics to the politicians. They are a soiled and ugly bunch and that is what is so much fun about them. I never want a politician to transcend me or to be my change agent. I want him to be a politician. So, lighten up everyone. Just because we get an opinion on the internet, does not mean we are something to contend with. Remember, last year, Oprah was peddling the Secret, this year she chose Obama. Do you see the pattern?

Keep to your standards Salon , question all the contenders and do not succumb to the fanatics. You want idealism, go really volunteer and work for the poor, don't sit around your computers defending politicians. I was not a Clinton supporter, but these Obama fanatics, made me really love the Clintons. So refreshing, soiled and experienced. If I was looking for a minister I will consider Obama, but I never will look for a savior. Right now I want someone who can run this bordello we call a country and Hillary can do it. That is why all those geezers like Kerry et. al, go for Obama, they don't want a real leader who will kick their chicken shit asses into shape and do something for this country. Hillary will be our next LBJ, kick some Congressional ass into action.

    Joe Conason By Joe Conason

Joe, Get out of the Beltway Crowd. Your entire article was a defensive article about you. Maybe you should jump to the deadly boring folks at NPR who lost their touch twenty years ago when they all joined the country clubs in D.C. I used to love your commentary and then you lost your edge. Sheila, Eagle River, Alaska

So easy to attack another human beings work behind a contrived name. Oh, the power of the internet, we can all destroy anonymously, and without consequences, the work of others. Lovely.

  • On racism

[Read the article: Bill Clinton: The Chris Matthews of South Carolina]

There is an implication that by saying Jessie Jackson won that it makes Obama the "black candidate" Well, it's racist to think that being black is bad and association with Jessie Jackson is bad. Jessie Jackson was fighting the fight before and will always fight the fight. When did it become an insult to be black? When does pointing out past electoral wins become a denogration of a win now? When is that triangulation etc. etc. ?

If Obama does not want to be black he has to stop using black people.
