Who is scarier.
[Read the article: The poisonous rhetorical legacy of Karl Rove]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Who is scarier? Rove? or the Republican Senators, Governors, Congressmen that fell into lock step? Who is scarier? Rove or the press and the pundits that bought the script and took it ten steps further? Who is scarier? Rove or the fundie/conservative/soccer mom/heartland voter who fell into the lockstep?
Rove pulled the strings, but there are many above him and below him who are just as responsible for putting our nation in this mess. My question is and will continue to be how helpless we, the opposition, were to stop them. How are we all responsible for letting the little man have so much control?

Touching on two topics of the article.
[Read the article: Beyond the Multiplex]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I love to watch the new indies on cable's IFC option. The best part is that I can support the indies and at the same time just turn it off when it sucks. So, I watch indies at home. Hannah Takes the Stairs is one such movie. It was basically like I was teleported into the lives of some self absorbed, wimpy, 20 somethings, demi hippster, over paid, over praised, slobs, who have been told for years they are important and I was sentenced to a slow death. What the hell kind of work did they do, some movie/tv production. Yikes. All the characters should have been smothered early on. The boys were arrogant bastadrds and Hannah, was like a major pathetic slog. Now, I did not have the stamina to watch the whole thing, so, maybe things changed.
As far as I am concerned there should be a special channell or pay per view option for Danish, Norwegian and Icelanding movies. They can keep me busy forever.

Authorotarian Mind
[Read the article: Thomas Sowell offers superb Exhibit of the Right-wing Mind]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Brilliant ! This kind od article, straight, to the point and simply right on, makes it impossible to read the blather that is spewed in so called traditional journalism. Such exposure of the obvious idiocy of this mindset is never laid out so clearly.
Thanks...

I just don't get it!!
[Read the article: My son is almost 30 and won't leave home]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Beware, this is a tirade. I exxagerate to make a point, I don't want to hear all the individual cases that interfere with my gross generalizations.
I hear the X ers and all the post Boomer generations making fun of boomers. Lets get some things straight about Boomers: Our goal was to leave home. Well, we did not stay home. We did not get mommy and daddy to help with homework, college applications etc. We made our own way. We had multiple jobs, we drove crappy cars, we did not buy lots of clothes, we did not go out for cocktails and exotic food, we friggin saved money for things we wanted and did not use credit cards. We did not feel entitled to a lifestyle. We made our living. Maybe our parents were better parents than we were. We tried to protect you guys from all the things we were told were bad to do as parents and all we got is a kick in the teeth.
Look, this jive about it being more expensive now, when I was getting 3.75 an hour paying a 120 dollar rent was comprable to making 30,000 and trying to pay a 600-800 dollar rent. I did not expect to live in the lap of luxury, I lived in a rat hole for many a year. Actually, we coped. Get off your butts X'ers, and start coping. Stop mopping around the house, stop being wounded, stop being the spoiled brat consumers and get a life. Stop being coddled and stop being full of syndromes, allergies and getting diagnosed for stuff that is just laziness.
Yeah...yeah, I know it's tough being you guys. Right, like it was never tough before? And yeah..yeah, there are many lovely wonderful productive people of you guys, but I am making a huge generalizations that I am basing on a sample of 6, my X'er nieces and nephews. Anyway, what's the cuttoff for X'ers? Here's to hoping my Y'ers kids are better.
Stop blaming the poor mom, she has done all she could. Mom, stop feeling sorry for him and stop feeling guilty for being a single mom. Enough. He owns his life.

Description way more fun.
[Read the article: What you missed while watching "Rescue Me"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]To date I have to admit that my experience with the debates has been through the summaries here in Salon and snipets on the Web. Way more pleasant that watching these alleged debates.

War in our Times
[Read the article: How Bush is trying to save face in Iraq]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The troubling question is how our nationl forgot the Viet Nam quagmire and rushed like fools into Iraq. Based on lies and false bravado created by the politicians and given gravitas by the generals. Will this be the war that will convince people how ridiculous these wars that we get into are? Or will this also be cleansed from the memory, rewritten and the war mongers and profiteers will manage to re kindle the "patrriotic" fires in Americas middle? How long till we realize that war has become a completely ridiculous and unwinable in the old texbook/heroes/stars and stripes way?
Eisenhower where are you? Your warnings are not heeded and you are just a flicker of memory in antiquity. The marching band fools with yellow ribbons clamor for war, war that will legitimize existance. So many lives and so much of our national resources wasted, wasted for something most of us who are neither military experts or strategists, just knew was going to happen. How can any current military man, except for the ones who quit, be trusted when the obvious was so disregarded? Note to new president: fire them all, start new.
