  • she's trolling for new blood

[Read the article: My friend has gone bad]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

it happens to lots of singles in their 30s. the priority becomes expanding the social network (new blood) with the hopeful side benefit of finding a significant other.

you're her friend, I'm sure she still cares about you. but if you're hooked up already then you're second on her priority list. She wants to see you, know you're well, but if she's afraid she's going to miss 'the one' when she's hanging with you then she's going to be late showing up.

I've seen this a LOT with both men and women... taking a probability approach to dating... meeting more people betters the odds, all while maximizing your time.

And then it ends up going the other way when she finally hooks up with her guy and your 1st priority becomes your kids.

  • the difference between you and an unintelligent person is

[Read the article: I'm an absent-minded engineer; my mind wanders and so does my wallet]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

that a stupid person would have similar troubles but not know there was anything wrong. So go easy on yourself.

I like Cary's advice on designing your like software. That's clever.

Also, socially, check out 'Nerd Fun' at the meetupalliance dot com. It's for people that thrive on intellectual stimilation.

  • aw, I feel for Sherri

[Read the article: "The View" from here? Bleak]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The poor thing grew up w/ Jehovah's Witness's as parents, so she's going to be a little tweaked. She's finding her way through a new religious experience, all while being a voice on a popular national television show.

Whoopi Goldberg & Barbara Walters seem to be mentoring her through the gaffes, so she's in good hands.

  • did they make 'em wear hair nets instead?

[Read the article: Don't lose your head (scarves)]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

forget religious reasons, let's keep long hair contained in kitchens, even McDonald's kitchens.

  • arranged marriages work where the entire culture allows it.

[Read the article: Looking for the perfect stranger ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

the US has too many cultures all mixed together to have a successful marriage market.

there's definitely problems with our dating system. online dating sux for the most part, the bar scene sux, the inequality in awareness of biological clocks sux as well. women are forced into sperm banks to have kids while the guys sit in front of their HD tvs.

meetup dot com is the way to go. you find your type of people by what you like to do, and the people are actually _doing_ the stuff, and not just bleating about it in their ads. It worked for me, and I've seen it work for others.

  • tell her

[Read the article: Should I tell my boyfriend's wife about our affair?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    no question. tell her.

these types of guys are too common, and they've snowed too many kind hearted women.

she'll get over it quick enough.

  • spy vs pie

[Read the article: Girl crush: Julia Child]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    Julia's awesome.

  • I think this is all hilarious

[Read the article: Should Obama have picked Hillary?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

unless, of course, McCain/Palin get elected.

have a look at the photo montage for Sarah Palin at the huffington post.

v funny. (again, funny - if they're not in office)

  • @Elephantman - dude, you need to travel

[Read the article: Should Obama have picked Hillary?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

there's a big wide world out there where people dress different from us. Obama was visiting it, isn't that from Kenya where his father was from?

what's the big deal? please explain

    (I ask expecting intelligent discourse)

    [heh heh, she said 'discourse']

  • our orchestra's got one, she's great.

[Read the article: Where are all the female conductors?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Cynthia Woods of the Cambridge Symphony Orchestra (community orchestra outside of Boston)

she's my first woman conductor outside of grade school music teachers, and she really gets the music, & she's wonderful at getting us to play correctly without hurt feelings. (musicians are sensitive)

  • and Tom Bergeron dropped her? and Craig and Brook? wtf?

[Read the article: Heidi Klum says "auf wiedersehen" to her clothes]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I was also rendered extremely uncomforable by Tom Bergeron dropping Klum in the 'drama/comedy' bit.

Also, fan of Craig Ferguson that I am, his bit with Brooke Shields was really creepy - in a non-funny way.

I'd like also to mention, that since Tina Fey left as SNL's head writer SNL's jumped on the what-10-year-old-boys-think-is-funny train too. SNL's sucktastic lately, 'cept for the political skits in the first 5 minutes.

Tina Fey, Colbert, & Stewart saved this Emmy's. Colbert's eating prunes bit was hilarious.

  • why doesn't McCain lead the RNC down the right path, vs RNC leading McCain?

[Read the article: The Republican shipwreck]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

heck, the guy wants to run the free world... doesn't that include the RNC?

If he can't run his campaign with integrity behind his name branding, how could he be a decent president?

    it's all so weird.

  • a sacrifice we must make.

[Read the article: The end of the satirical industrial complex?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I'll give up 'comiseration' humor anyday.

Colbert & Stewart will be able to rip on Fox tv's coverage of an Obama presidency, I'm not too worried about them. They're funny enough to survive.

  • she is now and may she remain

[Read the article: Deep thoughts from Sarah Palin]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    a trivia question.

  • just say "Governor Palin, I quit!"

[Read the article: I hate my boss! ]

like the dweebs that would buy one.

  • meetup

[Read the article: What your loneliness is telling you]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

meetup dot com is taking off like gangbusters in cities. if you're a person that seems to not be able to find 'your people' there'll be a group on meetup doing something you like.

  • India, not England... is my guess, if we're guessing.

[Read the article: Hot for married co-worker]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

India has strict relationship rules, generally speaking. And people there don't "date" in high school like we do in the west. So there's often very little in the way of understanding feedback and signals from someone they're interested in.

On top of that there's this romantic notion, supported by Bollywood, where pining longingly for a woman is the way to go.

So _hopefully_ this guy isn't stalker creepy material. Hopefully he's just on his way learning the relationship skills that the rest of us got as teenagers.
