I've read some of the posts here after watching this video and having caught this little darling spewing her spew. I figured she was raised by Klansmen.
Then I wondered why they let this "nasty piece of work" as one post put it, on TV in the first place. Then it occured to me: Tyra Banks seems to have a thing for educating people or trying to. Exposing this little piece of trash's "conservatism" for what it really is...bigotry is probably going to be educational and enlightening given the context of the times we're in. Conservatives love to use these interesting code words that basically are a cover for their deep intolerance and bigotry, towards blacks, women, gay people, people of other religions, the list goes on and on. Considering how the mainstream media has been so reluctant to challenge the party line being pushed on us by Bush and Co., this is refreshing. Let the gay people in the fashion biz take the measure of this little xenophobe. Let the "liberals" take her down a notch or two by asking her straight up how the hell she ever got it in her pretty little head that she was going to make it as a model with the worldview she has acquired. One poster makes a point of saying she is being unfairly treated by letting her views be aired on national TV. She is still a child and all that. There's some truth to that, but on the other hand, she wants to be "America's Next Top Model" and she spews forth like a happy little volcano of hate. She wants to essentially get by on her good looks, which no self-respecting social conservative would ever agree with. Noting all that, my view is she waded into this shark pool on her own and she deserves to get chewed up and spit out.
Enjoy it while you can, darlin'. The clock's winding down on your 15 minutes of almost fame.
Here endeth the lesson.
I get how at this point, a motion to censure the president looks improbable at this point.
But Sen. Feingold gets my support for at least putting it out there and making the Republicans nervous.
My understanding is the senator has presidential aspirations. Well, I would certainly like to hear what he has to say, particularly since he doesn't have the taint of having voted to got war in Iraq so he doesn't need to explain that away to the Swift Boat crowd, nor did he vote for the Patriot Act, not its first version, nor the recently passed re-authorization. In fact, if memory serves, he tried to stop it from being passed. It would seem that Sen. Feingold has the integrity to challenge any Bush wannabe in 2008. He also seems to have the true moral force that comes from the courage of his convictions. He has been the lone voice of sanity and reason (with the possible exception of Barack Obama) within the Democratic circle. We need such a person to stand up and run for President. It would sure be a refreshing change. A candidate with ACTUAL principles and the courage to stand up for them and fight for them and not back down. Is that too much to hope for? Sen. Feingold has not only stood up for what he thinks is right, he's done it in a Senate full of people who lie on one hand, and complain about lying but do nothing about it on the other. He's also done it when it wasn't popular among his peers.
One could argue that George Bush has done the same thing. But that's demonstrably inaccurate. The truth is that George Bush has stood up for things that he isn't actually willing to put any political clout behind, and that are clearly wrong for the country. The list is endless: No Child Left Behind that hasn't been fully funded, Homeland Security, aid to Katrina victims, funding to fight global AIDS, FEMA, which has been gutted under this president, and that's just to name a few of the right fights. Moreover, Bush has picked the wrong fights and then run away when it got too intense. Notable examples; the Ports Dubai World deal, Social Security, and the Medicare overhaul which leaves seniors worse off than they were. There are others. Then he's stubbornly stuck to his guns about pre-emptive force in Iraq when it's obvious to any sane person that we've lost the war and the worst is yet to come. It's not just about having convictions and standing up for them. It's also about doing the thing that you know is right. Sen. Feingold seems to be willing to demonstrate that kind of character. There may yet be hope.
