That was a phenomenally good letter.
"Fat" and "old" are not horrible nasty insults. If you read them that way, check yourself.
It should have been blindingly obvious that Kate's sympathetic to Prescott. It completely blew my mind to see that it clearly wasn't and isn't. After I picked the shattered pieces of my skull up off the floor (yes I am being overdramatic but jeez louise people) I realized the mistake Kate made was to give her readers too much benefit of the doubt. Kate -- you can't go into flippant sarcastic mode on this kind of thing until people already get it, and unfortunately much of this crowd is still stalled out in pre-101. Not all -- but, sadly, it's not just the psycho-misogynist contingent.
