@hippie

There is nothing to "reclaim" . It wasn't what you think it was. Read my previous post. The further back you go, the more conservative this country becomes. Is that what you want to reclaim?

@Jug

You're not getting it. People keep saying how bad things have "gotten". No, they haven't gotten worse. Overall they have gotten better. Much better. Democrat, Republican, it makes no difference. The bottom line is that we are not on the road to destruction, teetering on the edge of anything. The bottom line is that we are far better off today than we have ever been (regardless of party), but the posters here seem to think that we are worse off. I think it is because they have an uninformed view of the past. Are we "scarier" than when we NUKED JAPAN?? I think not. It's just that you and so many others have liberalism so far up your butt that you refuse to even suggest that when the party not of you choosing is in power we are still OK. "Oh my, we're going to hell in a hand-basket because Jimmy Carter isn't president". Foolishness. Compared to where we have been, we are OK.

If you want to track a really disturbing trend, track our slide into socialism.

@Jug P.S.

How back do we need to go before we undo the "destruction" wrought on us by the current pols? Back to the days when the democrat party was the party of the south? Of the "good ole boys" in white hoods. Oh yeah, things have changed all right, but lets go back to those "good times" before GWB, RR, and all that.

Speaking of which, do you recall that famous line "segregation today, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever" made by that famous evil republican(?), George Wallace? So things have gotten worse, eh? We are scarier now, eh? You folks from Canadia might bone up on your history too.

You know,

I am thoroughly disgusted by both of the current political parties, but repeating known lies (all that crap about secessionism, etc) is not gaining you any fans.

Hey, the fems wanted a fem, and now they got one.

Cry me a river.

You know, guys, we all have access

to the same information (concerning Palin). What I always find humorous is how when someone disagrees with you, you call them a republican. Now there is open-minded, pluralistic, warm and fuzzy liberalism for you. Not really. Most of the liberalism I encounter is hateful and extremely narrow minded. All one has to do is look at the posts here, and some that I have saved since before the death threats against that girl liberal blogger (Kathy Sierra) when these forums were less moderated than they are now. Some of the more poignant ones I kept had to do with one proud liberal dreaming he was shooting me in the face. There's some free love for you.

I am not a republican. Not even close.

I am a crunchy conservative. Look it up.

BTW, with the socialist direction the republicans have taken the last several years (the medicare drug program = the US's largest entitlement ever), I would think you would welcome your new overlords.

Oh, my

Attacke her church and religious beliefs. I guess if it's ok for Sean Hannity, it's ok for Salon. But wait, doesn't Salon decry Sean Hannity's methods? I guess not...

@Lynx

Thanks for taking an interest in my posts over the years. I'm touched. No, really. Since you read mine, you undoubtedly have read the vile and vicious responses to them and can confirm that what I say is true, but enough of that.

You are demonstrating a profound ignorance of conservatism and the republican party (of today) by suggesting that the two have much, if anything in common. You may be thinking of Hannity's version of "conservatism" which is anything but. Ron Paul comes much closer, with Barry Goldwater being probably the best single-person reference. If you think that Goldwater would have anything in common with today's republicans, you are sadly uninformed.

@godot

"The difference is that Salon's attacks are based on the truth, whereas Hannity's are based on lies."

What a perfect rationalization. Sublime, truly sublime. The Germans had nothing on you.

You do realize, don't you, that the opposite can be argued just as persuasively... I hope, for the sake of those whose lives you may have influence over, that you recognise the juvenile sophistry you are engaging in.

True Conservatism

bears no resemblance to the republican part, that's all. I am a conservative, not a republican. You insist on calling me a republican, seemingly for no other reason than I disagree with you. If you have really read my other posts, you know that I do not align my self through proclamation nor demonstration of philosophy, with the republican party.

The crackpots come out

and Salon gives them a platform. The smell of desperation is overwhelming. You don't have to dig very deep to find someone who will say she's a witch that eats babies.

Original article: Obama comes out swinging

The free market has nothing to do with the situation we are in,

however the government has everything to do with it. Solution: more government "management". The government does nothing well, or efficiently. If it had not "encouraged" high risk mortgages, there would be none.

Anyone that does not understand this is stupid beyond words. Politicians (Obama/McCain included) will destroy anything and everything if that is what it takes to keep their jobs (as long as the destruction comes after they are out of office or dead).

History has obviously taught us nothing.

Original article: Sarah Palin's wasteful ways

The harder you try to make her look bad

The better she looks. It's even a nice picture. I go back in my memory to the days of Jimmy Carter, Nixon, Clinton. Can you imagine the horror and dread they would feel if the headlines said "Dun, Dun, Dunnnnnnnnn, Nixon spends FIFTY THOUSAND on office decorations!! Impeachment coming!! Or for that matter, any other politician today.

What a funny joke this is. Desperation is stinking to the sky at Salon.
