@bigguns

I have the exact same sentiment toward divorce. It is a profoundly selfish and violent act if there are children involved, and a profoundly childish, egocentric act when they are not. Not to mention, it is the act of a liar. When people get married (in most cases) there is something very prominently featured in the ceremony that indicates that it is a life-long contract. Those involved make a promise before man, friends, and in many cases God. How hollow a person must be to break such a solemn promise. I have no respect for breakers of that promise. How can you trust anyone who breaks a contract that they make with someone they profess to love? How much easier is it to break a contract or promise with an acquaintance? Divorcers are inherently dishonest. They said one thing and did another. How much plainer can I make it. You said one thing, and you did another. Don't like the choice you made in a life partner? TOO BAD! Be a big boy or girl and deal with it. Or don't do it in the first place. That will guarantee you honesty in such matters.

My wife and I agreed before we were married that divorce would not be an option. It was an agreement made between two rational, determined adults, and it has kept us together through 27 sometimes difficult years.

I am not saying that an honest spouse must endure another who is not maintaining fidelity. In that case the scumbag is the cheater and the victim is the honest person. In that case, a core tenet, one that cannot be "undone" has been violated, and the contract has been made subject to being voided (though many have persevered even this). And yes, I am aware of cases of abuse, etc where escaping harm is necessary for survival, but very few divorces come about due to violence.

The rest are just basically crap.

"Prejudice against older women, apparently, is one of the last non-taboo biases."

Well Joan, as an "older white Christian man", I feel your pain (said with an Arkansas drawl). Welcome to the club.

I like

Super-Fun-Pak Comix. Especially Uncle Cap'n. There was this live show in Detroit for kids that had a crazy/scary looking "Uncle Cap'n" as its host. I don't think crystal meth was around back then, so he just resorted to the bottle.

Oh, no. Bigguns is right.

See, you don't have to listen to "the reports". As a result of not being mush brained, my wife and I (in our peak earning years) have no revolving credit debt, one car payment and a mortgage. That's it. Now, with people practically giving stuff away to cover their $30,000+ revolving credit debt, we find bargains everywhere. And we can afford to buy.

It's great living off the fatheads of the land.

Big deal

republican, democrat, they are all the same. Socialist. For those of you that think that is such such a cool idea, just think "United States of France".

Knowing (unless you are really stupid) that politicians don't care if you live or die (except for the taxes you would not pay if you were dead), why do you suppose they want socialsm? What better way to make themselves complete rulers over your lives? Power. It's a gooooood thing, if you have it.

Yeah, the economy is sooo bad

that 2.5% of the local population do not have jobs (I live in a mid-market. About 1.3 million folks). Of course about 5% of the local population is incontinent, addicted, living under a bridge, or all three.

It's funny what people focus on (or not) when they want to make a point.

BTW, the bulk of those people that have "lost their homes" didn't lose anything, as they didn't have anything to start with. They just lived at a lower rent for a couple of years. No down payments, no closing costs, no proof of income, they wreck the place and walk out. Are they crying the blues? No, they're not. Notice how the media is the only ones boo-hooing the situation? Poor people. Boo hoo. Yes, that's pretty much what they are, poor people. And they will always be poor. Give them a million dollars and in a year they will have pissed it away, and be right back where they started. Poor people.

Gas prices do suck, however. I wonder how many speculative petroleum buyers are democrats? How many are republicans? Blaming is so easy, and so easily turned around.

"For the life of me, I cannot understand nor have I heard a good explanation of why there hasn't been at least an attempt to establish a left-leaning equivalent to Fox News."

Ummm, ever heard of CNN or Air America? Both shining beacons of liberal light. Well, one is. The other is broke. I guess you could tune in to Radio Cuba.

@ djlm62

"I admire this guy for continuing his personal exploration". Exploration? pht... This guy is a loser. Hopefully he won't burden his family by requiring them to feed him through a tube for the rest of his life as a result of his "exploration". Ever seen anyone with self-imposed Parkinson's disease? I have. That would no doubt make him a better father. Hopefully he won't burn their house down while they are asleep. This guy is no better than a wanton drunk. Anyone who purposely loses control of his body and/or mind is an idiot, and I speak from experience. No more, however. I grew up.

The article would be better titled "Confessions of a self absorbed jackass".

Salon should be ashamed of themselves for promoting drug use. What next? The toon section featuring The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers? (Yeah, that's how far back I go...)

Save it?

Uh, it was pretty much crap from the get-go. Jazz and Soul mark the high points of the African-American contribution to music, and rap definitely the bottom. Lionizing a continuous stream of profanity is truly a sad sign of the decline of society.
