If you wish to donate your son's body to the church of hip hop, so be it. Just remember this: "You are in charge. You are responsible".

Well, I don't know much about either topic, but I do know that scientists through the ages, and the arrogant posters to this forum are never wrong, and I place my full confidence in their majestic, inerrant wisdom. I trust them with my very soul, as should everyone.

Gosh, it is so good to know that, as a degreed software designer, and manager of a major corporations data system, that I am a moron, simply because I do not trust science for all of lifes answers.

When I die, if Doctor J is correct, there will be no thanking, and no one to thank. If, when I die, Doctor J, et al are wrong, I will be looking for them in hell.

  • Shocked!

[Read the article: Bush's impeachable offense]

I'm shocked, SHOCKED, I tell you, at what this article has uncovered.

    P.S.

Politics is a disease of the mind, and they ALL have it. To suggest that one politician is better or worse than another only demonstrates your stupidity.

  • Stupidity...

    Quote:

Of course then when they are out...

...they will be replaced by an even worse bunch. What I meant by suggesting that stupididty is personified by not recognizing that all politicians are equally corrupt, is that they should ALL be prosecuted, and you posters should recognize this. I find it humorous that many readers of Salon indicate that that Bush is bad, and that somehow the others (Clinton, Kerry, et al) are not just as sick, if not more so.

The grand statements made herein to the effect that some politician is virtuous simply because he or she is not George Bush is like saying that the black plague is better than the bird flu, because it happens to not be currently killing people. Give it a chance, and the plague will prove you wrong. The same goes for groups of politicians.

This politician is baaaaad, but this politician is gooooood. Jeez, no wonder you people lose elections.

Politics is a disease of the mind, and they all have it. Humans like to control other humans. Humans love power. Get over it. When things get bad enough, the French Revolution occurs.

So, you hate Bush. Big deal. The same "cataclysm of disastrous disasters" could have been pinned on any of the last 10 presidents. How about some solutions, Mr. Blumenthal (viable, not laughable). How about some solutions that don't involve me paying for them.

It's is a good thing that you don't care whether I respect you or not. You are every millimeter as warped as the politicians you write about.

  • Litany?

[Read the article: The year in politics]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Quote: "After this litany of problems..."

Litany? Litany? Had this been the Clinton presidency, the article could have been 20 pages long, and left tons of material on the table. Don't get me wrong, I think Bush is just as corrupt as all the other politicians, and he's so doofy, he can't string three words together without a long pause...

But litany? I think not. Open your eyes and stare at reality for a while. There are a lot of reasons why the mindless electorate likes Bush. Not the least of which is that he appears to have some kind of primordial spine when it comes to facing an enemy (even if it is a make-believe enemy). Remeber when Isreal used to put the smack-down on anyone that threatened them? That's what the good ole' votin' boys like. Remember (oh, what short term memories we have) the days follwing 9/11. The country was furious, and said "you better smack someone, anyone. And make it quick!" The one thing I can say for Bush, is that for a few minutes, I had the same respect for him that I used to have for Israel.

  • Fundamentalism and Evangelicalism

[Read the article: Reformed school girl]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I agree with Chet Farmer that the author may have introduced some confusion with her definitions. Speaking in tongues and faith healing is an almost exclusively pentacostal practice. Pat Robertson is a pentacostal, Jerry Falwell is a fundamentalist, but they are both evangelicals. The term evangelical simply refers to those that beleive that their primary purpose on earth is to reach those who have not heard, an example set by the original disciples of Christ - most of whom would be considered missionaries today.

I grew up in a (basically) secular home, but I graduated from Liberty University, Jerry Falwell's school (long story). I can say this much, after raising two boys who are now attending the same school (by choice, and very much liking it - see Winterfest at www.liberty.edu if you don't think kids can enjoy a Christian upbringing), Christianity is the best thing that ever happend to me. When God and Jesus are presented as they are defined by the book that is the only source of their description, a picture of perfect love is presented (emphasis on perfect - it may not be what you think). If you have not yet figured out that we are all flawed, you are in denial. If you ask the hard questions, and require more than the "you are a product of chance, your emotions are just chemical reactions" answers, then the information in the book that defines God and Jesus provides more than simple answers. It provides what science and scorn cannot: hope.

    Best,
