Glenn is right on. It futile to move off democratic principles simply to pander. Lets keep supporting the idea of getting rid of the Bush democrats
In 2003 Iran made an overture to the United States indicating a willingness to enter into discussions on a wide range of topics including their nuclear program. In typical Bush administration fashion Iran was simply brushed off.
Sen. Obama could have easily brought up this blunder and asked McCain if he regrets that the U.S. missed what could have been a break through opportunity.
If Donald Rumsfeld, and others in Graner's chain of command, had been prosecuted and imprisoned, which clearly should have happened, I would not feel too much sympathy. This has not been the case and it seems most unlikely that this will happen now.
I suggest that, considering the harshness of his confinement, simple fairness would now requires some relief.
