  • Definition of Terrorism Too Broad

[Read the article: Is Briana Waters a terrorist?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The definition of domestic terrorism under the PATRIOT ACT is far too broad. The definition includes trying to influence the policy of the government by intimidation or coercion. Under that definition forms of civil disobience and boycotts. As for ecoterrorism, this article by Ted Rall shows that their is no such thing. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ucru/20080311/cm_ucru/ecoterrorismtheresnosuchthing

  • Burma, Tibet are Separate issues

[Read the article: Torching the Olympics]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Mixing the fight for Burmese democracy with independence for Tibet is like mixing apples and oranges. The fight in Burma is against a corrupt fascist government while the supporters of Tibet independence are supporting the remnants of a corrupt feudal regime. The Chinese government is not an enemy of the Burmese democracy movement and does not support the Burmese government. The Chinese government is merely following a policy of non-interference in the internal affairs of other nations. Also, Chevron and the French oil company Total have had large investments in Burma but if the Olympics had been in Paris I doubt that their would be calls for boycotts. As for the Chinese being responsible for the fighting in Darfur this article refutes those allegations.http://www.counterpunch.org/gowans02162008.html

  • Bill Ayers

[Read the article: The fallout from the Democratic debate]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Why should Obama regret having connections with Bill Ayers? Ayers may have made some mistakes but he was opposing an illegal and genocidal war. He never even killed anyone. I bet that Hillary Clinton would not have been criticized for being on the same board as Kissinger even though Kissinger is considered by many to be a war criminal for the part he played in the Vietnam War.

  • Nothing Offensive about Reverend Wright

[Read the article: George Bush is John McCain's Rev. Wright]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I found Joan Walsh's and Barack Obama's comments about Wrights recent comments to be bizarre. It was as if they read or listened to entirely different speeches. I thought that Wright acquited himself very well. He did a good job of explaining the history of the black church in America. He explained that he didn't share Farrakhans views. Wright unlike Farrakhan is a known advocate for women's rights and the rights of homoxexuals. I haven't read the books that Wright mentioned about AIDS but he put his comments about controversial AIDS theories by saying that he had suspicions about the U.S. government because of the Tuskegee Experiment. They're wasn't anything divisive or hateful in what Wright said. His message is based on hope and reconciliation. Wright is a member of a mostly white parish and he complimented white Christians for helping to end slavery. What did Obama mean when he said that Wright had compared the actions of U.S. troops abroad to those of terrorists? I don't remember Wright saying that. When Wright said God Damn America, he was quoting former U.S. ambassador Edward Peck. The comment was not different then Dr. King saying that America was founded on genocide and was the greatest purveyer of violence in the world or Abraham Lincoln in his Second Inaugeral address saying that the Civil War was gods punishment on America for slavery. Mark Twain said that the U.S. should change its flag to the skull and crossbones because of the the U.S. occupation of the Phillipines. Is Obama going to renounc Dr. King or Lincoln next. Wright should be the keynote speaker at the Democratic National Convention this year. Obama should embrace Wright and help to delfect the false criticisms of Wright. That way Wright will be turned from a liability into an asset. I think that Wright's rhetoric would appeal to white working class voters as much as it does black voters because Wright talks about the fight against oppression and working class people of all races are under attack from corporate downsizing and other ills. Obama has no reason to be ashamed of Wright.

  • Can Anyone Explain Why Obama got so mad at Wright?

[Read the article: George Bush is John McCain's Rev. Wright]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I don't understand Obama's negative reaction. His criticisms of Wrights recent public comments make no sense. Wright was only defending his church against attack. The media has been harassing his parishioners and implying that they are racist. Not only was Wright were Wrights comments not egotistical but in his Press Club speech, he hardly even mentioned himself. He mentioned Fannie Loue Hammer, Sojourner Truth, and other greats of the Civil Rights movement and the fight against slavery. Is Obama going to renounce all those people too. Wright was very articulate and recieved a good reception from the people in attendence. He did a good job explaining his previous comments on AIDS and Farrakhan. Wrights ideology is completely different from that of Farrakhan and he is no more a Farrakhan supporter then Joan Walsh and any of the letter writers here. Here are links to Wrights Press Club speech and his interview with Bill Moyers. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/28/us/politics/28text-wright.html?_r=2&adxnnl=1&oref=slogin&adxnnlx=1209777109-znIaQkCZh7GBwnAQsdfrXA

Wright has been a respected theologan for years and if Obama is elected president then Wright will be around long after Obama leaves office.

  • Wesley Clark?

    [Read the article: Obama Veepstakes]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Wesley Clark is the worst potential veep on the list. Why would adding an unindicted war criminal add anything to the ticket. The unrestricted bombings that the forces under Clark unleashed on Yugoslavia's infrastructure were a violation of international law and war crimes. The attack on Yugoslavia had no more justification then the attack on Iraq.

  • Missouri

[Read the article: Bateman: Who should be John McCain's running mate?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Missouri was already a state when Benjamin Harrison was president.

  • Michigan and Florida

[Read the article: The ugliest election]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Not counting the delegates from Florida and Michigan is nothing like Bush stealing the election in Florida. For one thing, Edwards and Obama weren't on the ballot in Michigan and if they had been most of the votes that were registered undecided would have gone to either of them. Also, Clinton broke the agreement not to campaign in either of those states and that because it was known beforehand that both primaries were just beauty contests, the voter turnout was probably lower then it would otherwise have been. It would therefore be unfair to seat the delegates from either state. Clinton is the one who is acting like Bush.
