simple

Healthcare and cap-and-trade are not going to be passed.

Thursday, September 24, 2009 11:35 AM

wow

Some real loons on here saying that $150,000 is too much for a doctor to make. Whenever I see envy directed towards people who are smart and hard-working I realize that the notion of wealth redistribution could only be supported by those masking their lack of intelligence by trying to seem compassionate towards the less fortunate.

Tuesday, September 22, 2009 10:59 AM

It is now 2012

The Dow is at 12,000, the job and housing markets are improving. Healthcare reform and cap-and-trade legislation both went down in flames. The debt and deficit are completely out of control. Obama is doubling down in Afghanistan against the wishes of his left-wing base. No officials from the CIA or the Bush administration have gone to jail. The price of a barrel of oil is $150 and the American public is wondering why domestic drilling was shelved by Obama. Independent voters are no longer smitten and reelection is very much up in the air.

Original article: In defense of ACORN

Didn't Glenn Geenwald ask us for money so that Salon could do more "journalism"?

All I know for sure is that ACORN, which operates as a tax exempt organization, is the subject of over 30 current investigations and indictments in 11 states. Also, the brother of the organization's president embezzled $1 million and they didn't see fit to report it to anybody. What we need is more clarity, will the journalists at Salon please do some digging and get to the bottom of this?

Thursday, September 17, 2009 02:39 PM

@rrheard

Here's how it works, ACORN takes millions of dollars from the U.S. taxpayer and uses it to commit voter registration fraud. They stuff the voter registry with more names than even live in the precinct. How does this help? Once there is a registration on the books the democrats who work at the polling places can do their best to make sure that when no one is looking "Mickey Mouse" casts an actual vote. It is a criminal enterprise and the significance of the prostitution scandal is that they probably won't be able to influence future elections. Just to be clear, I'm not saying that Obama stole the 2008 election but if you think Al Franken won his seat fairly you are a retard.

Thursday, September 17, 2009 01:48 PM

@rrheard

This is not a manufactured controversy - it is a legitimate scandal and shows that government money shouldn't be funneled towards nefarious ends. BTW, I can't defend the TARP giveaways (it would have been better to temporarily put the banks in receivership) but, just out of curiosity, where did Obama stand on the Wall Street handouts?

Thursday, September 17, 2009 11:54 AM

K. Trout - are you serious?

On one tape, the ACORN employee not only offered advice for setting up a brothel in the neighborhood but he then offered help bringing underage girls into the country to staff it. Then, on the way out the door, he asked how much the girl charged. Can you really assert that an organization that employs these kinds of people should receive money from the government? What planet are you living on?

rate

If the issue is that they're saying the card has a fixed rate when it doesn't then fine but I wonder how many people would read that and not know the rate is variable.

Thursday, September 17, 2009 07:40 AM

OK Andrew

They should give dead beats with bad credit a Visa card that is fixed at 5% interest and no penalty for failing to make monthly payments. Is that what you're saying?

Wednesday, September 16, 2009 03:51 PM

@Timothy3

That's right Timmy - the class war is underway and you are losing.

Tuesday, September 15, 2009 03:12 PM

@essmeier

Yes - it was the top tax rate but you have to remember that people who make a lot of money aren't guaranteed to make a lot of money every year. What if the vast majority of your entire life's earnings come in one or two years (instead of the Beatles think Freddie and the Dreamers)?

Tuesday, September 15, 2009 01:54 PM

Of course not...

but the 95% bracket did lead to a number of high earners leaving the country. Would you work for 5%?

Tuesday, September 15, 2009 12:47 PM

interesting

Did you know that they banned the National Park Service from making crowd estimates after the (not even half a) Million Man March? Apparently the ban was lifted for the annointed One (see link at sig). Does anyone think that 850,000 is a small number of people?

Friday, September 11, 2009 08:34 AM

donations

Maybe we should enlist the help of ACORN (unless they're too busy setting up brothels) to raise money for our guy.

Thursday, September 10, 2009 01:32 PM

@rrheard

Yes - most of you would never have gone into Afghanistan in the first place. And when the terrorists operating there pulled off another 9/11 you would have said that the U.S. deserved it.

Thursday, September 10, 2009 10:17 AM

46mm?

If there are 46 million Americans without insurance in this country then why did Obama say there were 30 million?

Thursday, September 10, 2009 10:14 AM

Viva

Illegal immigrants won't be entitled to tax subsidies under the proposed plan. Of course, there will be no citizenship verification requirements to ensure that they are excluded from benefits they are not due. So... viva la raza.

Tuesday, September 8, 2009 02:02 PM

Do they check your net worth at the butcher shop?

You have to have a net worth of greater than $1mm in order to purchase any kind of exotic financial product including investing in a hedge fund. You did know that right?

Friday, September 4, 2009 07:46 AM

the worst kind of capitalist

Do you mean George Soros?

Wednesday, September 2, 2009 01:28 PM

right

Instead of a rare element with specific properties they will figure out a way to use something else. Is that why we're still using platinum in our catalytic converters? Keep dreaming.

Monday, August 31, 2009 04:11 PM

Andrew

Are you advocating that we Americans "squeeze the last drop out" of the vast oil deposits off the California coast?

Monday, August 31, 2009 01:17 PM

print and spend

So what happens when you print money as a way to address every problem we face and you give the impression to the world that printing money will be our response to every future problem we face? It's going to take more dollars to buy foreign goods (like oil) and more Americans will turn to big gov't for help.

Wednesday, August 26, 2009 07:34 AM

a nice remark...

from one of the least accomplished Americans to serve our democracy

Friday, August 21, 2009 12:16 PM

@jschultz

You're talking about social saftey nets - they're great and I fully support them. Those are programs for helping poor people not preventing poverty.

Friday, August 21, 2009 11:57 AM

@pedro

Food, housing, and medical care are not rights in this country. You must be thinking of some other country where communism has created a society without poverty.
