Original article: Victory in Iraq?

'How much longer and for what prize?'

I've said it before and I'll say it again:

The prize W wants is the "prestige" of bringing democracy to a Middle Eastern nation, and his place in history that goes along with that prestige. (In my opinion: ain't gonna happen.)

The prize Dark Dick and his cronies want: OIL. (In my opinion: they won't give up until they've got it, no matter how many dead it takes.)

The interview

Granted, the questions were totally lame, but here's what I got out of this interview: For the millionth time, our pResident has proved what a small mind he has.

He gave absolutely no thought to his answers and what popped out of his mouth was as always -- even in the now famous "Bullhorn Moment -- shallow B.S.

Original article: Karl Rove to resign

He's got something up his sleeve

TrueBlue and Designated Knitter are right: He's not tired of it all and wants a vacation. NO, he knows there's nothing more he can do for W, so he's going to work on the 2008 election.

Wait for "Hilary's black love child" or "Hilary is really a lesbian." You can insert you own implausible lies here about any of the Dem's candidates. Karl will be working behind the scenes, as always.

TurdBlossom isn't done yet, I'm afraid.

Original article: Fourteen

"The Iraqi parliament remains on vacation."

I know it's fun to be snide, but please remember, WE invaded their country. WE destroyed their country. WE bombed them to hell and killed thousands of civilians. They didn't ask for this.

Of course the eons-old feuds aren't the U.S.' fault, but WE knew about them. A child would have enough logic to know that this would happen. Apparently, our administration didn't care. Because it's all about cheap (or free) oil.

P.S. Why are the truly stupid comments always from Anonymous? Because they know just how stupid they are????

Here's the Republican agenda

Look, you all know what the Repugs want: the rich to get ever richer.

New Orleans - Let's rebuild the downtown and touristy area quickly, so that the conventions can come back to town in a hurry = $ for investors. Rebuilding homes and schools for poor black people, not so much.

Iraq - Let's invade this country and get all that oil; we'll pretend it's in the name of democracy = $ for investors and the oil industry. Helping the Iraqi people, not so much.

Anyone care to add to the list?

Here's what stood out for me in this article

Bill Kristol: "It's not credible to tar a political party with the misdeeds of one person,"

It's NOT? What about Bill Clinton and the Democratic Party? Seemed fair game then!

Remember the "bringing back decency to Washington" or whatever the Repug's slogan was back in 2000? Well, we all know how that turned out!

And oh by the way -- "one person"? How many Repugs have been caught in the act in the last seven years?

Bill Kristol is another master of hypocrisy.

What I find creepy

I've heard about sex in public restrooms (I mean, we all remember George Michael, right?).

Ewww. I don't even sit down on a public toilet. Ewww. I touch everything with two fingertips in a public restroom. Eww. But I digress.

Still, I've always thought the scenario went like this: Two strangers eye each other, wink, maybe flirt, then one asks "Wanna have sex?" The other agrees, and they go at it in the nearest halfway private place -- in this case a toilet stall.

Instead, I find out that there are special signals involved, footsies and finger waving. And that Craig is well versed in those special signals.

Now THAT'S what I find especially creepy.

Ewww, ewww, triple ewww. Poor wifey.

Maybe I'm being cynical

. . .but don't you think that the people who actually passed muster and were hired would NOT 'fess up? I mean, if I as a liberal were hired (after obviously lying about my political persuasion), I would have been upset by these questions. But it seems to me that all the people who were hired thought it was A-OK.

The only people who'd be upset by this type of questioning either weren't hired, or they were already at the DOJ.

And another thing

"Turner vociferously defended the changes and even attacked the constitutionality of FISA itself, saying it was an unconstitutional intrusion by Congress upon the powers of the president and that 'FISA is only going to work if you have the agreement of the president.'"

There's the telling message: it's all about the powers of the pResident. Has this guy never heard of checks and balances?

Message to King George (as well as the spineless Democrats): This is OUR government, not YOURS.

Amen to AJB

It's the oil. Alway was, always will be.

Thank you!

"A U.S. district judge in New York today struck down portions of the new-and-improved Patriot Act, ruling that the act 'offends the fundamental constitutional principles of checks and balances and separation of powers'"

You bet it offends! And what a sorry country that there is this law known as the "Patriot" Act.

Thank you, judge, for your voice of reason and sanity.

I'm from Minneapolis and here's what the local news reported

(1) There were complaints that this particular rest room at the airport had too much wild sex going on (I'm paraphrasing, of course) and so the airport commission was asked to have an undercover cop look into it. [Note: Before this incident, I had no idea anyone would have sex in an airport rest room. Yeah, I'm naive.]

(2) The Minneapolis Star Tribune's reader's rep was asked why the paper didn't catch this until long after it happened. (It happened in June, I think.) The answer: Because this was a misdemeanor and because the name "Larry Craig" is fairly generic, this didn't catch any reporter's eye.

(3) The only reason it came out at all is because an Idaho newspaper was doing an investigative report on the senator (investigating his alleged homosexual practices, that is).

All in all, it doesn't sound like a set-up at all. Actually, from what I've learned, he's lucky this hasn't happened before.
