@thankgodfortheAtlantic

What's a "Ususper"? A U.S. U.S. person? What?

Please 'splain to us your lovely shorthand. Thx!

@Kalyarn

Yeah, it's always been mind-boggling to me:

Americans are perfectly fine with having to take a driving test to get a driver's license, and having to register their cars, BUT THEY DON'T WANT TO HAVE TO REGISTER THEIR GUNS.

These are instruments whose only purpose is to kill.

What's up with that?

"Well, it looks like the public option is dead."

When President Obama gave his televised speech before Congress on health care reform, I was sure I heard him mention the public option as a necessary component. But after the speech, I heard Bob Schieffer say, "Well, it looks like the public option is dead." Bob, what speech were you listening to?

Every second or third day, we hear on T.V./radio or we read in the paper/online, "The public option is dead."

Why is everyone insisting that? When a health care bill passes without the public option, THEN we can all declare: "The public option is dead."

But before that happens, quit quit quit repeating it. To me, it sounds like a sneaky Repug trick: repeat a lie often enough and the public will believe it.

@syskill and others

"@RDisdier - Calm down, take a deep breath, count to ten. This isn't about registration requirements or other sundry restrictions on gun ownership. . ."

LOL. About 20 years ago, my panties were in a wad regarding guns. Now I really don't care all that much anymore. I've made my peace with the fact that Americans like their guns. (I'm German and I'm not used to gun ownership.)

I'm also aware that the article was not about gun registration. Maybe I shouldn't have posted here.

However, I did post here because I was "musing." I personally think if you are going to possess something that is solely used to kill (excuse me, also used for target practice), in any event, a dangerous device, then there should be proper regulations in place.

I was musing about the fact that Americans flip out (or maybe just the NRA???) whenever ANY kind of regulation is imposed on gun ownership.

Just musin'. Just think it's odd. But go ahead and have your "well armed militia."

P.S. So sorry the writers of the Constitution did not have the foresight to include car ownership. So that's not a constitutional right. Ah, how sad. But we do track them because (1) they're expensive property and (2) they can kill people and we want someone to be liable. Hmmm. But that never applies to guns, whether used on a public road or not.

A few thoughts

(1) "It's not often that conservatives celebrate the U.S. losing out to countries like Brazil and Spain," - Alex K

Conservatives will celebrate ANY defeat if Democrats were involved. It doesn't matter if the results are bad for the country. The Party of No.

(2) Conservatives remind me of sixth-graders.

(3) "I'm in Peru (an expat here). . . - OnTheBeat"

Stay there. Please.

@OnTheBeat

"Over the last several years you liberal hypocrite assholes were here cheering Bush choking on a pretzel, wishing Cheney would die of a heart-attack, comparing both to bim Laden himself, laughing at every slur that came from either's mouth, and just having a great time trashing our president and Republicans."

When President Obama does the following:

1. Ignores advice about keeping an eye on bin Laden, and then another Sept. 11th happens as a result;

2. Illegally invades a foreign country under a false pretext;

3. Says it's just hunky-dory to torture (uh, "enhanced interrogations") because that gets such great results;

4. Trashes the economy;

5. Lots more stuff but you get the point (wait: OnTheBeat will not get the point, but others will).

THEN you can call us hypocrites.

@runfastandlose

"@ RDisdier

We can call you hypocrites right now. You don't get to tell us what we can call you, and when we can call you it. It's a free country douchebag. Get over it."

LOL. As I noted before, conservatives are sixth-graders.

(Or maybe four-year-olds, in runfastandlose's case.)

Although I've never glanced at a single copy of Gourmet magazine

I, too, am sorry that it's gone. It was my boyfriend's favorite cooking magazine. He's the cook in our household and I sure benefited from those recipes!

@Saintzak

You're thinking of "The Communist Manifesto" by Karl Marx. Ayers ghost-wrote it before he was born.

The Repugs are sooo Freudian, it always kills me

"Replied Boehner, 'Well, it was a different time. I can tell you when I was majority leader, at the time, in almost all cases, I insisted that members have at least 24 hours to read a bill before it came to the floor. But that was -- it’s a different time.'”

Translation: "WE were in power then, and we could do whatever we damn well pleased. Rules only apply to others."

What's bizarre is . . .

. . .the sour grapes pouring forth from the Right.

And I certainly count Brian Williams as being on the Right (yes, you, Mr. Williams, who was constantly kissing W's ass).

She's been hospitalized for cancer

. . .and she's taking cold medicine? Criminies, that stuff is crap and doesn't do a thing for your cold, but does plenty of bad stuff to your body.

Sleeping aids? Does plenty of bad stuff to your body, but I guess it does make you sleep.

Still, if I'd had cancer, I'd be stuffing myself with vitamins and healthy, organic food and nothing else.

Learn to JUST SAY NO to doctors pushing drugs.

Just my humble opinion.

LOL

Makes me proud to be a German!

While we're on the subject of Sarah Palin. . .

. . .there are some erie similarities between her and W:

-Both have delusions of grandeur

-Both can't string together a complete sentence by themselves

-Both are dumb as rocks (with W being a tad smarter)

-I'm sure Conservatives would love to have a beer with SP

SP is a lot prettier than W, I will give you that.
