No matter how careful these people are in public, in private (and this idiot thought Facebook was private, LOL), a true racist will out.
I lived in Florida for awhile, where the insurance company I worked for had a "special code" for blacks.
Of course black people have always been equated with monkeys in the South (and probably in the North, and certainly in Victorian England). That said, I was hoping that kind of thinking at least had disappeared. How naive I was!
It's not bad enough that he's insulted Michelle Obama, but she's a public figure and has been insulted plenty of times. What is telling is the absolute mean-spiritness behind what he's saying. And he's talking about all black people, because that's the way he thinks about all black people.
Then he had the nerve to say that it's all in jest, and to issue one of those famous Republican apologies ("I'm sorry if you were offended -- you sensitive sissy.").
I don't believe in being "politically correct." I do believe in at least trying to be kind.
As Human Power above, and others elsewhere, have said: The U.S. no longer has the moral right to object to stolen and fraudulant elections. That ship has sailed.
Just as the U.S. no longer has the moral right to protest torture.
As always, thanks, Repugs!
Libertyaintfree, put that on your sandwich and swallow.
Can anybody remember anything that Bill Kristol has been right about?
Why is he even still an "expert." He's never right.
W offering advice on the economy.
W offering advice on how to keep Murca safe.
ROFL. . .or crying.
For over 200 years, the U.S. government has consisted entirely of white men. Now we getting a little more diverse. That's a GOOD thing.
I think there are a lot of women/blacks/hispanics/native Americans/disabled/gays who are just as capable of serving their government as white males. And now they're got more of an opportunity to do just that.
Once again, that's a GOOD thing.
But why, oh why, does everything in politics always have to be about money? In this case, it's how much fundraising the Repugs can get out of it. But it's the Dems, too.
Why does every frigging thing have to be about money? Why can't it ever be about what's good for the country, or good for the world?
Yes, I know. Hopelessly naive.
I am so glad that I don't get cable. I can't imagine paying for this garbage.
I don't even have the stomach to watch the video.
. . .falls.
Ah, family values!
Absolutely!
He's kept Franken out of the Senate for 6 months, so he's accomplished his mission. Easy to be gracious now.
I was watching the local media here in Minneapolis yesterday. They showed Franken's press conference in full, but after that, it was all about Norm and his so-called graciousness.
Can't stand the man.
SO GLAD McCain didn't win.
You sound like a five-year-old who can't get his cocoa puffs.
I voted for Al Franken and I'm glad the long Minnesota nightmare of Norm Coleman is over (for now -- he's thinking of running for Gov again, apparently).
Congratulations, Senator Franken. We finally have a Senator worthy of Paul Wellstone.
I'm left-handed, but use my right hand at least 40% of the time. Then I learned that most people are both; however, society encourages the use of the right hand, so most people end up solely using that hand. Only a few people are actually 100% left-handed or 100% right-handed; most of us are shades in between.
This is what I was thinking of as I read the article. I know, it doesn't fit perfectly. But isn't it nice to know that in your female body, there might be a lot of male characteristics going on and vice versa? Nature can be pretty nuanced.
Thank you for making me think!
"What newspapers do you read?"
"All of them."
Palin/Bachmann 2012 & 2016. (After that, they're too wrinkly to try to be elected.)
Makes for a great country-western song!
Sotomayor is going to sail through the hearings.
And if not, maybe Obama will nominate a truly liberal judge.
Number of years it took the economy to fail: 8 years (or maybe since Reagan, who knows)
Number of years the Repugnants want it fixed: 1/12 (i.e., in one month)
These crybabies wrecked the economy and our lives and what are they saying now? "Tax breaks for the rich, tax breaks for the rich."
They truly are repugnant to me. Yeah, I'm bitter.
Nathan Coker: "Especially when they're saying "no" to a deal that would put the government on the hook for TRILLIONS, with no real way to pay for it. (How's that whole Medicare thing working out now? What about Social Security?)"
It is costing Americans trillions EVERY DAMN YEAR for medical expenses, so don't even start. And how many Americans are currently depending on Medicare and Social Security? You want to ask them if they'd rather have invested their social security payments in the stock market? Or if they'd rather have private insurance -- if the insurance cos. will even take them?
Mike LeP: "Why is this so urgent?"
It's politics. And politics suck. If Congress goes into recess without resolving this, then it will be 2010 and they'll be in the middle of campaigning. Unfortunately, none of these politicians have the balls to want to talk about health care reform to their constituents. They think it's a losing proposition. Yes, politics suck.
