The RNC

In St. Paul, bar owners had to pay $2,500 to remain open until 4:00 a.m. A few did, but for most, it wasn't worth it.

Five a.m. does seem like a little much, but then again, I'm usually up by 5:00 a.m.

Vilsack

"He is a champion for America's farmers"

. . .Cause those big corporations with their huge subsidies really, really need a champion.

Listen, we're adults

For crying out loud, please do something that makes sense and is good for the country, rather than talking about political suicide.

Yes, increase the gas tax incrementally. Give people plenty of time to move to the city where they work (there are lots of empty houses available). Give them plenty of time to change their driving habits.

Use the tax for public transportation and bike paths, as someone has already suggested. This will benefit the poor, too.

JUST DO IT!

"Thanks for nothing Connecticut

So soon stupid, so late smart."

You can say the same thing about Americans and Bush.

Quit yer kvetching

She's got a great resume, she's intelligent, and she's fresh blood. Isn't that the perfect combo? Remember term limits? Everybody wanting new blood in Congress?

Don't discount her because she's never wanted to be involved in politics before. She does now.

I think she'll be a great asset to the Senate.

Hawking his latest book

'"In December, Chuck is giving away a free chapter from his New York Times best-seller, 'Black Belt Patriotism.' To get yours, go to ChuckNorrisNewBook.com. 'Black Belt Patriotism' makes a great Christmas gift!"'

Cause those free gifts we get from websites make such ever so nice Christmas gifts!

Am I being picky?

First of all, I've never seen "yarmulke" spelled yamaka. But then we get this:

"the word marriage is a religious, holy, word that people who go to church on sundays are told belongs to them. like yamaka, menorah, or matzo."

O.k., people who "own" the words yarmulke, menorah, and matzo (funny, that last one -- real holy) do NOT got to church on Sundays. They usually go to temple on Saturdays, if they're observing Jews.

"he just wants to wear his yamaka, and me wear my hat."

Uh, I don't think Rick Warren wants to wear a yarmulke. Does he even own one??

But I do get the message she's trying to send. I just think this particular way of putting it makes her look mighty uneducated.

@J.C. Miller

"a transparently prevaricating, addicted adolescent, who has cliqued-up with war criminals and disordered demagogues"

You're talking about W, right?

Original article: Bush pardons 19

@John762

Don't you have it backwards?

With his sentence only commuted, Scooter doesn't have to testify. If he's pardoned, he would, in theory. (The theory being that there would actually be an investigation. Of course, since no sex was involved, there most likely will not be an investigation.)

Jeb's dream

"'We must rebuild the Party by focusing on the common purposes and core conservative principles that unite us all -- limited government, a strong national defense and safe homeland and the protection of liberty tempered by personal responsibility.'"

Let's see, how well did that go in the last eight years?

Limited government -- no.

A strong national defense -- Sure, if you call attacking a sovereign country for no reason "defense."

Safe homeland -- Sept. 11 happened after W had been "in charge" (those words need quotes) for NINE MONTHS.

The protection of liberty -- Well that one's laughable.

"Tempered by personal responsibility -- And this is the biggest joke of all.

"This whole notion that somehow I exceeded my authority here, was usurping his authority, is simply not true. It's an urban legend, never happened."

Yes, it's a cancer

And I can proudly say I've never set foot in a Wal-Mart.

Nor do I plan to. I'd rather go without.

W has Socialist ties

After all, didn't he give $350 billion to Wall Street (with nothing to show for it, I might add)?

The American people -- especially conservatives -- need to get comfortable with the idea of Socialism. There's nothing inherently wrong with it. Instead of an "every man for himself" mentality, Socialism is "let's share some of our wealth for the good of all." What's wrong with that?

Oh wait, it's because the wealth would go to those who actually need it -- the poor and middle class.

Can't have that. Nevermind.

The mind of a wing-nut works in mysterious ways

I just don’t get how a right-winger’s mind works:

“The only reason for closing Gitmo is to make leftists and some European countries feel better.” -- No, the reason to close it is because it was opened in order to get around our laws. Habeus Corpus is a fundamental right and in the name of the USA, we have decided that Arabs don’t deserve that right.

“That and they may just truly hate America.” – When in doubt, always repeat this tripe.

“Well I have seen firsthand the conditions in which these dangerous men live.” – As someone has already mentioned, when did she get the tour?

“. . .they have three medical personnel for EACH terrorist.” -– Yeah, that’s so we don’t accidentally kill them during torture. I feel better already, doctor.

“Because NO LAWS WERE BROKEN!” –- BECAUSE DICK & W DECIDED IT WOULD BE HANDY DANDY TO OPEN A PRISON WHERE WE DON’T HAVE TO OBEY U.S. LAWS.

“If Obama foolishly chooses to close Gitmo and ship radical jihadists to America, he is saying that our troops haven’t done their jobs,” –- WFT?

“. . .or worse, that they’ve committed atrocities.” – Let’s pretend this never happened and then it never really happened.

Again: I don't understand right-wingers' minds

You're either attracted to the opposite sex, or you're not.

You're either attracted to the same sex, or you're not.

Shades of gray:

You're attracted to both sexes, sometimes equally, sometimes not.

What's the big deal????
