@SueNJ97

"And, yet, the state contributes massive amounts of Federal taxes and gets sh*t-all back for it because, well, we support the Federal budget but apparently, we aren't worth investing in."

It's all going to Alaska.

@underanothername

"When a man can get pregnant, you can enter the discussion. Until then, sit down, and shut the fuck up!"

When a man can get pregnant, abortion will be the new plastic surgery.

@ New Deal Democrat

"Does this mean Obama is going to oppose the Paulson bailout plan - or at least work diligently to eliminate the "no oversight" provision of it?"

I was watching the news this a.m. -- local FOX channel -- and the reporter from D.C., Doug Luzader (sp?) said that Dems were going to make the bailout process more complicated and they would slow it down because they wanted to add oversight provisions.

I was laughing to myself and thinking, "Is that a bad thing?"

I love the way the media presents stories. The Repugs want to hand over $700 billion (and who thinks it won't be way more than that) with no oversight. The Dems are called the bad guys because they want some accountability.

Taxpayers, please pay attention!

Joe Biden

The fact that he's the second-"poorest" Senator should be a badge of honor. I mean, these wealthy politicians were either born into money, or they used their position to gather wealth.

Neither one of those options is exactly admirable.

So Joe, wear your "not-so-wealthy" badge with pride.

Kate Atkinson is one of my favorite writers

I have all her books, and I'm thrilled that she has a new one out featuring Jackson Brodie. I savor every moment spent reading her fiction.

Thanks for this book review!

Re: Poco

When I see that he's written something, I don't bother reading it.

Facts have never gotten in his way, so I gave up long ago to try reasoning with him.

@elephantman

"McCain has pivoted, and left Obama standing still."

And up is down; war is peace; green is purple. . .I get it: You're a Republican.

Someone on this site aptly renamed you Irrelevantman. Yup.

LOL.

My favorite comment of the evening. . .

. . .was Sarah Palin talking about her foreign policy experience because Alaska is surrounded by foreign countries.

Dearie, every country is bordered by another foreign country, unless you happen to live on an island.

The logic of her babbling just boggled my mind.

Thursday, October 2, 2008 05:59 AM

Couldn't she just have said. . .

"Let me instead give you an example of a ruling I agree with."

Oh wait, this is Sarah Palin we're talking about. Who couldn't name a single magazine she reads. (My guess: "People" and "US".)

Original article: McCain is all smiles today

@ Lev Raphael

You're absolutely correct about McSame and his phony smile.

Did anyone notice how he SMILED THROUGH THE ENTIRE DEBATE? I mean, his face muscles must have been killing him by the end of the evening.

And I don't think I've ever seen a phonier smile on anyone. Yes, rictus is the correct word.

Original article: Quote of the day

Listen everybody

"Carmina" is a Repug Troll, probably a guy being paid to "sound reasonable" while spouting absolute nonsense.

That"drinking the Kool-Aid" line: Who else but Repugs have been drinking Kool-Aid since Reagan? I mean, what we have right now is truly proof that (a) the trickle-down theory does NOT work and (b) unregulated markets mean rampant greed and eventual collapse.

Repugs have been guzzling the Kool-Aid for years and suddenly find that there's poison in it. Now they are trying desperately to say it's the Democrats who have poisoned the country. Absolute nonsense.

@ pubmax

LOL! That imagery is just wonderful on this rainy day. O.k., it's mean, but we all get to be mean after eight years of W.

Thursday, October 16, 2008 06:02 AM

@Opolitico

Yep. And one of them is me.

I know where my priorities lie, and so do quite a few Americans who are giving to Obama's campaign.

Why Bachman is in Congress

God told Michele Bachman's husband that she should run. (I kid you not!)

Obviously, this Stepford Wife is very good at following orders. She's great at repeating meaningless crap (must be her beauty queen training -- or am I being mean to pageant people?). That's why she was on T.V. spouting off her anti-American crap.

Remember her gushing and hugging W, unable to stop? Same person. Yeah, she's a credit to her race. Snark!

Giving to the poor

"The point, that has been lost in the subsequent discussion over images, was that Obama will 'take from the rich and give to the poor' and that we ALL would be buying food with his 'Obama Welfare Dollars.'"

Wow. Just wow. So taking from the rich and giving to the poor is something that's reprehensible? I guess it is if you're Republican.

I just can't get over these so-called Christians.

Wow.

Original article: Pat Buchanan yells boo!

Here's a column even Pat Buchanan couldn't have conceived of 8 years ago

Under George W. Bush and a Republican majority:

-The U.S. will be attacked using passenger planes because the president was too busy taking vacations and planning a war on Iraq to focus on Osama bin Laden -- despite warnings by the outgoing Clinton administration that he was dangerous.

-Based on lies, the U.S. will attack a sovereign nation. The war was promised to be short, but we will still be in Iraq at the end of the president's second term.

-For the first time in history, the U.S. will condone torture. It will set up a special prison where habeus corpus doesn't exist. It will secretly send prisoners to other countries to be tortured.

-The Administration will break numerous laws and then quickly write new laws allowing its lawlessness.

-Civil liberties and privacy will fly out the window, as people will be spied on, have their phones tapped, and be detained at the whim of the government.

-With all of the above going on, most people in the U.S. will be concerned about Britney Spears shaving her head and losing custody of her children.
