@swift goat

Amen to that!

I just don't get the American people. After 8 years of Republican rule, look at the state of the economy, the war in Iraq, the not-much-of-a-defense in Afghanistan, what's happening in Pakistan, what's happening in New Orleans, the state of our civil liberties. . .and on and on.

Look at what's happened to this country. How on earth can McCain have a lead in some states and be down just be a few points in others? It boggles my mind!

The Repugs should be drummed out of D.C., out of the country, if it were possible.

The Republican Party has ZERO credibility at this point, but look at all the Americans still cheering them on.

I just don't get it.

I'm German

and I would LOVE for Barack to stand in front of the Brandenburger Tor! More power to him!

And believe me, a politician's ego is the last thing I hold again him/her.

@Kickstarts

"Being fertile is not a medical problem"

I've heard this argument before, and here's what I have to counter it:

Insurance cos pay for all kinds of vaccinations and "preventative medicine." I don't want to say that pregnancy is a disease, but it's a condition some women (all women) want some choice over when it happens to them. Pregnancy is a very serious condition that does serious things to a woman's body/health, not to mention that the result is a new human being to be raised. So it's a huge deal that women want the choice of saying when it should happen to their bodies.

It's not a medical problem, but it's definitely a medical condition with huge consequences. Much bigger consequences than "not being able to get it up." And yet, insurance cos will reimburse men for meds to "get it up." I find the discrepancy there disgusting.

@Robert Franklin

"Where is all that money for defense ($630B/year) going if this is the most we can do and why aren't journalists asking?"

It's going to private contractors -- Halliburton and its subsidiaries.

And why aren't journalists asking? Because they're bought and paid for.

Yeah, the W years have made me cynical as hell.

Original article: New MoveOn ad: "Timeline"

@debpet

"Improving...so what?"

Amen to that! I, too, am tired of hearing Repugs sneering, "The Left is only happy if we lose in Iraq." No, I'm not happy. I never thought we'd actually lose. BUT WE NEVER SHOULD HAVE GONE THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE.

Of course we will "win" eventually. There was never any doubt about that. Even if it's the same kind of "winning" we had in Vietnam. The politicians will make a good case of how important it was to invade Iraq (as they've been trying for years).

So far, we've won:

(1) thousands of U.S. soldiers dead and tens of thousands (or more) of Iraqi civilians dead;

(2) more recruits and potential recruits for Al Qaeda and other terrorist groups than we ever thought possible;

(3) the disdain (best case) or hatred (worst case -- see #2) of the people of the world;

(4) the worst government deficit ever.

Luckily, we've also won:

(5) humongous profits for Halliburton subsidiaries; and

(6) gas prices still lower than what the rest of the world is paying.

Once again: WE NEVER SHOULD HAVE INVADED IRAQ.

This just shows perfectly. . .

. . . how very much on the defensive the McBush campaign is.

I love it!

Original article: Hang up and drive

Wonderful article!

I'm somebody who can't stand being in the driver's seat when there are passengers in the car. Why? Because I know I don't concentrate properly when somebody is talking to me.

When I first learned to drive, I was in the car with my boyfriend and I ran two stop signs. Luckily, there was no traffic on the road, but I quickly realized that talking and driving are not things to be done at the same time.

I am constantly amazed at people chatting away on their cell phones in heavy traffic. Do these people not realize that driving a car equals operating an extremely dangerous piece of equipment -- you can be killed in an instant, and lots of people are.

First and foremost: be attentive when driving. I don't want to take away your rights to do anything, but I do want to get to my destination safely. Thank you!

Original article: McCain's silver lining

Cocky? (2)

Yeah, W can strut around like a bow-legged peacock and he's "everyman." But having a black man "look presidential" -- well he's just uppity.

Enough of this crap! The Democrats need to pound in the fact that Repugs have ruined everything in this country. The past eight years have brought joy only to billionaires.

Repeat repeat repeat. Maybe then, more Murcans might actually vote for an uppity black man.

Original article: Introducing Tim Pawlenty?

@Rosenkavalier

I agree, Pawlenty's totally screwed up Minnesota.

Unfortunately, I believe that those Americans who don't know him (and there are some Minnesotans left in that category) will see a handsome, youthful face and hear what sounds like an intelligent man talking.

They truly don't know that behind that smile is an evil man. They'll just think he's charming.

My take on this. . .

I don't know all the ins and outs of legal maneuvering, but I sure would wait until after the election to do any of this.

I know, the White House et al will be destroying all kinds of documents come January 09 (if they haven't already). However, I DON'T want any of these crooks to get a presidential pardon.

Let's wait till January, folks.

Original article: White House ordered forgery

@ Slackie O

"my party, right or wrong."

You're completely right. But what chaps my butt is my Republican neighbor, who now goes around saying "ALL politicians are corrupt." Absolutely won't admit that Repugs have gone off the deep, deep end.
