I'll say one thing
[Read the article: Fact of the day]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Reading the letters here and elsewhere in Salon, there's a lot of passion for your candidate -- be it Clinton or Obama.
All the name-calling and back-and-forth was irking me, but then I remembered 2004. I was for Edwards, but everybody talked about how electable Kerry was because of his military record. So we had a candidate most of us were lukewarm about.
This year, there's passion!
Hey, is anybody passionate about McCain? Only the diehard Repugs who care only about their money, or the diehard Repugs who would never vote anything but Repug no matter how much it goes against their interests.
So: Glory be to all the passion for our candidates!

@ jebldmm
[Read the article: It's beginning to look a lot like the general election]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"Sorry, It's too late for me. . . He won't get my vote."
You are a small man.
This kind of thinking got us 8 years of W & Co.
But hey, you're pissed off and you've got your pride. So don't let what's best for the country get in your way.

@bilhelm
[Read the article: United Mine Workers endorses Obama]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"I thought Kentucky was coal mine central. Whatever."
I've posted this previously, but KY is extremely racist. One of my coworkers -- an extremely intelligent guy -- told me flat out that he would never vote for a black man, and he didn't know of anyone in KY who would. [Obviously, there are a few.]
His reason was that a black man would have his own agenda, and that would mainly be working FOR blacks. An interesting reason, but (a) would that be so horrible if blacks in the U.S. became "more equal," and (b)unfortunately, blue collar conservatives routinely vote for Republicans and against their own interests. So an administration that's working AGAINST you is what's been happening in the last 8 years -- unless you're a corporate billionaire.

Hey
[Read the article: Quote of the day]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]In the words of our famous Moron-in-Chief:
"Bring it on!"
I don't care how many "unsavory" characters Obama is friends with. Hammer this message over and over into Americans' brains:
What have the Republicans done to this country in the last eight years?
Bring it on, indeed!

Here's what I didn't like about David A
[Read the article: Finale wrap-up: "American Idol"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]David Archuleta has been pimped out for most of his life. Who saw that clip of him singing for Kelly Clarkson et al sometime around the first season? He was around 10 years old, and his father was already dragging him around to give him "exposure."
Sorry, but the last thing this kid needs is exposure. He's unbelievably shy and incoherent. Another poster earlier said it best: David A should have been applying to music school or college right now, not auditioning for AI.
Everybody says, "But he's so young." Well, don't you think it would have been way better for him to wait a year or two or three before auditioning for AI? But daddy apparently couldn't take the chance that AI would be cancelled by then, so as soon as the rules allowed, there he was.
You could tell by the way he sang every single song the same that he was way too immature for this. A 20-year-old David A might have been a true winner on AI. This way, not so much.

@ Robot
[Read the article: Doc says Obama's in "excellent health"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"I'm sure his health is not a problem."
As opposed to John McCain, whose health AND age are a problem. (Plus many other things too numerous to mention here.)
-
I agree with the first two letters
[Read the article: Obama's vetting problem]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]There's plenty of time, so start from scratch and find someone to replace Johnson.
Also, Johnson has picked losers -- once again, start from scratch.
-
I just like
[Read the article: Debating debates]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I just like the fact that Obama is not letting McCain jerk him around.
I don't want ANYBODY to cut the Repugs and slack.

@kufir77
[Read the article: MoveOn, AFSCME hit McCain on Iraq]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"The US has been in Germany since WWII. Wow, what an atrocity. Any idiot knows McCain does not want 100 years of war, he's talking about the US maintaining military bases in Iraq, which is a smart strategic move, particularly with Iran acting a fool and the whole psychosis of the Middle East. There are hundreds of US bases all over the world, and most governments have no problem with that."
Um, I'm German, and let me tell you I did not and do not appreciate American soldiers in my country. Nor did I appreciate French and British soldiers there.
But the point of my letter is this: I believe one of the main reasons we attacked Iraq is to build military bases there. Sorry, in my book, THAT's an atrocity. The U.S. has sunk low, indeed.

I thinks it's great
[Read the article: The new racist, anti-Obama fashion statement]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]This just exposes the cretins.
In the words of our um. . .idiot leader: "Bring it on!"
-
Well, TOUGH TITTY!
[Read the article: MoveOn, AFSCME hit McCain on Iraq]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Oh oh, somebody be upset. Must have it a nerve. Calm down, little bitty boy!

What would be more appropriate
[Read the article: A "fitting monument" for Dubya]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]would be taking "W" and naming it for something similar to "santorum." It's actually even more appropriate in W's case.
P.S. For those of you who don't know what santorum is, I won't go into it. Just let me say it's not pretty.

Supreme Court rules "millionaire's amendment" unconstitutional
[Read the article: Supreme Court rules "millionaire's amendment" unconstitutional]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I read that headline and thought, "Finally, SCOTUS has done something right." Poor delusional me, I thought they'd voted in favor of the little guy and against big money.
I was wrong, of course. Just another undisguised nod to the Rich. Class war? When will Americans wake up? This administration and all its attendants -- Supreme Court justices, in this case -- are waging a blatant class war but nobody seems to notice or care.
Others above have said it well:
“. . .’free speech’ and ‘free expenditure’ are the same thing. . .”
“The more money you have the more free speech you have?”

McCain leading
[Read the article: Tuesday's campaign roundup]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]McCain leading in Georgia, Florida, Alabama.
Hmm. I have a co-worker in Kentucky who swears neither he nor anybody he knows would ever vote for a black man.
Gotta love those southern states.
Of course, there's NO racism in this country.
-
I'm sorry,
[Read the article: McCain plays dumb]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]but didn't anybody else get a chuckle out of the headline:
"McCain Plays Dumb."
Come on, that one's so obvious! But let me say it anyway:
"Plays dumb? He's not playing."
