  • Playing games...

[Read the article: Did Bush ask Scott McClellan to lie -- or didn't he?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I don't know why everyone wants to play silly games. We all know Bush ordered the outing of Plame, even if it can't necessarily be proved. In any case proving it proves nothing except that Bush is a congenital liar, which we all know anyway.

Can't we just take it as a given that this was one of the many crimes of the current administration and get on the with business of sweeping their party out of power for a generation, or preferably for ever so that they have no more chance of assuming power than the Federalists or the Whigs.

I simply refer you back to my Salon letter dated July 12th 2007, link shown, and reproduced below:

Why then has the president failed to apologize to them on behalf of himself, his staff and the government of the United States?

Are you just pretending you don't know? Bush and Cheney cooked up a load of half-baked reasons for invading Iraq mainly because they felt it would be politically popular, and because Saddam Hussein was a global bogeyman and a public relations disaster, probably deservedly so. Iraq also had lots of oil, which you may have noticed we use quite a bit here to run our SUVs.

The "Iraq will give terrorists nukes if we don't get in there" line was one of these strategies.

Joe Wilson, no doubt at the instigation of his wife, publicly contradicted the party line, thus making the President and Vice President extremely angry. They therefore ordered their henchmen to blame Plame and do the dirty on the Wilsons in whatever way they could.

    Was that so difficult?

  • How about...

[Read the article: The divine sound of silence]

... a No Christmas Music Month. It could start at Thanksgiving.

Personally I stay out of stores as much as possible especially around Christmas. Internet shopping has the benefit of being music free.

I hate it when I am in a store and I hear a piece of music that I like. This hardly ever happens, but when it does I feel violated.

Fortunately Benny Goodman and Charlie Barnet numbers don't seem to sell stuff, so they are relatively safe from desecration.

A No TV Year in airports would be a good thing. I guess CNN must pay the airports a lot of money to be allowed to narrowcast to people who otherwise don't watch TV while they are waiting to board planes to destinations out of range of English language broadcasting.

  • VP grammar

[Read the article: Did Bush ask Scott McClellan to lie -- or didn't he?]

Speaking of language, it's telling that when Cheney crossed out "this Pres." he changed it to "the guy that was asked...", not "the guy WHO was asked". My point is that people are mere things to this crowd, pawns to be moved around and discarded at will.

Of course he should have written "WHOM was asked", but to him pronouns are just mere nominatives, and who cares about special cases?

  • Turning off?

[Read the article: Why Machinist's comments are turned off]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I don't think you would want to turn off the comments because they must form a large part of Salon's strategy for getting a large number of hits and selling advertising space.

Anyhow, any complaint means that someone has read or partially read something you have written, which must be gratifying.

By going straight to the letters you are still creating hits on pages that carry advertising.
