"Your hate has made you powerful, now fulfill your destiny..."
[Read the article: Kansas O'Flaherty ... Secret Agent]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I'm fascinated that readers are initiating a letter writing campaign to advertisers based on the sheer suckiness of this strip. It is an extreme step, but probably the only one that will have an effect.
Another thing that readers could do is to become stockholders in Salon and then complain. Salon Media Group is a publicly traded company that trades under the symbol SLNM for about $1.60 a share.
It does not speak well of this publication that readers have felt the need to take this step. If the editors had run some explanation, editorial or otherwise addressed the readers' criticisms in some way, then people probably wouldn't have felt the need to do this. Many papers have ombudspersons who are employed to address the concerns of the readership. At Salon, we only have the letters section, the occasional red star and the blogging of the editors. That forum, clearly, has been insufficient in this case.
By choosing to not only disregard, but to outright ignore readers' concerns, Salon has damaged its brand. Management and stockholders should take note.

You said it!
[Read the article: Why I hate partner yoga]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Thank you for speaking out against this filthy, awkward trend in yoga classes that I also have observed, and thank you for helping to clarify what is so unpleasant about it.

While we're discussing polls...
[Read the article: Setting the South Carolina bar]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Can somebody tell me what John Edwards is still doing in this race (besides keeping HRC in first place)?
I don't mean the candidate any disrespect. I think he would have been the most electable and most progressive candidate, but realistically the contest is over. He's running at 15% in South Carolina and 10% nationally. If he couldn't win Iowa and/or South Carolina he can't win anywhere, barring any meltdown or emergency by one of the two main candidates.
Edwards needs to bow out gracefully next week or else he will hand this election to Mrs. Walmart on Super Tuesday.

@mattielisbon
[Read the article: Setting the South Carolina bar]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I’m not sure which poll you are looking at, but you might want to follow this link:
http://www.pollster.com/08-SC-Dem-Pres-Primary.php
You can see that this is an aggregation of the many polls (not just from one source) and by all estimations Edwards will come in 3rd in SC.
Certainly Edwards has a right to run, just as Nader did. My point is, I don’t think it is a good idea to continue the campaign as this point. Edwards cannot win and therefore must drop out and endorse Obama or else we can all buckle up for another losing presidential campaign by a DLC “Democrat”.
I don’t know how things were done “back in the day”, but these are the dynamics of our current situation.

@ Anonymous
[Read the article: This Modern World]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Anonymous writes:
"the right hates Hillary but they've been after her for years so it won't get any worse and the evidence suggests she might win"
Apparently, anonymous, you are both a coward (for writing as anonymous) AND a fool. The Right has been after her for years, yes, but this was as a first lady and a Senator from left leaning New York State. In both cases, those are pretty insulated offices. In fact, first lady isn't even a proper office, but a simple matter of marital happenstance. And STILL they have been slavering for her blood. The Right haven't been able to tear her down because they haven't had anywhere to drag her down to. They couldn't impeach her as a first lady (though they made a good try with the husband) and New York State is a pretty safe space for Dems. Wait until, God forbid, she gets nominated and then you will see just what they are capable of and how much worse it can get. Wisdom suggests that she cannot win.

It's a real shame
[Read the article: Punch-drunk Rudy]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Giuliani would have easy to beat in a general election. Ah well, at least the Flip Flopping Mormon Romneybot is still in the race. Who let the dogs out? Woof, woof!

Come to the Light, Joan Walsh
[Read the article: Obama and the Kennedy legend]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Whatever blowback Bill Clinton may or may not have caused in the South Carolina primary, it is clear that his Back to the Future mudslinging had blowback in the larger context. Whatever Senator Kennedy's impact may be, it is proof that Democrats, even very powerful, prominent Democrats, are sick of business as usual.
The criticisms of Obama supporters as religous zealots and the criticism of the candidate himself as lacking substance are inaccurate, unfair, and smack of the establishment cynicism that the former president displayed in South Carolina.
It is not that Barack Obama has no policy statements, it is that he chooses in a public forum to put the emphasis on emotion. Hillary Clinton does the same thing, but where she chooses shelter from negative affect (safety, familiarity), he chooses direct positive affect (change, hope). In this he reflects another politician, one who also defied the conventional wisdom (that a Catholic could not be president), and who represented ideals larger than himself, embodying the hopes of a nation.
Joan, it is time for you and Salon to take a stand, follow Senator Kennedy's lead and endorse Barack Obama for president. Prove to us what we readers know and believe--that Salon is an online publication for the twenty first century and not a throwback to the excesses of the dot-com 90s.

Good luck stealing the Kennedy Thunder
[Read the article: Who's Hillary Clinton's supersecret special mystery endorser?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]It's ambitious of the former first lady to try to take the sting out of the one-two Kennedy blow she received yesterday and try to take advantage of a new news cycle, but I doubt she'll have much success. Maybe she's rounded up a couple more C-list Kennedys...

CT Voter's probably right...
[Read the article: Who's Hillary Clinton's supersecret special mystery endorser?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I suspect it will be one or more of Pelosi, Feinstein and/or Boxer. She's trying to shore up the big delegate California vote for Tuesday.
