Elephantman - Rachel Corrie Was a True American Heroine

[Read more letters about this article: Here]Of all the smear campaigns the Zionists and the Israel Lobby frequently engage in (Jimmy Carter, Desmond Tutu, Nelson Mandela, Daniel Barenboim, etc), I find the attacks on the memory of Rachel Corrie the most distastful. Fortunately, the 23-year-old American peace activist - who was crushed to death by a bulldozer as she tried to prevent the Israeli army from destroying homes in the Gaza Strip - tells us in her own words -through her emails to her mother- why she was in Gaza, protecting Plaestinian families from the Israeli army that was bulldozing their homes and green houses. Her words are the perfect response to any smear campaign by the people who support ethnic cleansing, murder of civilians and apartheid.
"Love you. Really miss you. I have bad nightmares about tanks and bulldozers outside our house and you and me inside.... I am really scared for the people here. Yesterday, I watched a father lead his two tiny children, holding his hands, out into the sight of tanks and a sniper tower and bulldozers and Jeeps because he thought his house was going to be exploded....This is in the area where Sunday about 150 men were rounded up and contained outside the settlement with gunfire over their heads and around them, while tanks and bulldozers destroyed 25 greenhouses - the livelihoods for 300 people....I was terrified to think that this man felt it was less of a risk to walk out in view of the tanks with his kids than to stay in his house. I was really scared that they were all going to be shot and I tried to stand between them and the tank. This happens every day, but just this father walking out with his two little kids just looking very sad, just happened to get my attention more at this particular moment", probably because I felt it was our translation problems that made him leave."

You can be sure the Noeocons/Israel Lobby will push for this war to continue, until the last American soldier, using any possible excuse.

In fact, if it wasn't for the stand of the EU and Congress -although Congress cannot really be trusted when it comes to resisting pressure from the Israel Lobby - we would already be fighting Iran and helping bring more "stability" to Israel (Oops I meant the Middle East)!

On the eve of Israel's independence day, the Israeli army killed nine Palestinians, including a 17-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy in raids on Palestinian towns and villages (http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/852315.html). This is after a period of calm and diplomatic activity to re-start the peace process. A hell of a way to celebrate (and sabotage any peace efforts)!
Also, are you aware that Palestinians refer to the same day as the "Catastrophe" because 750,000 of them were ethnically cleansed in 1948 to make room for European Jews in Palestine? These Palestinian refugees and their descendants were never allowed to return in spite of UN resolutions that call for Israel to allow them to do so.
Also, are you aware that Israel imposes a "complete closure" of the big prisons called the West Bank and Gaza (i.e. completely locks the gates on millions of Palestinians)during independence day and other Israeli holidays?
You must be very proud of Israel's Independence Day! (almost as proud as you are of the neocons and their war in Iraq)
