That is the most egregious example of "missing the whole point" I have seen in a while.
There's a willful ignorance in play-- not the evil stupidity of some of the right-tard posters here--, but it's pretty breathtaking.
The point is simple: Fred Kagan and his pudgy ass face are declaring an end to a civil war whose very existence they refused to acknowledge-- just as a payola-fueled cease-fire ends and all Hell breaks loose. For heaven's sake, two Americans were killed INSIDE the Green Zone from the outside. It is an indirect declaration of "victory" for the Surge in the face of current reality on the ground. Not that you can declare "victory" in an OCCUPATION... can you? What IS "victory" in such a situation?
Taking the easy defeat of Saddam Hussein as anything other than the normal result of overwhelming firepower on an essentially unarmed enemy-- well, that's just delusion. It's like opening a grocery bag with twenty pounds of TNT. Would you call that skill?!
Others have documented the fact that the Surge's beginning comes AFTER the violence started dropping noticeably-- and it was al-Sadr's call for a cease-fire that brought that about. And the US has been paying off insurgent forces as well to not pick up arms. The Surge has NOT worked. And this new violence will only ensure that Bush keeps our soldiers in harm's way. Forever, if McInsane has his way.
What symbolism.
The senator of a state that is a shining example of America's past, endorsing a senator who embodies America's present and, if certain people allow it, America's future.
But I fear that the very people clutching for dear life to that vision of America's past won't allow progress. Like they've been preventing it for so many years now.
I think once people can actually dig past the Traditional Media's smokescreen, they will see McCain for what he is: absolutely unfit to lead a Tempe-area Moose Lodge, let alone the United States.
I'm just waiting for his famous temper to flare up during a debate. Please please PLEASE, make sure a moderator can ask a question (say, about the Keating Five) good enough to make the old fart blow a head gasket. Now THAT would be good TV!
Don't forget the moral problems: Came back from Vietnam and started banging anything with a vagina as long as it wasn't attached to his no-longer-stunning first wife, after she was disfigured in a car accident. Married one of his stable of gals willing to help him commit adultery-- coincidentally, she's rich as all git-out.
(Memo to McCain: Yeah, she's a "trollop"-- after all, she willingly let you f*ck her while you were married; but I'd be very careful about calling your Akita-eyed blonde meal ticket a "c*nt" when she's holding the checkbook that keeps you in luxury homes and private jets.)
You're correct in pointing out that his policy positions won't stand up to half a minute's scrutiny. But let's list his personal weaknesses: Stupid, incurious, ego-driven, absolutely intolerant of anything less than slavish adoration of His Royal Highness....
Let's sum it up with this: He's George W. Bush with an actual military background. And not a very good one; sixth-to-last in his graduating class, wasn't it? Destroyed four planes while learning to fly, right?
Sounds like Bill the Cat's campaign slogan from good ol' "Bloom County":
This time, why not the WORST?!
You really think that George Stephanopoulos and Charles Gibson and all the rest of the monied chattering class of sh!t-flinging press monkeys CARE about what Americans think? Or do? Or whether we live or die?
How sweet of you. You naïve young man.
Don't you know that THE MEDIA will tell you what to care about?

And as for Barack Obama's speech: ROCK ON, BARACK!!!
The very thought that anyone would decide their vote for a national political leader on whether or not they wear a flag pin on their lapel makes me doubt my sanity.
Nash McCabe, you simply prove that the Right Wing's forty-year mission of turning the American electorate into complete drolling morons is just about complete.
And ABC/Disney, as willing participants in subverting the American political process with misinformation, obfuscation, lying and general inanity, all I can say is: You suck donkey whang for quarters. You deserve all the scorn being heaped upon you. Although, as we all know, you don't care.
But what's worst of all this? It's the very fact that the Traditional Media have decided that THEY will tell us exactly what to think and what to care about-- and we've let them do exactly that. It's appalling and awful.
Oh, and W.E.S.? Your girl's fucked it up-- well, her and her husband Bubba (I, for one, don't think Bill Clinton walks on water-- I'll never forgive him for DADT, DOMA, Welfare Reform, NAFTA, and every other time he caved to the Right simply because HE HAD TO SAY HE WON ONE). Once you let ego and a sense of entitlement rule your every action and word, you've lost the war. Get over it and move on.
