Some quick points to ponder:

-- The most rabid opponents of gay marriage are mostly upset that homosexuality is not illegal, punishable by death. Luckily they are an extremely small minority of the opposing "team". The vast majority are just intellectually and morally lazy fools who are easily swayed by "religious" arguments about homosexuality being a mortal sin. Why the normally expansive, welcoming souls of the African-American churches in the US have embraced the anti-gay posturing of the Psycho Religious Right is beyond me. How soon they forget that gays and lesbians marched with them in the Civil Rights marches in the 60s. How soon they ignore the "words of Jesus" they're so quick to quote you. How quick they say "Jesus condemns homosexuality", when the truth is that Jesus says not one syllable about it (the Paul who wrote the Epistles in the New Testament didn't even KNOW Jesus-- had never met him).

-- If progressives would just take a few minutes to engage some of those mouth-breathers in a conversation with some salient points, a light might go on in the dim recesses of their minds:

-- If gays and lesbians were allowed to enter into marriage contracts on an equal footing with straight couples (TWO consenting adults agreeing to abide by the legal responsibilities of caring for one another, in exchange for certain rights and privileges afforded married couples), HOW does it harm YOU? Think about it; what damage does it do to YOU?

-- Without citing the Bible, what then is your argument against gays and lesbians entering into marriage/civil union contracts, which are LEGAL arrangements? (NOTE: This one will make the real wingnuts' heads explode, so take cover.)

-- From a standpoint of pure politics, the timing of this judgment is not great. However (this one's for Tim Grieve), listen to yourself when you express that thought; you're saying, "Well, I believe in equality and fairness and stuff for you-- but not now. Get to the back of the bus, we'll let you know when it's convenient for us to grant you the rights we 'normal' people have. We'll get to you at some point. No, really we will." That's as good as saying, "Justice and fairness are doled out at the sole discretion of the people in power, and it's just not your turn. It might be-- if it's politically safe." That's purely undemocratic.

-- This judgment really changes nothing until Federal law mandates that civil unions be recognized nationwide. My partner and I still can't file joint Federal income tax, can we? If, gods forbid, we move to some regressive Neanderthal state like Tennessee, our California domestic partnership wouldn't amount to a hill of beans. There's so much work to do, and I'll say it: Some stupid old white guys have to drop dead and get out of our way for the country to make any real progress in this, and so many other, areas.

As soon as this tool stated the ridiculous meme that the Iraq Debacle was launched to get that Bad Man Saddam Hussein out of power and bring Democracy and Freedom (tm) to the Iraqi people, I knew we were once more dancing into the WaPo's Bizarro World.

And the self-documented self-destruction of the MSM continues. Why these fools aren't leaving the profession out of abject shame over their participation in the dismantling of the US Government is beyond me.

Has anyone noticed that since a bunch of rich white Southern men started running the American government, everything has turned to shit?! Or that, when a sound bite of rare stupidity is uttered, it's usually from the mouth of a Southerner?!

Isn't it time for the rest of the country-- where most of us live-- to take the government back? And send these yahoos back home on the short yellow bus? PLEASE?!
