Glad You Asked, NCSteve!

Well, why was the Civil Rights Act of 1964 voted on and made law, when politicians KNEW it would deliver the racist South into the hands of the Republican Party?

Because IT WAS THE RIGHT THING TO DO. IT WAS THE FAIR THING TO DO.

Sometimes the right thing to do isn't politically expedient. Sometimes it's just fair and just and CORRECT.

But we second-class citizens of the LGBTQ community will never know of such benevolence in the United States. We will never be worthy of true equality. Not if we have to wait for people to vote on it.

Need I remind people that, if the citizens of the US had been allowed to vote for interracial marriage in 1967 (the time of the Lovings vs. Virginia Supreme Court decision), it would probably have been made illegal? Nearly 70% of the US population was against interracial marriage back then.

Of course, the Supreme Court wasn't stacked with religious nutjobs and fascists back then.

Nope. Equality for us gays and lesbians will NEVER be the Law of the Land in the US. Not while Christianists hold any power.

And the Depth of the Hatred of Gays in Fundamentalist Black Churches Is Revealed!

Yes, it's an uncomfortable, upsetting fact.

There are a great many people in the US who would just like the LGBTQ community to GO AWAY. By any means necessary. God smiting us, the government rounding us up and Doing Something (wink wink).... Whatever it takes.

Well, we're not going away.

And the LGBTQ community was, and continues to be, fully supportive of the civil rights movement as it strives to achieve full equality for African-Americans.

Too bad the fundamentalists won't see their way to reciprocating our truly "Christian" generosity. The hypocisy is sickening.

Let's Hear It for the Little Lady...!

I guess we're supposed to be so besotten by her winsome prettiness, we don't notice the torrent of lies and stupidity issuing forth from her precious little lips...!

Oh, for that wonderful day in the future when a White House spokesperson can say something in public and everyone knows they're NOT lying!

Yeah, There Are a Lot of Smart People FROM Iowa...

But it seems the smart ones are "from" Iowa-- that is, they LEFT. Like smart people "from" Mississippi. And Nebraska. And Alabama. And Kentucky. And....

And what's left in these states?! Mouthbreathing morons like Steve King. And Mitch "Smear a Brain-Injured 12-Year-Old" McConnell.

I'm tired of the rest of the country having to suffer these idiot yokels and their evil reigns of terror.

If I NEVER hear another Southern accent or flat Midwestern honk from a government official (FULL DISCLOSURE: I was born in southern Louisiana), it will be too soon.

Please Stop Beating Around the Bush, Mr. Lewis...

Tell us what you REALLY think about Duh-bya!!!

In all seriousness-- well-said, 100% agree. Giuliani's a craven scumbag and happily co-opting all of W's failed policies-- but at least he doesn't call that Texas shithole called Crawford his home.

So Now the REAL Fred Thompson Is Coming into View...

Not just the mediocre actor with the trophy second wife with the ginormous cans (thanks to Stephanie Miller for the choice description!), but the moron Republican.

If his little amendment had been the law of the land in 1967, interracial marriage would probably STILL be illegal in most of the South.

Fred better learn to shut his ugly pie hole the hell up once in a while, lest he stick his corn- and bunion-covered foot in it too many times. What happens when someone brings up his embarassing role in the Watergate scandal...? This is going to be delicious, I can tell.

A somewhat off-topic rant now: Why does ANYONE care what some old asshole in Iowa thinks, anyway? Why does ANYONE think it's acceptable that the MSM pass off intolerance, stupidity and sponging off the wealthier coastal states as "old-fashioned American values"?! Why are my tax dollars going to support these idiots?

Maybe I'm Just Naïve....

But if God is on Bush's side, why is the war going so badly? If the Divine One has our back, why do our fighting forces suffer such horrible casualties? Shouldn't God be magically healing soldiers' amputated limbs/brain injuries/shattered psyches?

Oh, I forgot-- it's because the US doesn't execute them homosexuals.

Keep banging the drum, Glenn. Keep speaking truth to power, and keep calling out the black souls of the Corporate Media. You're doing the real Lord's Work!!

It's Not Just Hypocrisy, Remember....

It's not just Vitter's obscene moralizing in the matter of Bill Clinton's (stupid but) consensual affair with Monica Lowinsky (and the "perjury" charge against Bill doesn't really stick, does it, since the lie concerned an issue that wasn't illegal?).

It's that ol' Davy solicited prostitutes. Even in Louisiana that's ILLEGAL. HE BROKE THE LAW. IN LOUISIANA AND THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.

But it's OK, you know? He went and confessed (he's a "good Catholic", you see), and he said his ten Hail Marys and dropped a little cash in the "Alms" box, and he's "forgiven".

It's all so nauseating. And one of the reasons I thank my lucky stars that I had the good sense to move the hell away from Louisiana while I had the chance. Just cuz I was born there doesn't mean I would be so stupid as to stay.

Well, It Just Proves My Point....

In the South, the good ones get out as soon as they can. So are we surprised that what's left is so awful?

I'm originally from Louisiana, so this doesn't surprise me at all. Political shenanigans are the norm in that state. But this loser's blatant, in-your-face Christian holier-than-thou moralizing makes me want to vomit.

But you know, it's OK, 'cause he had a talk with God and He forgave him. And his wife forgave him (how's that forgiveness going today, Dave?). So it's all fine.

My real question is: WHY, when we see that nothing good comes from letting right-wing white Southerners anywhere near the reins of power, do we keep letting them run things?!?!?

Can't we just cut the South loose? Just admit the Civil War was a mistake, and let the South become the third-world banana republic those Fundamentalist Christian mouth-breathers deserve? The rest of the country will blaze forward progressively, and the South will beg to be re-admitted to the Union-- and we'll refuse. Sounds like Paradise, doesn't it?
