Its totally f---ing great that Democrats are committing themselves to preventing immunity, but what about standing up for individualized warrants? Not to mention the host of other terrible parts of the current FISA bill.
I'll be satisfied when Dodd et. al. say that they'll filibuster any FISA legislation that doesn't mandate individualized warrants, includes immunity, includes any provisions for "black-bag jobs", or otherwise violates the Constitution and our right to privacy.
I heard Senator Kit Bond say something to the effect of:
"Telcos did nothing wrong, nothing illegal, they don't need amnesty. We should therefore give them legal immunity for breaking the law. Requiring (retroactive) warrants makes intelligence gathering impossible, we will be flying blind!"
He then scolded people who oppose the bill as being "lacking in knowledge."
How do these people sleep at night?
