Faludi...

Has never really been all that thoughtful or willing to allow facts to get in the way of making as provocative a point as will sell a book or an idea.

To say that girls gone wild represents some sort of modern empowerment or sex positive expression to young women is in itself a sexist and condescending a statement.

The sad fact is...

That the Democratic convention has not gone well. Hillary and Bill's speaches did essentially what they were supposed to do, but shunting B Clinton from speaking on the economy and so many other missteps and poor packaging have made the convention a bust.

And except for the Clinton years, this is exactly what has been the Democrats achylles heal. They have better ideas and more competent people, but suck at packaging and selling them. On the other hand, Reagan showed how stupid and bad ideas can be packaged well and sold.

Let's hope the Republicans completely fall aprt on their convention.

The funny thing...

Is that based on experience alone, if you say Palin doesn't have enough then you have to admit that neither does Obama.

The measure we should be pushing is "ABILITY." Neither McCain nor Palin have the ABILITY to be effective presidents.

Well...

The point is that now the Obama people need to address the issue that Obama is failing as a candidate and he needs to radically improve his performance. The problem with that is whether he is listening and has the advisors with the understanding and ability to make that happen because Obama lacks the experience to do it.

Good riddence

As a liberal I didn't like either Mathews or Olbermann. They are both egomaniacal propagandists. Bring in the journalists, please.

As I have said before, the answer is not to out propagandize Fox. Two wrongs don't make a right. We need to get back to good journalism and not run away from it because the facts are on our side--otherwise we are wrong.

Hey

What ever happened to Obama's massive money advantage?

Seems he is being inundated by McCain ads and not responding.

What happened to the fifty state strategy?

Seems as if he is getting beat all over the place.

Where is the full court press that should be burying McCain right now?

As things are going, Democrats risk losing Congress as well as the White House.

Where the hell is Obama with his promised campaign?

Original article: Obama's money troubles

Fundraising and campaigning are two destinct things...

As Obama learned when he got burned by his God and guns quote.

The fact of the matter is that even if Obama were to get all of the money he needs, his campaign is still being beaten badly on message. Lackluster fundraising is just one more symptom of what Obama lacks--experience and the ability to sink his teeth into the race and fight for it. Elections are not intellectual exercises and Obama needs to wake up to that fact.

In all, he has it very easy in all of his previous campaigns and now he has to fight for it and he isn't.

Original article: New heights of stupidity

Yeah this is stupid...

Reminds me of all the stupid crap the Obama campaign accused Hillary of and how the media blindly fell over themselves to report it all.

Or maybe since Obama depended on this crap to win the nomination we shouldn't be all that surprised when it is turned on him.

Again, he needs to start fighting to win this thing or else it's president McCain.

To Clockwork Smurf

You hit the nail on the head. Anyone with any campaign strategy experience and sense would have advised him to ignore the bridge and all the other nuanced crap and strike at the heart of the matter--her selection shows a lack of consideration and shows how rash and irresponsible McCain is.

Palin

Seems to stupid and psychotic (see the Newsweek story on the court telling her stop harassing her sister's ex husband) to know when she is telling the truth or lying.

Original article: Drill, baby, drill

Because...

For some reason congressional Democrats are unbelievably cowardly and see risk around every corner. This is because they don't know what they are fighting for other than the ability to remain in power and Obama hasn't given them any bold policy proposals or ideas to form around.

Both ads are useless

Neither ad is in any way going to be effective. In fact, given all that has happened over the past two weeks, they are the worst I have ever seen for a presidential race. They are amateurish to the nth degree.

When the hell is Obama going to shut up and say something. By that I mean stop with the hyper-general rhetoric and say something of substance that alternately cuts your opponent and boosts your image sharply.

To Pacificwhim

I agree with you. What you are talking about is a plan and a campaign narrative that pushes the other guys negatives and Obama's positives. To date it has all been reactive and ad hoc with no defining message or hard hitting criticisms that put McCain (or better -- Palin) on their heels and on the defensive.

I live in NH and have consulted campaigns up here for Democrats against lying right wingers and the one piece of advice I give is that you have to put your heal on their throats and not let up until after your second term. That is the only way to really get the attention of the voters and show that you are actually fighting for something.

Obama so far has shown no signs of life or that he gets it.
