If we are to save ourselves from becoming the Fouth Reich, we need to move on a criminal government that in no way resembles the one described for America in our Constitution and which has lost the affection and respect of the world's decent peoples.
.
In the past, it was the job of the opposition party to realign official misbehavior of rogue incumbents. Over the past seven years -- the past two with a majority of both houses of Congress -- the Democrats have not measured up to this responsibility.
.
One wonders if this springs from political cowardice or if the Democrats and the Republicans answer to the same masters. In either event, we cannot afford this treacherous behavior if the real America is to be anything more than a historical item that died in the early 21st Century.
.
What must be done now falls to the awareness, the decency and the action of the electorate. It is time for the people to save America or to witness its funeral.
The truth was just as obvious then as it is now to anyone with the brain of an gnat and the integrity of a Mafioso, despite the lies of Bush, Cheney, Rice, Powell, et al., AND McClellan. Anyone who claims McClellan's bullshit as a revelation has been seriously out to lunch, in another orbit for the past seven years, or perhaps afflicted with terminal colitis Republicanis.
.
And McClellan has still not come clean, now claiming that Bush did bad stuff by mistake while his motives were to spread democracy and freedom, sounding sort of like: "Yes, Virginia, there really is a Santa Bush!"
.
All the characters in this scenario were snakes then and are snakes today, with the exception of McClellan, who despite his pathetic image then and now, has always and does now nakedly indulge in flagrant self-interest. He never measured up to the snake-hood of his masters, and remains the same worm he always was.
.
Another obvious case for the prosecution.
.
But perhaps the question, rather than: "Who do you believe?" should be: "What will now happen in light of this yet another historic atrocity?"
.
Here's what I'm guessing -- The Democrats (who already enjoy a majority of both houses of Congress) will make one or two grave but harmless public statements, cackle privately among themselves, unite behind their Madam Speaker that any action "is off the table" as it is not consistent with her partisan strategy for future voter support, and the issue will rot and wither away in the Democrat garbage can of integrity, courage and duty denied.
.
And decent folks (i.e. WE) will compose a new slogan, protest next week at the local courthouse, generally whine to each other -- and then vote Democrat in November.
.
In summary, Bushco will with impunity continue to solidify the FSA (Fascist State of America) until his solemn albeit smirking departure in January to concentrate on his "legacy," there will be a Democrat president , the congressional Democrats will have increased their numbers by virtue of our votes in November, the "war on Muslim extremism and international terror" will continue, therefore "necessitating" that our former Constitution remain an artifact of the world's once oldest democracy, and -- after a short time out for a partisan victory celebration -- decent folks will paint up some new signs and re-start the whining machine.
.
Something actually is rebelling, however: my stomach. Must run off now for the Pepto Bismal...........Rafe Pilgrim
Thomas Frank has given us a most perceptive exposition on the triumph and the deserts of greed, venality, immorality and stupidity of -- let's face it -- Republicans who have misused government and abused the citizens, starting with the elevation of a B-movie actor (Remember "Bedtime for Bonzo"?) to the position of the most powerful person in the world in 1980.
.
But: So what? Who elected Reagan? (Hint, hint: perhaps the People?). And who elected Tom Delay, Newt Gingrich, et al? And, most grievously, Bushido Banzai himself, twice -- or at best, stood by and allowed the elections to be stolen in Florida (2000) and Ohio (2004) and further abided the court decisions that "legitimated" them. Same folks, i.e. the People.
.
But wait: Was it not a Democrat-majority Senate that initially gifted Bush his war powers? And have not the majority of Democrats given him every dollar for his slaughterous war-of-lies since? And is it not a renewed Democrat majority selected in 2006 to end the disgrace who have still given him the wherewithal for his treachery, the same Democrat majority of both houses that refuse to impeach the worst and most criminal president in the history of our past republic? And will not the People elect now a Democrat president and more Democrat congressmen in November?
.
Are you getting the drift? Consider a popular definition of Stupidity: i.e.: Doing the same thing while expecting a different result.
.
Really and truly wanting to be hopeful, I can but in despair conclude that the citizens are interested in things other than decent and capable governance, and that even the so-called Peace Movement cannot bring themselves to disrupt their convenience or to suffer the discomfort or to take the risks necessary to change things.
.
Welcome to the FSA (Fascist State of America)! Most reverently: For God’s sake, finally change it or swallow it!
