Double-edged sword
[Read the article: Karl Rove to resign]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]When I first read this, I thought "YAAY"!
Then reality hit. I think it is telling that he says the "fatally flawed Clinton" will go on to win the democratic nomination. Remember that big part of the 2004 election involved not just pushing Bush but also trying to influence the primaries so that the most vulnerable democrat got the nomination. I believe that Rove is going to be working quietly in the background to make sure Clinton gets the nomination because they know Clinton is inherently unelectable. She is too polarizing AND she is a woman. No way are the redneck states going to allow a woman in the white house -- especially Bill Clinton's woman (yes, possessive tense is intentional because down here, women are still their men's property).
Besides, as long as you have Cheney, Rice, Gonzales, Kennedy, Roberts, Scalia, Clarence Thomas et al, you still have enough fascists in positions of authority to continue to strip away what few remaining civil liberties we have left (which, I believe at this point is pretty much just "Life" -- the "Liberty and Pursuit of Happiness" thing was taken away long ago. And even "Life" doesn't apply if you are an intellectually and financially challenged person from Texas).
While I would love to feel good about this, I know that Rove will pop back as the political "whack-a-turd" that he is.

If ever I felt powerless it is now
[Read the article: "The war as we saw it"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I feel a pit in my stomach reading this editorial which I'm sure the writers must have worked on and agonized over for quite some time before and after its publication.
It saddens me that these people who have such an accurate grasp of the situation are now no longer with us. To know that while their families were once feeling so much pride for their contributions now must be feeling so much sorrow and probably anger and the senseless nature of their death makes me wish there was something more I could do than just write a letter to the editor.
We have so many people in this country that must feel the same way but we are seemingly powerless to change the situation and prevent any more of these senseless deaths. We are told every vote counts so we voted out Republicans and brought in a Democratic majority only to have them roll over faster than a dog looking for a belly rub from any stranger who walks by.
At this point, I just don't know what to do any more and it sickens me. I have written my senators only to be answered with platitudes about "how hard it is to be president" and how none of us can know the great "burden" that Bush and our other "leaders" must bear.
Guess I'll go back to knitting my "prayer shawls" for the families of dead soldiers... as lame as that sounds. Good thing I have a lot of yarn. Looks like I'm going to need it for many years to come.
To any military families who may read this, please know I care and if you have any ideas for what we can do to help, please let us know. You shouldn't have to be going through this and will pray that you have a happier reunion with your loved ones than the families of the authors of this article.

So is Hilary "too hormonal"?
[Read the article: White House: Obama too "intellectually lazy" to work here]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Talk about coming close (if not actually crossing) the racist stereotype for a black person -- "they're too lazy?"
Not a big fan of Al Sharpton but someone needs to call "W" on that one. That is really offensive!
