Duopoly

As a peasant, trying to make sense of the politically schizophrenic mess we find ourself in, I too was taken back by Olbermann's stunning capitulation.

Clearly, the neocons, globalist, (yes that is the Clintons also if you ask me) whatever you want to call them are pulling the strings and getting whatever they want/need by playing good cop / bad cop with our political system. There is no better example than FISA, except, maybe, Iraq. They (OZ?) sit at the fulcrum of a devious but highly effective system that keeps the people thinking we have some say.

In his defense, Olbermann could very well believe that giving the republicans everything they want may lesson their hand in the event of another terrorist attack before the elections.

See, that is what scares me more than anything (including terrorists). In the event of a terrorist attack, we give the admin MORE POWER? A terrorist attack HELPS them? WTF kind of bizarro world have we found ourself? If you are them that is just great.

I'm all for a law that would kick those who are supposed to protect us to the curb if they fail. To our detriment, something we neglected to do after 9/11.

Just one wish

K. Olbermann and G. Greenwald, to me, are 2 of the most important people in the media today (or outside for that matter). They've become 'the voice of the people' while everyone else is droning on about terrorists and Brittany.

"the fact that Bush, on his way out, can pardon telecoms from criminal but not civil liability."

That simple fact is like an iron skillet to the side of the head. Emotionally, I'm always with Keith but on this one, I have to say, stick to principle. Hold their feet to the fire. Don't get caught up in the tyrannical duopoly that has this country by the throat.

I've often wondered by Glenn has not been on Keith's show. If I had one wish, it would be that they get together and fight. Disagreeing is ok ! But, please, I humbly ask that you show some solidarity if for no other reason than your country needs you.

Civil liberties ... check.

I'm looking forward to KO's special comment and hope/expect he has done his homework.

Obama's position should not be a surprise. Globalists are driving this bus and you can't get onboard, otherwise. He would not be where he is if he did not embrace expansionism - plus the requisite assault on civil liberties.

His overt pandering to AIPAC following his nomination, plus his rhetoric regarding 'The Homeland' is quite troubling - and illustrative.

Since the early 80's or before they've had their eyes on the prize, the ME, for oil and power and supremacy. Just ask his foreign policy pal, Zbigniew Brzezinski.

Right now, it is Obama's role as 'good cop' to do an end around the will of the American people, putting the final nails into the coffin of the republic.

Iran is on deck. I honestly hope they are as smart as they think.

only tactical differences

"it's impossible to understand why the Obama campaign thinks it's good politics to change core positions so flagrantly and rapidly, thus engendering damaging (though accurate) Editorials of this kind from the otherwise very sympathetic NYT Editorial Page."

Impossible?. Consider they both hold the main policy positions on the ME. Expansionism and curtailed domestic civil liberties. I know, that is hard with Obama but his actions speak loudly. His position effectively fractures dissent for the war and civil liberties.

Why else would he come out so hard and heavy on these things, now, when he is holding the winning hand, while Mccain the the crew shoot themselves in the foot every other day?

"They're practically one and the same, and its members protect their own. It isn't entirely new, of course, as the Iran-Contra situation was quite similar."

This train went off tracks then and is still being driven by the Rumsfelds, Cheney, Wolfowitzes, Libbys, Perles, etc. Is Obama, Clinton 1,2 and Feinstein and the rest of the DC Dem crew with them? On most things. They are just to 'good cops', playing their valuable role.

Who was the republican who said ...

..if you need a friend in DC get a democrat.

Monolithic or not these people (in DC and those running them) are hell bent on destroying the constitution. To the wise, the dem vs pug thing is dead - even dangerous.

If history is written objective observers, Pelosi and company will be seen as complicit enablers and in my eyes, damn near as bad as the Cheney, Bush cabal.

"The illusion of freedom [in America] will continue as long as it's profitable

to continue the illusion. At the point where the illusion becomes too

expensive to maintain, they will just take down the scenery, they will pull

back the curtains, they will move the tables and chairs out of the way and you

will see the brick wall at the back of the theater."

More incompetence theory ?

"This is probably the single most overlooked, under-appreciated fact in media criticism. Of course, they are hired and then promoted for exactly that reason -- their empty-headedness is an important asset. " GG

That may be true but forgive me for being a little weary of the 'incompetence theory' while the incompetents meet every damned objective.

"Who owns the media" is a better place to start when trying to decipher the truth from a storm of lies, distortions and vapidity that has become the MSM.

That said, regular americans have few friends pointing out and dissecting the fact the MSM is used by the establishment to slice and dice the electorate and I'm just damned happy to have GG setting the record straight .
