How depressing. Starting sometime in 2001, how many millions of times has someone had to write an article, essay, blog post, or whatever and was absolutely compelled to include the phrase "Saddam was a bad man but ..." ?

It is like the right wing is an over-muscled (and therefore consequential) low-function (and therefore hard to reason with) autistic kid that has to hear soothing words over and over to keep him from screaming and pummeling anything within reach. Any statement they encounter that doesn't conform to their cherished preconceptions (call it "world-view") will trigger this kind of response.

So Glenn once again has to rebut the idea that he is Taliban-loving and Saddam-loving because he doesn't want his country to act worse than either. Predictable but depressing.

Can someone tell me what happened in the session after the clip ended? It seems that Sensenbrenner (sp?) tried to jump in several times and was denied, but did he get time afterward and what did he say?

I suspect that the "pro-torture" numerics in the polls are the result of the fact that most of the people polled who support it in some way have never really confronted it. To them, it only happens to brown people far away that deserve it anyway and even if they don't, it happens whether we do it or not.

To me it is about the same as people who eat meat (as I do) who could not care less how the food animals are treated while they are alive. It happens out of sight, out of mind, and the only result you see is the the tasty looking result under cellophane at the supermarket. (Enhanced of course by carbon monoxide and special lighting.)

This war will only be won once you rub their faces in it. To do that, you have to release the photos and get the video cams in where they are currently not allowed. Once you do these poll results will change like you wouldn't believe.
