The Emmy Nominations: No BATTLESTAR GALATICA??!!!

The biggest insult and omission, in my not-so-humble opinion, is the total disregard for BATTLESTAR GALATICA.

BSG has continued, through its third season, to engage, stimulate and thrill the viewer's mind and heart. Actors Olmos and McDonnell lead a cast of splendid talent through a story that reflects our society's travails with war, terrorism, personal responsibilites and, yes, personal (very personal!) affairs of the heart.

I am so tired of the Emmy's consistent ignorance of the use of fantasy and science fiction to present commentaries on the "human condition" while engaging viewers in the lives and stories of characters as vital and as interesting as anything ever presented on television.

Such shows as BATTLESTAR GALATICA (and BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, another outstanding "genre" example) seem to be above the understanding of the the "great unwashed masses," who prefer to be coddled and soothed and titillated into tongue-hanging, saliva-dripping comas on their sofas while watching crap like DEAL OR NO DEAL or ARE YOU SMARTER THAN A FIFTH-GRADER...

Sadly, the Emmys continue to mirror this state.

You Can't Handle The Truth!

Obama's biggest problem is that he treats the American public like intelligent grown-ups, when the truth is that they are scared little children looking for Daddy and Mommy to tell them there are no boogeymen.

Obama's statement is simple truth, and most of this country can't handle the truth. Those of us who are demonized as "intelligentsia and "elitist." (Which is a whole 'nother lie swallowed by the great, unwashed masses, but that's a letter for another day.)

I used to admire and like McCain, but ever since he has embraced the same scumbags who spread lies about him during the 2000 campaign (way before this election cycle), I have lost all respect for him. He is as much a "Judas" as Bill Richardson.

The McCain camp is running scared, which is why they are pulling out every dirty trick they can, without actually calling Obama a...oy, I can't even type that word, but you know what that word is.

And, unfortunately, it seems to be working.

This country is fucked.

Jesus, I hope not.

Great piece, Joan, and I totally agree with you!

It's his black skin, stupid!

I read the article, and all I can say is:

KUDOS to John Heilemann of NEW YORK MAGAZINE for finally saying what everyone knows and no one else has had the guts to say!!!!!

I have been so frustrated by the lack of courage of everyone from THE VIEW to CNN and even the bigots at FOX NEWS has shown in saying out loud the reason Obabma continues to struggle in this presdential election, even though EVERY SINGLE RESPECTED AND INTELLIGENT POLITICAL PUNDIT--obviously not the propagandists of Fox News--AGREES HE SHOULD LEADING BY IN DOUBLE DIGITS AFTER THE LAST DISASTROUS 8 YEARS OF BUSH AND HIS ADMINISTRATION.

This country is on a downward spiral, and the speed at which we are whirling down into hell is only exponentially increasing with each passing day. Unless we stand up and face the mirror like adults, the American dream is over.

I miss WIDE WORLD OF SPORTS and Jim McKay

You said it, Gary! NBC is all about the dollars and ratings, and not about the athletes or the competition.

And I am SO sick of the jingoism!!!!

This is the first time I pretty much ignored the Olympics, and I'm 54 years old. I tuned in at the beginning, hoping NBC had learned its lesson from the last time, when viewers and journalists bemoaned NBC's coverage...but no such luck.

And enough of Michael Phelps!!!!! He's an amazing athlete, but there are others.

It just really, forgive the language, SUCKED.

Um...Excuse me?????!

Ms. Boris, I must tell you that I STRONGLY object to your categorizing of nursing as a "pink" job.

Registered nurses are PROFESSIONALS!

We are NOT "pink ladies."

Leonard "Bones" McCoy, M.D.

Someone early on posted that he (or she?) missed Bones. I think he saw the wrong movie.

Honestly, how could you miss him?
