Beth...

I have raised a girl (now a woman), and it's hard work.

But I think you're already doing the one thing that (in my book) is most important. You take responsibility for your own feelings, rather than projecting them onto your daughter. And if you can help her learn to do the same, she will likely be successful in whatever she wants to do. That doesn't mean, though, that there won't be problems along the way. [sigh...]

If GWB's parents had only helped him understand his own emotions (e.g., after his younger sister died), the world might not be in such a pickle now. Never misunderestimate the importance and the power of parental figures.

Thank YOU, Ames!!

We look forward to it!

LWM... I prefer this matrix for comparing the candidates, even though it doesn't have a test for me. Actually, my candidate preference(s) might be enough of a test.

http://ontheissues.org/default.htm

If you arrow all the way down to the bottom of the page after clicking on a candidate, you can see where they fall on the matrix. It completely explains why Dodd was my first choice.

Amen, Cocktailhag!

Remember, Bush said Scalia was one of his model Justices. And people still voted for Nader.

I had so many arguments/discussions about what should have been the bottom line for anyone concerned about our civil rights, and still so many chose to echo Nader: that there was no difference between the two parties, or, unbelievable between the two parties' candidates!

borrowing a page from Dirigo...

Glenn, you had a great opportunity to inject a bit of Shakespeare into your post about the media RightWing and the Media being in bed together.

Instead of: That's the two-headed beast that was single-handedly responsible for milking the sex scandals into Bill Clinton's impeachment against the wishes of most of the country

...you might have written: That's the the beast with two backs that was single-handedly responsible for milking the sex scandals into Bill Clinton's impeachment against the wishes of most of the country

But then maybe that would have been too crude, even if true...

bebop-o...

What WT said.

But just for a little extra help, I put in a special prayer request for you earlier today. I waited until today to take advantage of the New Moon. The request lasts for a month. Keep us informed. I'll Re-New the Next Moon, if needed.

Yes, indeedy!

Won't it be fun

If Hillary wins tonight just for the yucks of knowing that reports of her "implosion" were premature.

-- Paul Dirks

I'd still like to see Edwards excel, but Hillary's doing well will suffice for now.

Bebop-o...

Count me as another vote for trashing the expired antibiotics, and if Pedinska were here, I'm sure she'd say the same thing. You have to use them all up when they are first prescribed for you. I work with people who research the effects of antibiotic use on public health, so I know what I'm talking about, too. ;~)

I understand that silver is supposed to have a lot of curative effects, especially for burns and infections. If for some reason, you can't see a doctor, maybe you could find some kind of salve or bandages that include silver... if not, I'm willing to do a little shopping.

However, I'd rather that both LWM and ondelette weighed in on this suggestion before you follow it.

And, ideally, you should still see a doctor.

WT & LWM...

One advantage of Salon's requiring us to sign in with a handle is that our screen names are all unique. Iow, we cannot realistically pose as one another, except by posting anonymously, which makes the whole thing suspicious anyway.

Bebop-o...

Now bystander is scaring me. Apparently, I wasn't reading your posts closely enough today. Definitely see a doctor. Please.

I'm pretty sure, WT

...that Thrasher does have a sense of humor... one that enjoys getting a rise out of other posters. Self-parody, though? I haven't seen any evidence of that, since it would probably mean looking into the camera or breaking the 4th wall at some point, and in all of the threads where I've read him, I've never seen that happen.

We could use some more humor on these threads, though. Lately, they've been pretty shrill. [Can't believe I'm saying that.] And then there was the Great Cheese Escapade, which reminded me of a scene in one of Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next novels, where cheese rolling was an actual sporting event. But that was in the UK, and Fforde is Welsh, so it really has no bearing here, except that we did have a visitor from the UK during that episode... okay, I'll stop now.

Glenn, thank you for sharing that email with all of us. We know how important Bebop-o is, as evidenced by the piling on whenever a newbie dares criticize. However, it's gratifying to know that lurkers appreciate him, too.

I'm convinced there is a literary work hiding in his archives. Probably a play, rather than a novel... because then there could be a Greek chorus. And masks.

on Snippets...

what an illustrative word snippets is in this context:

snippet

(snĭp'ĭt) pronunciation

n.

1. A bit, scrap, or morsel: “sparkling black bass … strewn with snippets of coriander and basil” (Gael Greene).

2. Informal. A small or mischievous person. [perhaps a journalist w/ an agenda?] [emphasis mine]

What is so great about tonight's story...

...no matter which candidate you prefer, and no matter which party... is that the M$M is having to wipe a lot of egg from their faces, and recognize that the only things that really count are THE VOTE TOTALS, which cannot be counted until real people actually vote.

Perhaps they will finally have to quit writing their stories in advance... and during this election cycle, too.

Tuesday, January 8, 2008 07:25 PM

I saw that same clip, too, sysprog...

It is so typical of Fox that they would deny Ron Paul a place in the debate, despite his meeting their objective standards...

...while simultaneously condemning Obama for freezing them out because they smeared him with out-and-out lies several times too many.

A little schadenfreude crept into my heart while watching Hannity and Co. scoot away from the peasants sans torches.
