Morgan is a non-scientist writing about matters that concern scientists, and she is simultaneously questioning the "hunter" metaphor/hypothesis/theory.
Her original book was intended to pave the way for a more academic one by Alistair Hardy, who originated the idea of an aquatic phase in our evolutionary development, but he never published it.
I tried to read some of the link you provided, but found it aesthetically unreadable to begin with... and he seemed to take her points much further than she intended them, in order to refute them. He kept referring to her straw men, but I wondered if he was adding straw to the aquatic ape.
I would love to hear an opinion on her first book (The Descent of Woman) by an open-minded man. Most of the critiques of her work appear to be by those with their own agendas. If you'll send me the rest of your address, I'll buy and send you a copy, i.e., if you're interested enough to check it out. I haven't read her latest books, and should probably read them myself.
I just saw your response re: aquaticape.org on the other thread and replied there.
...for a general election between two candidates, neither of whom the beltway press can stand.
Wouldn't that be a lot of fun?
More popcorn, please.
If one really thinks about it, the page that hosts Maureen Dowd, Tom Friedman and David Brooks is a prefectly appropriate place for Bill Kristol to be.
And I left a comment somewhere (the earlier thread on Kristol, I think) that he would be an even bigger and better target for Glenn at the Times. [rubs hands together...]
I also mentioned a bit of deja vu... the same feeling I had when I heard that Tom DeLay had claimed "I am the Federal Government," and I knew that he had over-reached, and it was just a matter of time... I had that same feeling about this story, and having read Glenn's post, it's only stronger now. Apparently (reading between the lines?), Rosenthal must have felt badly for Kristol when he lost his gig at Time, and offered him a prime slot at the Times as a consolation prize. (Shades of Ashcroft!) And now we learn that he (i.e., Rosenthal) also broke the rules at the Times in making this offer.
Yep, Kristol's days are numbered, too. He might last out his contract year, but I won't be surprised if he doesn't. I would be very surprised, though, if he gets renewed.

Oh, and what's with the "we've still got Friedman, Dowd," et al? As if they're supposed to be liberals? I had an epiphany the other day... the reason that some folks continue to think Dowd is a liberal is because she writes satire, and everyone knows that satire-writing-ability is a recessive gene in conservatives. Okay, so she's an outlier in that regard. But that's all. Otherwise, she's a closet Republican. It's obvious if you merely pay attention to her obsessions with "Mommy" and "Daddy" and the hyper- or lack of- masculinity of the candidates.
...but someone earlier said he and his wife would no longer be shopping at Bloomingdale's, after noting the 4 or 5 pages of ads for Bloomie's.
Now, that might have an effect. It worked for a little while re: Imus.
I agree with you about Obama. He only claims to be a change agent. He's just one more Leo who wants to run everything.
Interestingly, last night the guy from the Rothenberg (sp?) Report was on PBS w/ Lehrer, and noted that the data on the Democrats showed a much closer race between Obama and Clinton. It was really that adding in the independents and the Republicans who chose to caucus as Democrats that gave him the larger lead.
I really had hoped that Edwards would do better, though... [sigh] Or, even more... Dodd.
Re: "Sweep"
It is so far from over for either party...
I didn't know whether to laugh or cry when I read your comment, but I really do appreciate your keeping us updated with an on-site perspective.
I can only assume that people have learned nothing over the last seven years.
That's exactly how I felt last night... and even in the days leading up to this.
Once again, a candidate that the press likes is getting a free pass, and we'll all have to suffer the consequences, if there is no accountability on the horizon.
The good news from my perspective is that it really is still a wide-open race.
Considering the expectations for Hillary a year ago, she actually performed better than expected, not worse. And considering that Edwards got almost no substantive coverage, but just enough of superficial negatives... he still held his own, despite being wildly out-spent. There is still some hope.

They're planning to provide similar coverage for next Tuesday in New Hampshire.
I received the link in an email, and thought that anyone else like myself (who lives w/out cable) might appreciate it, too. Haven't watched any of the segments yet, but they include some folks I like.
I need to eat some breakfast!
I meant to address that previous comment to LWM, rather than to Kitt. Sorry for the confusion...
I did catch myself, but too late. Probably, I was feeling we were all on the same wave-length.
In the meantime, in order to forestall any more such mistakes, I have made myself a bowl of oatmeal with an egg and some pumpkin pie filling baked in it. Otherwise, I would be behind when it becomes time for lunch. ;~)
