I've been saying this since 11/04. My guess...and you heard it here first...is that Bush will pick Rick Santorum. He is destined to lose his re-election bid. It would save face, set up a successor, and satisfy the (not-so-)religious right.
Kaufman asks if our "views on these two questions have changed since Monday." No they haven't. Bonds *HAD* an Hall of Fame Career, and he is a scoundral. He blew his career by using ILLEGAL performance-enhancing drugs. Yes...he should be locked out of the hall. Yes...his name should be scrubbed from the record books. Yes...SF should kick is ass out the door. And, yes, he should be banned for life from baseball. If you're going to play the moral card against Pete Rose, why wouldn't you do the same to Bonds?
I wonder if anyone has a video copy of GWB singing the anthem in Spanish back in 2000. I'd like to see the folks at "Faux" news spin that one.
Please note that James Byrd was brutally murdered in 1998, and not 1988, as stated in your article. Please make this correction. Thank you.
This kind of crap just makes me sick. If it was Al Franken (or any other Progressive), MSM would be on it like flies on sh*t (analogy intended). I think it's time we fight back, and pressure the FBI to investigate, and throw that bitch behind bars where she belongs.
House Speaker Dennis Hastert said Republicans would "continue to fight" because the institution of marriage is "under attack by activist judges across the nation."
Funny, earlier this year the California legislature passed a law to make same-sex marriage legal in that state. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger vetoed the bill, saying such an issue should be decided by the courts. Aren't the courts presided by so-called activist judges?
I'm so confused.
While we're whining about the BCS, can we whine about Faux Sports, too? Let me try to get my hands around this...Faux Sports, which televised a total of ZERO college football games this year, is broadcasting the entire BSC??!!??? Is anyone (besides me) just slightly pissed about this?
Thanks for the great on-line poll. I agree with the one post that stated Dylan was the greatest...period.
Thank you, King, for mentioning MLBs arcane blackout rules that dominate Extra Innings. A few years ago I switched from cable to DirecTV. As a life-long baseball fan, I was thrilled that I could subscribe to Extra Innings. Unfortunately, I was totally unaware of the black out rules. After a couple of weeks of total frustration, I gave up. There were consistently more black out games than broadcast games. (Full disclosure: I live on the East Coast). It seemed as if the only games I could get were West Coast games at 11:00 p.m...as long as there were no East Coast teams involved. In my most humble opinion, my money would have been better spent if I had just flushed it down the toilet.
Warning # 2: If you are a DirecTV customer and subscribe to Extra Innings, they will automatically sign you up for the package the following years. You must call them before the season starts to cancel it. (It's my understanding that this is their policy for all sports subscription packages). Cancelling the package was worse than trying to cancel AOL!
or vomit all over Putin.
...and a filmed version of Sweeney Todd is one of them. Not only is Sweeney Todd my favorite Sondheim show, it is my favorite show, period. (West Side Story runs a close second). The first time I saw a preview for this, I cringed. Now that they're showing commercials for it on a regular basis, it just makes me want to cry. As much as I love Johnny Depp (since "Cry Baby"), he just doesn't have the musical cojones to pull this off. And Helena Bonham Carter is no Angela Landsbury, either. This is one of those rare exceptions where musical talents must trump acting talent and/or box office draw. Too bad Tim Burton didn't get that memo. If you've never seen this production, and even if you have, do yourself a tremendous favor and find a copy of the production starring George Hearn and Angela Landsbury. And when a stage production comes to your area, go see it.
Note to hughman: You need to rent the DVD and see the show again. Pirelli is the key to the whole show. He is the one who gives Mrs. Lovett the idea to change her recipe. Also, it is through him that Sweeney Todd and Mrs. Lovett meet Toby.
Note to Salon: No offense to Ms. Zacherek, but please have someone else, preferably one who has a true appreciation of Sondheim, review this movie. She hated this movie, but for all of the wrong reasons!
"If an inadvertent accounting problem constituted a "scandal" for Franken, should McCain be held to a different standard?"
This has been the Republican mantra. "Do as I say, not as I do." When Eliot Spitzter was caught in a sex scandal, the right wing nuts kicked and screamed until he resigned. However, I don't see any kicking and screaming when the names Craig or Vitter are mentioned. Double standard? You betcha!!!
John Edwards was wrong, wrong, wrong in 2004 and he would be even more wrong, wrong, wrong in 2008. Obama can, and must, do better than that. Kathleen Sebelius or Wesley Clark should be seriously considered.
