Voter ID
[Read the article: The GOP wants to see your I.D.]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I am a died-in-the-wool progressive but even if claims about the motives Republicans have for requiring an ID to vote are true, it seems to me this idea might have some merit regardless of partisan agendas.
Surely I'm not the only one who, at every voting opportunity wonders: "So, all I have to do is tell you who I am and sign the register and I can vote?" That has seemed odd to me since I first started voting thirty years ago.
I am not smart enough to know all the answers - how can we be sure the most disenfranchised among us are fairly represented - but looking objectively at the process one can only conclude that requiring some type of valid ID, if such a thing exists, will make the voting process more fair, not less.

Walsh Appearance on "ScarCo"
[Read the article: Bozell filter]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Couldn't agree more with our "Fearless Leader" drawing the parallels between Muslim and Christian extremists - exactly.
Though I understand her being outnumbered 2-1 in the pile-on that ensued, I wish she could have been a little less familiar- "C'mon, you guys." It's one thing to keep the debate on a personable level, but to this viewer that colloquialism served to weaken her position.

Ouch!
[Read the article: My ex-con neighbor owes me money]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Cary-
You are a genius and have a profound insight into human nature which is why I read your advice column.
I've never thought your column was very far off the mark until I read the advice you gave to the person who was taken advantage of by the ex-con.
Not for nothing but that type of personality views the tack you suggest as a sign of weakness. Though I agree in principle with the spirit of reconciliation you suggest, it is he that should be making that offer! Of course, he has absolutely no intention of doing so and will probably call again when his car breaks down -- really!
I'm afraid that your observation about not getting paid is dead-on but the notion that this person is on the same page as most of us and will therefore respond as we might is - can I really say this to you? - hopelessly naive.
Come back to us, Cary!

Why blame Obama?
[Read the article: Why Hillary Clinton should be winning]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Just a quick question regarding your very insightful comments about the fiasco that the Democratic nominating process has engendered: why blame Obama? Like any good politician, or most regular people in similar circumstances, he is doing his best to prevail in this admittedly flawed run-up to the Democratic Convention. I must believe that if the tables were turned, Clinton would do exactly the same thing! Though the last paragraph of your piece notes this, the bulk of your article seems to fault Obama for taking advantage of the system and the misplaced momentum it's provided him, rather than the party officials who concocted it. Honestly, either candidate would be foolish, and not much of a politician, if they were to behave otherwise. FYI, I support both candidates equally.

No Dis to Michelle
[Read the article: The Obamas on "60 Minutes"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Rebecca-
I watched the wonderful interview the Obamas gave 60 minutes and I believe that when Barack said "Excuse me" to Michelle just before he discussed the college sports idea, it was only because they had been holding hands and he started to gesture with that hand, not because he was implying she would have no interest....
